How big could a jail building be to stop crime in Britain?
Q. The British government is planning to build a super-large jail house in the UK to accommodate 100s of thousands of prisoners. The question is how does that prevent, stop or deter crime? Waste of time and tax payers money, I believe. Moreso, it turns the UK to the jail house of Europe, but will curb no crime as usual. There better ways to spend that kind of money, especially on programs that prevent crime rather than attempting a knee-jerk immediate cure.

A. Look, we all go to school and learn what is right and wrong, If we listen and learn we don't have to go to Jail. Some people don't and off they go to Jail. Parents need to grow up and spend time with their kids teaching them right from wrong. If your child commits a crime before they are 13 then it's the parent that should do the time. There is the route of the problem, one generation of that and the new Jail will be redeveloped into an adventure play ground The country would not have to spend this money if the young were given the right attention. Learning is the key to all. My child is getting plenty of attention and I give my time to her so she can learn right and wrong, if everyone did this we would not need so many jails. The odd… [cont.]

Whats the difference between an iphone and an jail broken one?
Q. I hear that term "jail broken" all the time when talking to friends but i never understood what it meant. I want to say that if you buy a jail broken iphone you don't have to pay for the data usage plan. Is that true? What exactly does it mean jail broken and what is its functions? Thanks.

A. jailbroken lets ur iphone use thrid party apps and settings not apporved by apple for whatever reason ie (too many crashes, unstable, performance etccc.) but this also disables restrictions and permission ie, background image on main home screen. BUT jailbreaking has its cons, performance and ram use is abused dramatically, however the pros outnumber the cons. ppl r very skeptical to jailbreak cuz it "mess" up ur phone, btw please define mess up lol, if u do it properly and right software, (modmyi.com) then there will be no problems. i jailbroke and wouldnt go back, iphone is awesome with tons of apps (cracked btw lol) icons, sounds etc. sooo many mods.

How often do you go to jail after rolling 3 doubles in monopoly?
Q. In Monopoly, with two dice you get to go again after you roll doubles but if you get three sets of doubles in the same turn, you go directly to jail. What is the probability that you will go to jail on a specific turn? (up to three rolls of the dice)
Asked by Quevvy - Sun Nov 16 12:40:51 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There's a 1/6 probability that you will roll a double on one throw, so 3 throws is (1/6)^3, which is 1/216.

What should a mother do if the father of her child is in jail for not paying child support?
Q. What should a mother do if the father of her child is in jail for not paying child support? He says that he rather spend the rest of his live in jail for not paying child support. Because he is well behaved in jail at least according to the jail staff, he gets many privileges like free cable TV and medical insurance. He never wanted to be a father. It cost the state more money to keep him in jail for one weak, than the amount he would have to pay in child support.

What are the visiting hours for people in jail?
Q. I have a friend that is in jail in Arkansas & I was thinking about going to visit him. I need to know how old you have to be in order to visit people in jail. Or if you have to have an adult with you if you are under this age & of course when the visiting hours are.
Asked by lemonhead1293 - Sat May 23 12:32:16 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Being that all institutions have different IOP's on visitation, it's impossible to say without knowing the name of the institution. Is it a local jail or state prison? State prison's require things such as birth certificates, ID's, notarized guardianship papers, notarized letters from parent allowing their child to visit an offender with someone other than said parent and letter must be approved by warden, etc. Usually local jails are considerably more lenient.

Pros: Backgrounds- You Can Not Get Backgrounds On An iPod Touch But Can Get It If It Is Jailbroken With The App Called Winter Board Free Apps- Usually Paid For Apps Are Now Free (Well Most Of Them) Customizable- Fun And Neat Things Can Be Done Like Putting Custom Text On Your Unlock Slider Much More... Cons: Bricked: You Don't Have A Very Good Chance Of This But Your iPod May Become Bricked (Doesnt Work Anymore) unless You Know What To Do But Even Then Doesnt Always Work! Bad Battery Life- Its Battery Life Drains Fast!

How long does it take to get booked into jail?
Q. Can someone tell me how long it takes to get booked into jail in California?? Does it depend on the reason he/she is in jail? Any help will be appreciated. And also when do they get there phone call? Is there a way to call the jail to give them my number so he can have it since he doesnt know it by heart?
Asked by Shelby - Fri Mar 13 01:22:06 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The biggest single factor in booking times is the size of the jail and where it is located. If you are in a big city and the police are arresting people often, it can take 8 to 12 hours. If the jail is in a small town with few police officers, it could be right away. Other things that slow down bookings are intoxication and cooperation of the person arrested, they will get put in holding until they sober up and become cooperative. Every jail has different procedures when is comes to phone use. Most will not take a messages for inmates.

