Question about joining Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I started the process of DST, but due to some unfortunate circumstances at home was unable to finish. Will this affect me if I am interested in an alumnae chapter?
Asked by Giggles08 - Wed Jun 18 02:38:00 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That would depend on what those circumstances were and if the process you were engaged in previously was a legal one sanctioned by the Sorority. For now, I cannot think of a reason that you should feel compelled to share this with anyone - if you are interested in an Alumnae chapter, by all means make sure that your credentials are in order, and get to know the members by supporting their programming and events. If/when that chapter decides to have intake, then I would encourage you to keep any information regarding your previous process to yourself and only disclose it to the appropriate persons, and in the appropriate manner (you'll recognize these when the time comes). Good luck!

What suggestions can you give me on joining Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am a part time student now and will be full time in the spring. I am a nursing student with a GPA 2.8. I am currently a member of the Student Nursing Association on campus. I've done some community service outside of campus. I need suggestions on how to increase my chances of receiving an invitation to DST.

A. It really depends on each individual "chapter" does it at each University. Almost all of these organizations have "rushes", where they host events which interested students join up and try to socialize with the members. If they like you, they will ask you to pledge. So go to these rushes when they host it

Q. I am interested in becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. I am interested in joining the alumnae chapter in my hometown. A. Hi there! I agree with everything my soror dablest1 has said already. I just want to add that we are an international organization and that we may have a chapter in the country that you are currently living in. There are chapters in Japan, The UK ,Germany, The Bahamas, Jamaica and many other countries that are active . If there is a chapter where you are ( most of them have websites) try finding out when they are having events so you can get to know the women. If you happen to be in a country where there is no chapter you can try contacting the ladies in the chapter in your hometown to express your interest so that they can know you when you return home to the US. Also if possible you can do community service where you are. This will… [cont.]

Qualifications for joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.?
Q. I had some personal issues my freshman year and because of it my GPA suffered and is currently a 2.2 (now a sophomore). However, I am involved with many organizations on campus, and also have a lot of community service. I am very interested in joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. but feel as though my low GPA will hurt my chances. Can anyone give me advice on this? Also, my high school graduating GPA was very high, as was my involvement (Pres. of various orgs, member of honor society) Can this help me in any way?

A. Hi there, You MUST meet at least the minimal requirements to be considered for membership. If time permits and if you have the finances, let me suggest retaking some of your classes...This will BOOST your gpa tremendously, because it will replace your low gpa. I would not only do this for joining our illustrious organization, but this will be great for you own personal growth. Even if you have excellent community service, we will give you an application if you don't meet the minimal gpa requirements. Good luck to you, and you can contact me if you have any other questions.

Can any type of woman join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated or do you have to be a certain type?
Q. I want to join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated but i;m not what you would consider your average Delta or at least I don't fit the bill for my campuses average Delta. I'm a little afraid to go for it and I want to know do they choose girls who are like them or are they welcoming to others who aspire to join this illustrious group.

A. The ones I know are scholars dedicated to service. Their attire seems to say the same. Average - I don't get that one. Fearless - absolutely! Surely you can answer your own question. Do you fit the bill? You know who you are and what your about. A sorority won't make you what you're not. When you start talking averages, let research guide you. I don't believe anyone can join as you've been advised but I hope you follow your dreams, goals and aspirations.

A. Hi there, If you are interested in joining an alum chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, please understand that my sorors will be requesting a college transcript, and you would need at least a 2.5 gpa. Since your gpa is only a 2.1, I would suggest that you apply for membership AFTER you graduate with your Masters Degree. In the meantime, I would suggest that you continue with your community service, be mindful of your grades in grad school, and attend as many of my sorors events that you can. This is so my sorors will have a chance of getting to know you, and it gives you an opportunity to get to know them. Good luck to you in grad school, and your quest in joining the best sorority in the world!

A. A Delta Sigma Theta Interview, is just like a regular job interview. So my advice is to prepare just like you would if you were applying for a job. Point out your strengths, make sure you know and can answer why you want to become a member of this illustrious organization, and be professional. I feel it's wonderful that you are so involved in community service, keep up the good work! As far as your g.p.a, I wouldn't worry about that. You meet the minimal requirements to apply so I say go for it. What I found when I was in school and we were going through choosing women for intake, I noticed that there were some women that were stronger in some areas than areas. (for example, having a 3.9 g.p.a, but minimal community service, or 2.9 g.p.a… [cont.]

A. No, you can not join Delta, or any other Divine 9 Organization in H.S. The qualifications for joining is either 1. You are attending a four year university that currently has an active chapter on campus 2. You have received a bachelor's degree from a four year university, and you can apply for alumnae membership Of course in addition that, you have to meet the minimal qualifications, and to join as well. Please visit our National Website for more information pertaining to membership.

