Interested in joining Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I just transferred to my school with over 30 credits, however, I heard that I must be in attendance in my school for a full year. Does anyone know how many hours I must have in prder to pledge Delta Sigma Theta Sorority? I have gotten active on my campus and I have started attending all of theur events. My GPA however is at a 2.96, I plan on getting it higher but is that ok?

A. Hi there, In some cases there can be three different requirements in joining a greek organization. First are the National Requirements, then School Requirements, and last but not least, chapter requirements. For example at some HBCU's you have to have a 3.0 to join an organization even though the national requirement may be 2.5. With that being said, the BEST way to find this information is going to our national website at www.deltasigmatheta.org for the national requirements. I would then contact your student activities office/greek affairs office to see if the school has it's own requirements. (many do not, but some do) And lastly, I the BEST way to find out if the chapter has it's own requirements, the best way to find out what they… [cont.]

However, I am currently outside of the U.S. and I wanted to know what could I do while working outside of the U.S. to help further this endeavor? I plan to move back home in about a year and a half. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

A. Hi there! I agree with everything my soror dablest1 has said already. I just want to add that we are an international organization and that we may have a chapter in the country that you are currently living in. There are chapters in Japan, The UK ,Germany, The Bahamas, Jamaica and many other countries that are active . If there is a chapter where you are ( most of them have websites) try finding out when they are having events so you can get to know the women. If you happen to be in a country where there is no chapter you can try contacting the ladies in the chapter in your hometown to express your interest so that they can know you when you return home to the US. Also if possible you can do community service where you are. This will… [cont.]

How can I join a chapter of Delta Sigma Theta after they come back from a suspension?
Q. I want to join Delta Sigma Theta but the chapter on my campus is suspended until October of 2009 which is also my senior year. Is it possible that I will be able to pledge the same semester that the suspension ends? If so is there something I should do to make sure that it happens? I mean since most of the Deltas will have graduated will I need/be able to take steps to re-establish the chapter?
Asked by cwusf - Thu Nov 6 23:19:28 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To be honest with you, it's possible, but not likely. I say this b/c just because the suspension is up, doesn't mean that they will be having intake the following semester. There is a lot of behind the scene work that has to take place BEFORE they can even consider have MIP. Plus sorors will have to go through extensive training, and have to get permission from the regional director and national headquarters before even holding a RUSH and/or informational. At this point, I would focus on graduating from your school, and in the meantime figure out where the nearest grad chapter where you will be residing after you graduate. Once you find that out, I would reach out to them, see if they have a mailing list you can join or see if they have… [cont.]

Im interested in joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority but I was in an "interest" group years back.?
Q. I would like to join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority alumnae Chapter after I earn my Masters. I meet the service and gpa requirements but I was in an interest group years ago that really didn't do much to begin with but I read somewhere that I wouldn't be able to join DST because of this "interest" group who didn't do anything but try to establish a chapter on campus. Is it possible I can still TRY and join the prestigious sorority? Its been in my heart since I could remember because I truly love what the sorority stands for and want to make a difference in my local community. I wouldn't even consider it a real interest group all we did was try to get the original chapter re-established. We didn't do anything else besides that and only met… [cont.]

A. Hi there, If you are interested in joining an alum chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, please understand that my sorors will be requesting a college transcript, and you would need at least a 2.5 gpa. Since your gpa is only a 2.1, I would suggest that you apply for membership AFTER you graduate with your Masters Degree. In the meantime, I would suggest that you continue with your community service, be mindful of your grades in grad school, and attend as many of my sorors events that you can. This is so my sorors will have a chance of getting to know you, and it gives you an opportunity to get to know them. Good luck to you in grad school, and your quest in joining the best sorority in the world!

