Now my step-daughter just tells me she does nothing. We live 6,000 miles away and are moving there in 2 months but until then I would like some info from people who actually have experienced the program. I have been to the website, but I would like actual true stories. Please Help! Thanks to all serious answers! : )

Are you opposed to school-vouchers for K through 12? Yes, why?
Q. What are your arguments against such a program?
Asked by John - Thu Apr 10 00:41:25 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's a messy system. I feel that the government should simply fund and staff public schools well enough that all children can get a reasonable education at their local public school. Giving vouchers facilitates parents pulling kids out of schools with problems and sending them somewhere else instead of mobilizing the PTA to do something to improve things. So how are schools with problems ever going to get better? Wouldn't they just become more underfunded and populated by kids from disadvantaged and/or apathetic families? Also, I don't like the idea of my tax dollars going to vouchers that may be used for religious schools. While I think that teaching religion to children is fine, the government isn't supposed to be paying for it.

I have a new idea for a class forum for grades K-12, How to implement it?
Q. My idea revolves around the disabled society. A class that teaches about disabilities that is taught in the same manner as history, math, english, black history, etc. My idea is that this class be taught at levels K through 12, in the same manner that these other subject matters are taught. Some possible topics include: basic fundamentals of varying disabilities and their impacts in a disabled persons personal and family life, their habits and decisions, as well as work related issues concering the disabled. It could include ADA Guidelines and rules, disabled people in history, and in the present, who have or are making a difference (i.e. S. Hawkings, C. Reeves, M. Fox). Other topics include: Specialized equipment for the disabled,… [cont.]

A. That must have been inspired by my question. I will give you the best answer. It was beneficial. It's certainly unjustifiable that disabled people must suffer prejudice, let alone adapting to their disability. I'm not sure how this would be taught Kindergarten children, though. This idea would be great, but I fear that able people will be too sympathetic that they'll treat you too differently. Would that affect you? I'm sure parents should take the initiative to teach their children about being polite and acknowledging that everyone is different. That would be much better. I'm only 16. The only difference I can make is by being an example unto others. I'll remember this question for sure if it's implemented in the future. How great… [cont.]

Did you attended Catholic schools from K-12?
Q. I'd be interested to know from current college students, or others who went through K-12 fairly recently, whether they consider their Catholic school experience overall a positive one even if, at some point along the way, you went through a period of hating it and wanting to be in public schools. Does the education you received give you an edge on your PS-educated peers in college? Would you send your future children to Catholic schools based on your experience?
Asked by Clare - Mon May 7 12:01:07 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I went to catholic schools from K-12 and I live in the suburbs of a large city. The public schools in my area are very good (the high school I would have went to had I gone to a public school is rated one of the best in the country), but I come from a traditional Irish Catholic family, so off I went. Honest, the education wasn't that different. I did get a more multicultural experience (i.e. more minority students) at my Catholic high school than the public school would have given me. But the only real difference between my high school and the public school was that we had religion classes and wore uniforms. My high school was a great school, and since it was a large one (1400 students), it was easy to maneuver and make friends. It… [cont.]

Why do kids of illegal immigrants get to go to school K-12 for free?
Q. Schools are paid for through American tax dollars, and yet the government allows the kids to go to school for free. Why aren't the parents required to give a valid SSN to prove they are here legally? The government is purposely looking the other way. I know it is not the kids' fault, but why are the parents allowed to stay once they have broken the law? This also creates a problem, because now the government feels obligated to give these kids financial aid to college. Good points on both sides of those who answered. Also I should clarify that I'm also including kids born outside the U.S. and are living with the illegal parents. The kids are not citizens, but by law they still go to school from K-12. Once again, I'm not talking about kids… [cont.]

A. It isn't free. WE pay for it and the funding is taken from, and programs are limited and eliminated for, our own children. I agree that education is not a 'basic' right we should have to provide those illegally here when our OWN children aren't getting adequate education in areas where illegal immigrants concentrate.