How can I join Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. if my college doesn't have a chapter?

A. There's always hope if you want to join Delta...You have two options...one, you would have to transfer to a college or university that has a current chapter (I wouldn't recommend this if you are at a school that you love and you are close to graduating soon) and your only other options is to wait until you graduate and join an alum chapter. If Delta is in your heart, then trust me, it's worth waiting for! Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck!

Asked by kiara b - Thu Jan 29 14:33:13 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The only options you have at this point are: Checking to see if there is a city-wide chapter that includes your school. Transferring to another school that has an active chapter (I would NOT recommend this option as you are in school to earn a degree not to join an organization) Wait until after you graduate and join an alumnae chapter. Good luck to you!

If Delta is in your heart, then I say apply as a Junior AND a senior, and if you are not accepted before you graduate from College, then there is always grad chapter. I have had many sorors that have tried three times before becoming members. Good Luck to you!

The RUSH activity is hosted at the discretion of the local chapter. All persons interested in becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta must attend the official RUSH activity. I want to join Delta Sigma Theta.?
Q. I really want to join Delta Sigma Theta but my GPA is an 2.6. I know that the minimum requirements to pledge is an 2.75. I am very active in my community and on campus. I was wondering if that would make up for it, because I would really love to join. If anyone might know who is a part of the organization that could help me. That would be wonderful.
Asked by JANE DOE - Wed Sep 2 10:54:38 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If the local chapter can't answer your question, contact national. Maybe why your GPA is 2.6 is you are spending too much time on community and campus activities. If you were to continue with your present levels of activity and join a sorority, your GPA would drop lower. While it is commendable that you are active in outside activities, your first priority is to get the best grades you can and graduate. Good luck! Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. A. Sororities aren't for everybody and I know members of DST who are christians and who definitely DO NOT worship false idols. I'm glad you've done your research but be careful. Some websites like to put down the greeks of NPHC. Remember that each chapter is different. There are chapters out there doing great works and there are some faulty chapters out there doing some serious hazing and ungodly things. Observe the chapter and the members of the chapter and you'll get your answer. hope i helped

Can I join Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated after graduating from college?
Q. I've wanted to join Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated since I started my undergrad but there wasn't a chapter at my school until senior year. Senior year, I came from New Jersey trying to go to Rush in Connecticut but I was late so I was not able to continue. I am graduating this May and I start the Doctorate Program of Physical therapy in June. However, I still want to join DST. I would like to know who can I call or e-mail to be apart of the mailing-list so I can be apart of community service and other activites. Also, how can I join DST as a grad student?

A. Hi there, First off I want to say congratulations for graduating this may, and I wish you all the best as you start in your PhD program. Now to answer you question, the best way you can join Delta is finding out the nearest grad chapter in the area that you reside. Once you've done that, go to our national website at and check and see if they have their website listed. Another way of accomplishing this goal is simply googling the chapter to see if their website pops up. Most grad chapter has their events, Rush info, community service projects, etc listed. Also you can find out if they have a mailing list that you can join. (I personally know a few grad chapters that offer the mailing list option). Good luck to you, and please let me… [cont.]

Can you join Delta Sigma Theta if you take classes online?
Q. Hello, My question is : Can you pledge Delta Sigma Theta if you take online classes? My situation- I am a 31yr old undergraduate. I'm finally able to finish my undergraduate degree. I have a 3.0 gpa. I work fulltime and take classes online in Maryland. (live on the border of Md/DC.)I've always wanted to be a part of DST, but was not able to continue with my studies. Now that I am, I am very interested being able to join. The only problem is , that I'm not on anyone's campus? I don't see Rush invites, or sorors. How can I overcome this minor problem?

A. That's a good question, and I can't remember the requirements for prospective members that are interested in joining, and are only taking classes online. My guess is, if the classes you are taking has an ACTIVE chapter, and you are not taking online classes far away from campus, like in another state (meaning you reside in the same area, but are only taking online classes due to your work schedule) then I think you do qualify. The only issue is by only taking online classes, it limits you from getting involved with the Deltas on campus. Even if you meet the requirements for becoming a member, you MUST get majority vote from my sorors so in a nutshell, my sorors needs to know who you are! Contact the your greek affairs, or student… [cont.]

I would like to join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. I live in Columbus,Oh and I attend Franklin University! Help?
Q. Franklin does not have Delta Sigma Theta on their campus. What do I do?

A. I would see who the regional director is for your region; I am sure she can direct you in the right direction and who to speak with locally i.e graduate advisors for other schools. You can also see if other universities or colleges in the area will allow you to go thru the membershop intake process with them (some places even have a city wide chapter)...Hope this helps a bit.