7 year alum interested in joining Delta Sigma Theta, how do I proceed?
Q. I graduated from undergrad over 7 years ago. I recently finished my MBA. I am a looong time friend and supporter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I was not afforded the opportunity to Pledge in college as I was a scholarship athlete and time and other obstacles did not permit. I have however, maintained a strong connection with the organization as well as many of my friends and family (not immediate) that are Deltas. I would like to write a letter of interest for my local chapter as well as visit the National Chapter in Washington DC. However, I do not know the right approach. A. Hi there, First off congrats on your accomplishment of getting your MBA! Now to answer your question, the best thing I would do at this point is doing some research to figure out the nearest alum chapter where you live. Google can be your best friend in finding this info out. If you have no luck there, then I would contact National Headquarters and ask them if they can provide you with this information. Once you figure out this info, I would suggest finding out what future events/projects they have coming up. This is an excellent way to get noticed by my sorors, and allow them to get to know you, and for you to know them. Q. I am looking for an entry way into DST sorority. I have always had an interest, but not the opportunity. In college, the local chapter was suspended. I want to join for the right reasons, and not just for the fame, but I don't know where to start. Does anyone know whats the best way to get into this organization. Also, my mom or grandmother were not apart of the organization, so I would be the first in my family to go on this journey, which motivates me more. A. Hello, If you are interested in pursuing membership int Delta Sigma Theta I would advise that you contact the Alumni chapter (www.dstchicago.com) and request to be put on the mailing list so that you can attend events, programs and service activities to get to know the Deltas in the chapter and they can get to know you. As stated on this page email mztat9@aol.com with your name and email address requesting to be on the mailing list. Next, though you're far from membership, I would advise that you save up your money because pursuing membership is not cheap, then I advise that you start thinking of Deltas that you know as well as professionals you know who would write you a stellar recommendation. Also, if you haven't been volunteering… [cont.]

A. A Delta Sigma Theta Interview, is just like a regular job interview. So my advice is to prepare just like you would if you were applying for a job. Point out your strengths, make sure you know and can answer why you want to become a member of this illustrious organization, and be professional. I feel it's wonderful that you are so involved in community service, keep up the good work! As far as your g.p.a, I wouldn't worry about that. You meet the minimal requirements to apply so I say go for it. What I found when I was in school and we were going through choosing women for intake, I noticed that there were some women that were stronger in some areas than areas. (for example, having a 3.9 g.p.a, but minimal community service, or 2.9 g.p.a… [cont.]

A. No, you can not join Delta, or any other Divine 9 Organization in H.S. The qualifications for joining is either 1. You are attending a four year university that currently has an active chapter on campus 2. You have received a bachelor's degree from a four year university, and you can apply for alumnae membership Of course in addition that, you have to meet the minimal qualifications, and to join as well. Please visit our National Website for more information pertaining to membership.

A. There's always hope if you want to join Delta...You have two options...one, you would have to transfer to a college or university that has a current chapter (I wouldn't recommend this if you are at a school that you love and you are close to graduating soon) and your only other options is to wait until you graduate and join an alum chapter. If Delta is in your heart, then trust me, it's worth waiting for! Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck!

What are the benefits of joining Delta Sigma Theta sorority incorporated?
Q. I have been interested in this organization for a while now, but I never took the leap to rush for fear of rejection. Now i'm about to graduate and I know that you can go grad-chapter but I was told that by doing that no one will respect you. Is that true? I thought it was suppose to be about sisterhood and serving the community so why does it make such a difference if you go grad or under grad? What does it mean exactly to be a member of DST, I know what I think it means but i'm not a member so I can't say for sure? I mean what are the benefits because I have sisters and networking ability.
Asked by Franky N - Mon Apr 7 15:36:24 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First off, I commend what my Soror Sophisticated Lady told you about our sorority. Next, let me ask you this: do you want to be a Delta so that people will respect you, or because you want to be part of a sisterhood and help the community? I know it sounds like a no-brainer, but honestly ask yourself that. There are many young ladies who search for the right sorority for the wrong reasons. What you said above was absolutely correct: it IS supposed to be about sisterhood and serving the community. It's not about what you can get, but what you can give. I'm not going to sit here and sell MY sorority because, in my opinion, Delta speaks for itself; it's your decision to figure out what's best for you. But think about what my Soror said;… [cont.]