If the Devil runs this world, then why do we bother going through school/college/work and getting up daily?
Q. I mean if all the religious people and the Christians say how the "Devil" runs the show and we should deny the flesh and everything, then why did we bother going through K-12, college, work, marriage, what about exercize, so that the "Flesh" doesn't develop diabetes or other illnesses? Should we just tell our doctors that we have to deny ourselves? lol. Honestly, so much of this religious stuff, I can see it making sense from one angle, okay, but it just totally denies you a proper existence as well. It's like why learn, form hobbies and partake in things such as shoping, working, swimming, sex even, relationships, music, movies, etc. It would seem like to the true Christian and religious people ( who claim not to be of this world) … [cont.]

A. Well we need to be separated from this world. It doesn't mean we should disconnect ourselves and be homeless, but that we have our limits. We won't got to the strip club with our co-workers, but we might go out for lunch. The reason why us Christians are still here is because God hasn't come back yet. Jesus said He would be back even after he was resurrected. Check out this website, it should answer your question.

Q. In the United States and Canada, a certificate of attendance is a certificate given to students who complete the K-12 (kindergarten through 12th grade) program but do not meet the requirements for the high school diploma. Some of these decisions he's made leads me to believe he may fall in this category.

How do you feel about school in general?
Q. From K-12 through college, what do you think about school? Why did you or do you go to school? How did you get treated in the school system? Did you become a new person when you are in school? Do you behave differently in the school society? your answer should be formal and more general. Thanks

A. To quickly answer some of your questions quickly: 1. I went to school because my parents told me to; not because I wanted to. 2. The school system has treated me both generously and unfairly - many times unfairly. 3. Yes, I behave differently in school. And my parents don't know it. Personally, I hate today's school system. It's rubbish. I mean, what we just do there is memorize facts and put them on paper and we get graded! I hate being graded. And, technically, all human beings should, too. Because I believe that no mere numbers or letters are enough to measure a human mind's intelligence. In other words, grades are an insult to OUR intellectual capacities. why arent we taught more useful things in k-12?
Q. from kindergarten through high school kids are mostly taught things to equip them for a future career, but they arent required to take much that is really significant to life. but in college (if you get there) there are actually some much more useful classes like psychology (lots of very valuable material), philosophy (including: logic, religion, and ethics), child development, sociology, etc dont you think these kinds of courses should be required in grades k-12? first of all, im talking more about high school than elementary. and 2nd, my point is that we go through 12 years of our lives learning and re-learning mostly useless material without learning things that would really benefit us and have very positive effects on society. there… [cont.]

Should bilingual education be offered in the United States to students in grades K-12?
Q. The definition of bilingual education (in case anyone is confused on what that is) involves teaching most subjects in school through two different languages. Personally, I support bilingual education for multiple reasons. Does anyone agree or disagree with me? If so, please enlighten me on your opinion! Personally, I think the attack forced upon bilingual education denies children of their basic human and civil right, which is the right to learn in their native language. I feel it is a student s liberal right to receive fair education and learn his or her own languages in school not just for their own sake, but for the sake of our country as well. Economic development and stability are directly related to success in providing high-quality… [cont.]

A. Obviously, the two comments for English came from people that didn't get it! The question was not if the immigrant students should replace English with their native language ... or if English was not the official language of our nation... The question was whether or not people who are bilingual receive a benefit from learning TWO languages. Absolutely! They do. Brain research shows that students taught in two languages develop brain connections that increase their potential to be gifted and talented and recentely it was also discovered that bilingualism can delay the onset of dementia. In summary, academic achievement, global economy and health studies support the benefits of bilingualism. All students in the US should take advantage of… [cont.]

A. The combined parallel resistance is (R1*R2)/(R1 + R2), so: (900 *1500)/ (900 + 1500) = 562.5 ohms The current is I = E/R, so 12V/562.5 = 0.0213 A
