How come some kids respond positively to spanking while others don't?
Q. Why is it that there are some kids who respond positively to spanking, learn lessons from it and are made better people by it, and others who respond negatively and are disturbed or even scarred by it? Like, you see a kid every now and then who grows up to have a spanking fetish or something. Are kids' minds really so drastically different? I kind of think the effectiveness of discipline depends not so much on the method as on the kid. Like, there are some kids with whom it won't work, others with whom it will. Is that right?

A. Ok I'm a teenager and I'm from England so instead of spanking I'm going to use slapping :) First off, if anyone ever slapped me. My mother, my father anyone i would return the hit. No matter who it was, no one should be able to hit someone and get away with it. I class it as abuse whether it is bruised or not. Some kids will only respond to it through fear. Is that what you want, to intimidate your child. Nope. Theres much better ways to punish kids. Don't scream and shout you either loose respect and get walked all over, or frighten them. Worst thing for me is if my possesions are took away from me like my laptop.

A. I have seen it as early as 2 to 3 yrs of age. You child maybe a social butterfly who is happy to play and talk with everyone. He will have an active social life and have lots of friends. Other children find one or two friends who are close and play only with them. It really depends on your childs nature- introvert or extrovert

A. My Husband and I have a total of 21 nieces & nephews . For Christmas we try not to go over $15.00 per kid . It may seem hard to get anything for $15.00 - but I try to hit the sales , or just give gift cards. The $15.00 adds up quick for 21 kids! :)

How do kids stuck in the public school system learn socialization?
Q. They are locked away from the rest of the world just as if they were in prison. They are put with only kids in their own age group and not allowed to talk to them unless the supreme being (teacher) gives them permission. How sad these poor kids don't learn how things are in the real world. Uncalled, what makes you think home school kids are stuck at home and only socialize with their family? As far as my screen name I am very proud to be my husband's wife and my kid's mom. If more women would see the value and importance in raising their family instead of being told we should be little femenazis the world would be a much better place. Being a wife and mother IS who I am.

A. This is what you should be telling people who think home schooling a child will create an inbalance of socialization. Home schooling creates social skill problems? Really? I beg to differ. Like you said, kids are only allowed to socialize during certain times and only when the teacher allows.

Why do teachers ignore it when kids call each other names or pick on others?
Q. For teachers, or anyone who knows, I see time and again kids in school picking on the 'ugly' or the 'poor' kid with no interference from teachers or staff, particular in 4th and 5th graders. Is there some sort of teaching that says teachers are not to interfere when kids are interacting this way? These picked on kids come home, sometimes, in tears. What do you say?

A. My only insight is that the bystander kids have to be empowered to do something and say something. I think most of this goes on in places in school where adults are not around. A group of kids who show they will not tolerate bullying of one of their members is the best defense. It has been shown time and again that if just one person steps up, others will follow. We need to really work on this in the early grades so people do step up and start that chain reaction.

A. check out CASA they use volunteers to have with abused kids. CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as appointed members of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive. Are you ready to stand up for a child who needs you? What can our kids write on their shirts to welcome home their daddy from deployment?
Q. My husband will be coming home FINALLY from overseas after a long 15 month deployment. Our kids and I want to make t-shirts to wear when we welcome our soldier home next week. We are needing some cool ideas of what to put on our shirts. The kids will be making the shirts themselves, so it has to be something a 2, 6, and 10 year old can do (lol). Any ideas? What can we write on these t-shirts?
Asked by Proud_Army_Wife - Mon Aug 3 18:15:25 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. How about simple words like "I'M proud of my daddy", or "My daddy is brave", or maybe "I want to be just like my daddy!" Then, just "we missed you", "we love you". Maybe one of the older ones can make a little flag on his shirt and put daddy's name above it. Good luck and I'm so happy for you.

Do kids under the age of 16 use computers for something other than gaming?
Q. I am writing a letter to our local library. They are planning to no longer allow children under the age of sixteen use their computers. This is because they believe that the kids are only using the computers to play games. I am taking a survey and hopefully they will consider my letter. Please state your opinion. That would help me out a lot!! Thanks!
Asked by Lirenza - Tue Sep 23 12:43:02 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That is completely false. When I was in 4th grade, I started learning HTML, and built my own website from scratch. I also started learning BASIC and javascript soon afterwards. In 6th grade I started troubleshooting and fixing computers. If they don't want people playing games, they should block certain websites, not people. If they block sub-16 users, it would be unfairly discriminatory.