A. The only options you have at this point are: Checking to see if there is a city-wide chapter that includes your school. Transferring to another school that has an active chapter (I would NOT recommend this option as you are in school to earn a degree not to join an organization) Wait until after you graduate and join an alumnae chapter. Good luck to you!

A. The best way to find out how to join my organization is to visit our national website at If you go to this site you will find everything you need regarding GPA requirements, when you are eligible for intake, etc..I would also advice reading "In Search of Sisterhood" by Paula Giddings. To answer your question, No you do not have to be a stepper, and we pride ourselves in serving the community. So although there is no "set amount" of community service that you need to preform, we weed out people who only perform service just to get into the organization. We are looking for solid and continuous service in future members who enjoy serving the community. Good luck to you!

I want to join Delta Sigma Theta.?
Q. I really want to join Delta Sigma Theta but my GPA is an 2.6. I know that the minimum requirements to pledge is an 2.75. I am very active in my community and on campus. I was wondering if that would make up for it, because I would really love to join. If anyone might know who is a part of the organization that could help me. That would be wonderful.
Asked by JANE DOE - Wed Sep 2 10:54:38 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the local chapter can't answer your question, contact national. Maybe why your GPA is 2.6 is you are spending too much time on community and campus activities. If you were to continue with your present levels of activity and join a sorority, your GPA would drop lower. While it is commendable that you are active in outside activities, your first priority is to get the best grades you can and graduate. Good luck! Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Can you join Delta Sigma Theta without community service?
Q. I have recently become very interested in joining the Delta Sigma Theta chapter on campus, but I'm nervous that I may not be chosen because I don't have any community service. During high school, I focused on athletics and academics, so I could never do the community service like I'd wanted. Plus, I never though I'd be interested in joining a sorority so I wasn't in any hurry to find community service events. Regardless, I still feel like Delta Sigma Theta is where I need to be for all the right reasons. Is there a chance I'll make it? Thank you, but I'm already enrolled at a University.

A. You need to check the requirements with your chapter. The New Haven Chapter does not require you to have past community service. This is their Requirements for Eligibility: 1. Candidates must be female (this is a gender specific program). 2. All applicants must be in 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the 2009-2010 school year. 3. Applicants must be exemplary of wholesome character and of the desire to work with others in sisterly love. 4. All applicants must provide a copy of their most recent report card. 5. New applicants must complete a 100 word essay on the attached topic.

Now to answer you question, the best way you can join Delta is finding out the nearest grad chapter in the area that you reside. Once you've done that, go to our national website at and check and see if they have their website listed. Another way of accomplishing this goal is simply googling the chapter to see if their website pops up. Most grad chapter has their events, Rush info, community service projects, etc listed. Joining The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority... West Region?
Q. I was wondering about California and their policy about joining a sorority. the reason I am focusing on the west region is because I am WELL aware of how different California is (whether people want to admit it or not). For those who know... 1. I was wondering why doesn't the DST have a rush at the schools (no, they do not) so how could one join the DST? 2. Also; I was wondering why DST's ask for the student ID if they are not checking your grades? 3. And... I am a senior now.. is the best bet to get in touch with the grad chapter in my area and try to join them? I have only been at my school for a year (graduating early :) ) and I don't believe its a good idea to stay and extra year just to try and pledge DST.

As far as RUSH, they could have had a RUSH but you were not aware of it, either b/c signs were taken down or placed in places you do not frequent. Also, unless another line has gone through while you were at school, there is no need for RUSH. We do not have to have MIP (Membership Intake Process) every year or every other year for that matter so RUSH is only held when MIP will be performed. As far as your ID and grades, no we do not CHECK your grades however, the ID is needed to make sure you are a student at the school.
