What is the importanceof kids/teens getting 9 hours of sleep?
Q. I heard that kids/teens need 9-12 hours of sleep at night for their brain to function correctly the next day. What does the brain need to do? What is the importance of this? I know that I rarely don't get that much sleep at night, I'm in Junior High, and I seem to be able to function the next day. Just wondering... Thanks! I meant that I rarely get that much sleep, not that I rarely 'dont' get that much sleep...

A. An average teenager needs about 8.5-9.25 hours of sleep per day. As long as you are feeling alert during the day and not drowsy, you don't really have to worry about it. Some people are long sleepers and some people are short sleepers, so there is no real standard.

Do you think a soap opera will cast kids and teens?
Q. I don't know, but my mom says that if I audition for a soap opera, I won't be cast because soap operas usually have young adults. (people in their twenties) If I'm a kid/teen do you think they'll hire me?
Asked by Noelle - Sun Jul 12 14:55:58 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most soaps have a small number of very young actors. It all depends on your ability to show them how much THEY need YOU!. Not the other way around. Don't be cocky, but definitely be confident. How old are you? I would look toward soaps that have babies or young children that may need to go through some aging here soon. It won't hurt. If you have the talent, you will be amazed at what you will be blessed with. Just be careful out there. I wish you all the best. Possible Soaps to consider: Guiding Light - they tend to have a young group of kids Young and the Restless - ditto.. All My Children Do you just want Soap Operas? I would look toward Nickelodeon and Disney. I know the competition is hard, but you never know. You could… [cont.]

A. Call your local social services depart or mental health department and ask about programs in your area. Then contact them and ask about volunteer opportunities. You may or may not get to help the kids directly, but you will be contributing which ultimately is all that matters.

Why is it unprofessional for teachers to kiss or hug or make out with partners when kids/teens can see?
Q. Why is it unprofessional for teachers to kiss or hug or make out with partners when kids/teens can see? Surely its a good thing to see people in love or showing affection? And like the teenagers would not be doing the same with their loves? And maybe help them to relate? Kiss and make out like you would anywhere else... ie hi honey kiss in the playground. As for appropiateness... how? Parents shouls kiss and hug to make their kids more secure. The older siblings do... Why hide things so kids think its bad.? Maturity is dealing with accidents and emergencies seriously, of if somones dying or you have reason to be dealiy serious. Why not be fun the rest of the time? Ie if kids misbehave then he serious. If not relaxed. Still dont… [cont.]
Asked by As_It_Is - Sun Jan 21 15:09:15 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Simply put, it's unprofessional. If you're at a school function, you should be acting as a teacher first. It's acceptable for students to see that you have a spouse, but it's not necessary for them to see that you're great at swapping gum. Kids see enough PDA on television for them to get a good dose of affection and "relate" to it. They don't need to see teachers doing it. It's not necessary. If you're out in public and KNOW a student is around, you should use discretion.

Do You Think Teens and kids should be sheltered and be supervised on everything?
Q. Like for movies example. I think its okay for a 13 or 14 year old to watch PG13 and R movies, I dont think they should be sheltered, and should learn how the world really is. I think if parents shelter their kids and teens from movies like that its not a good idea. Whats your opinion with violence and drugs and stuff?
Asked by Jessica B - Sat Apr 5 18:04:53 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. yes, but there are some things in R rated movies that are NOT appropriate for 13/14 yo's. Maybe 17/18 yo's but not that young. if you can raise your kids to think for themselves and know what's right from wrong, then yeah, let them experience a little bit of the real world. but if not, please don't do it. they'll see people doing sex and drugs, and whatnot, and since they don't know any better they'll think it's ok and start doing it themselves. i think your theory is a little faulty. you can teach your kids how the real world is without sheltering them, but there is a way to do it that they don't get into big time trouble in the mean time. u can still protect them, instead of letting them do whatever they want because "might as well,… [cont.]