What are the differences between state prison and county jail?
Q. I'm not talking about the fact that you go to jail for short sentences and awaiting trial and prison for longer sentences. Want to know if there is much difference for inmates between the 2. All I really know is about county jail where I did 6 months that seemed to last forever. I've not been in prison but that might happen if things work out bad. Some people in county said state was better as you weren't locked up as much, better programmes, better food, more visits etc. but I think county would be easier as people just want to get through it and get out without causing too much trouble.

A. County jails usually hold people who are awaiting trial, or who have been sentenced to less than 1 year in prison; state prisons hold all persons convicted of offenses which carry more than a year sentence. State prisons usually have better programs, but only because the people serving time there have more time to participate in them.

Why do they release sex offenders from jail knowing they are a high risk to repeat offend?
Q. These less than human beings get psychologically evaluated in jail, and even after all their "therapy" the verdict is they are likely to repeat offend. Why is it that when they are done serving their time they are allowed to be released into the public just to do it again? All the community gets is a warning on the news, or a letter sent home with students from school? Why do we let them out at all?

A. Because there are not enough tax dollars to keep them in clothes, food and cable TV for the rest of their life.

What do you think about a jail making all the male prisoners wear pink shirts and pink underware?
Q. A jail in Arizona did this to rapper DMX."Looks like Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has come up with the cure for DMX's addiction to jail. "The hip-hop star and repeat offender, like all of Arpaio's other inmates in the Maricopa county jail, must wear pink t-shirts, underwear and socks. The girlie wardrobe colors caught DMX by surprise."

A. I don't think that anyone who is in prison should have a say in what they can or can't do inside. There's a reason they're there in the first place. I do know that sometimes there's people in that are innocent, but I don't really care about their wants, because they wronged society in the first place. This just proves that the press is dead. Who cares about pink underwear when there's a inevitable economical crisis going on worldwide? Now, reading about those 30,000 people who will be unemployed when Circuit City closes, that's depressing.

A. A little research before answering questions is always helpful. The maximum penalty I can find for killing a police dog is in Connecticut, where the penalty can be *up to* ten grand and ten years - and that's in a case where the dog is killed by you while it is performing its duties. There may be stiffer penalties out there, but I doubt it, as most states are far less severe. You can find a listing of the penalties in several states by visiting the source link below. This means that you're either blowin' smoke or you or someone you know *thinks* they got a life sentence for killing a police dog. The only way I know of where that could happen would be in a state where (a) the killing of a police dog is a felony (it is not even a felony… [cont.]

What happens during the booking process at a jail?
Q. As I wrote in a previous question, I am a 28 year old male and have to report to jail for a six month sentence. I'm wondering what to expect during booking and processing after I self-report. A friend told me that I'll have to strip, shower and have my hair cut. Is this accurate?
Asked by Scotto - Fri Apr 10 23:50:07 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. not totally accurate. They are gonna make you strip and search you, they will give you something new to wear and shoes, they will probably finger print you again and give you an ID bracelet or card. You are probably gonna sit in a holding cell for a while till they put you in a cell. I'm not sure if they will make you shower, but no they won't cut your hair. Good luck, I hope your 6 months fly by.

What are the pros and cons of increasing jail time for the possession of a gun?
Q. In Canada, the current jail time for possesing a gun is 5 years. What do you think will be the pros and cons of increasing the time from 5 to 10 years? possessing*

A. I am not familiar with Canada's gun laws. But in Australia, they made it illegal to own a gun and gun crime went UP. UP, they had MORE gun crime. I assume you are saying that the mere possession of a gun in Canada will get you 5 years in jail. Good reason to stay away from Canada. In VA, we have a much more reasonable gun law. If you commit a crime and have a gun, or you steal a gun, or commit any kind of gun crime, then the minimum sentence is 5 years. I think the way that works is that if the crime carries a sentence of 5 years and you use a gun, then you get another 5 years for a total of 10 years. After all, the Second Amendment is for law abiding citizens, not criminals.

What do you think of Vick reporting to jail before he is even sentenced?
Q. What is the reasoning behind that? I can't see that being beneficial in any way. Why would the jail even except him if he hasn't even been sentenced? That's very strange.

A. I am guessing the rules apply to all people. You're a prisoner... Do you think you're special. You get paid in the range of 40.00$ dollars a day towards a fine.