How can my brother find his kids?
Q. I have a question about my brother finding his kids. Long story short my brothers ex keeps moving and now my brother has lost contact with her and his kids for a couple of years now. They didn t split on bad terms or anything she is just really flaky and ended up getting a jealous new boyfriend blah blah blah. He s paying child support but when he called the child support place they said they couldn t give out her whereabouts and I ve tried looking her up on the internet but I cant find her either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how my brother can find his kids? Thanks in advance.
Asked by PhoebeBB - Tue Jul 3 00:27:22 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The reason child support won't give up the info on their where-abouts is because they actually need a written request from him and then the mother needs to say whether or not it is ok(sad...not at all fair for a good dad, but how it is done nowadays). And if she tries to claim abuse, it can tie things up longer (or long enough to move away again). Go to court and file whatever paperwork necessary. Make child support give you the info. Make them grant him the right to see his children.

Why do my kids have to have immunization records to attend school?
Q. Why do I have to prove immunization for my kids or else they are not allowed to attend school? The parents of illegals can walk in and demand that their kid is taught. Kids bringing in diseases to our kids and now our kids are required to have additional shots, but the illegals are not required to do a G-D thing. The schools let in illegals, simple as that. It is true. They are in our schools and bringing diseases to our kids. The point is...the more things we are required to do as citizens, the less things illegals are required to do. More and more demands are put on us, while more and more excuses are made for them. A. The problem here is the lack of health-screening of illegal aliens is contributing to rising numbers of cases of TB, leprosy, etc. "Many illegal aliens harbor fatal diseases that American medicine fought and vanquished long ago, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague, polio, dengue, and Chagas disease." In an article in the Journal of the American Medical Assn., Dr. Reuben Granich, a lead investigator for the Centers for Disase Control and Preention, reports the emergence in the U.S. of a particularly virulent, multi-drug -resistant form of tuberculosis known as MDR-TB. Evidence of it has surfaced in 38 of 61 California health jurisdictions, and it could threaten the efficacy of TB control efforts, Granich said. [cont.]

How do you get your kids out of the habit of coming to your bed in the middle of the night?
Q. My kids are 8 and 10, and almost guarenteed, every night one or both of them end up in my bed sometime in the night. Even if theres no storm (which would be understandable). I think they are getting too old to do that. Espeically, cuz sometimes after a night of passion with my husband, we fall asleep naked. Well, thats just WRONG for kids to crawl into bed with us like that. And it also puts a damper on morning sex, which we both enjoy, but often can't cuz of "little company". I want to get them out of that habit. Is there a best way to handle that, or should I just let it go and be sure to put some clothes on after the passion is over? How is custody determined when social services takes the kids?
Q. A woman I know of is most likely going to lose her kids due to abuse. Kentucky social services is talking about giving "indefinate" custody to one of the kids' (divorced) grandparents or other relatives like an aunt or uncle. How will they determine who will get the children? Living conditions, location (as in how close to the mother), financial stability, etc? Can an unmarried, heterosexual, financially stable couple ask for custody? How much will small-town politics help someone who doesn't deserve the kids gain custody? If custody is granted to someone and they move in with the mother, will social services re-take the kids? **Anything** you can tell me related to the above would be appreciated, especially if you can provide links.

A. The best interests doctrine will always come into play. Before the custodial rights can be permanently terminated, the courts have to get involved. At that time, the judge, in conjunction with Protective Services, will evaluate the parents -- and determine if, in fact, abuse did occur. . . what type and how severe that abuse was . . . as well as who the perpetrator was. They'll determine which of the parents (if either) are more apropriate to care for the children -- mentally, physically, financially. If the parents live together, or are both abusive (or provide an inhospitable environment -- such as alcholics, drug abusers . . . ) the court can look outside the parents to grandparents, adult siblings, aunts/uncles. . . If nobody… [cont.]