Do you think teens and kids are losing their social skills ?
Q. I have no opinion on this, I just heard someone say this because kids and teens spend masses of time on the internet, my space, face book, texting etc, has led to increasing violence in schools, or humiliations at parties (and it is sent to one another on their phones / posted on youtube etc). When I say losing social skills i mean perhaps they lack empathy from lack of face to face interactions, which makes them more prone to violence and humiliating others for fun... What do you think?

A. I don't know about violence and all that.. but their definitly loosing social skills. i say this from experience. basically right now in college unless i start a conversation no one else takes the first step. and also how many people do you see talk on phones anymore? texting is taking over.

Q. For the generation of the 1930's and 40's they had to deal with the great depression and WW2. Would the kids of today cope?

A. Oh god, that would be trauma for today's kids. Most of us are very spoiled compared to the kids of that decade. EDIT: You guys, this is nothing like it was in the 30's and 40's. We aren't rationing anything. We can freely buy things at the store without a limit.

Q. I'm 14 and I know if I were an adult I would want kids answering my questions. I try to avoid questions asked by adults. I try to find questions early teens, late teens, maybe early adult (20ish) I think yahoo should open up a teen forum for teens and let the adults have this one.

A. I'm an adult and I am pretty sick of the "am I pretty?" "is my nose too big for my body?" "does he like me?" and "omg! my parents are like the most totally worst people to ever come into my life. help" questions!! However this place is suppose to be educational and the younger people can learn from the adults if the adults are willing to give good answers and not be so closed minded about things. I do give good advice to the teens because I was a teen once and life can be hard and sometimes they just need to hear that they're not in the wrong and some advice to get through a situation. Either way, the teens are still going to come onto the one they're not suppose to use and the teen one could be a huge playground for child molesters...s [cont.]

Survey for a new kids and teens website?
Q. I am conducting a survey for a new site for kids and teens, along with some things about puberty. I notice a lot of girls (10-14) are very worried because they don't wear a bra yet, and friends/relatives do. So, I will prove on the website that all girls are different by asking: What age were you when you starting wearing a bra? I want to show that everyone is different. Thank you for the cooperation everyone that answers.
Asked by Please answer these surveys for - Mon Dec 1 14:19:19 2008 - - 30 Answers - 0 Comments

A. From about eight or nine I wore a training bra, at eleven a non padded bra which I hate and from age twelve I've wore a padded one. Also just incase you want to make it clear everyone needs different sizes I'm a 34AA or 34A depending on the bra while my friend is much bigger. I'm thirteen and so is my friend. Hope I helped!

Asked by tgggiraffe - Sat Feb 2 14:10:40 2008 - - 11 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Because it sounds like you are really trying to reach out and educate others, why not invent a board game - like monopoly, call it something like "The race for Climate Stability." From there, you will have to do a little research on how to market and sell your game. Another thing you can do is write articles and submit them to your local civic association for publication in their newsletter. It can include simple things that everyone can do to make a difference (e.g. not bagging their leaves but mulching them instead) or explaining exactly what things should or should not go in the recycle bin, etc. Your question is breath of fresh air. I am so glad to hear when the younger generation gets actively involved in this issue.

What outdoor recreational equipment is best to buy for kids/teens?
Q. We live in a very rural area where city parks or playgrounds, skating rinks or public pools are really at a minimum, and have an older young-adult son who as a teenager got into some trouble here, but the new family plan to prevent this with the current teenager is this: if we have "cool stuff" for our son and his friends to do HERE, and this is the "hang out", we'll know where our kid is, who he is with and what he is doing AND we'll provide him with fun things to do so he isn't bored and likely to get into trouble. We've considered a small pool as we all love swimming, he wants to save his own money and buy a hot tub (as well as the wiring to power it - thoughtful young man!), I thought maybe a trampoline and he isn't especially fond of… [cont.]
Asked by Giovanni - Thu Oct 12 15:24:26 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A pool would be very expensive. If you want something you can set up straight away you could go for a Basketball hoop. A fort is probably a bit childish, but you could get him involved in building one for the younger children. If he likes to make things, perhaps he could have his own workshop. If you have alot of land aven something like a small beach volley ball court or soccer goal at one end of the back yard. Cricket pitch is another idea.
