What's the difference between killing dogs and deer hunting?
Q. We all have heard about Micheal Vick, and pleaing guilty to dogfighting charges. My question is if killing dogs is inhumane then why are laws not the same for deer hunting? I have seen in houses people hanging the heads of deers that they have killed. Is that not inhumane, or is killing deers perfectly fine, but killing dogs is inhumane and illegal?
Asked by flash22 - Mon Aug 27 19:53:11 2007 - - 25 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because deer tastes good and I grew up eating it. Dogs, I don't know. Dogs aren't jumping in front of my car in the morning . Everyone is against hunting. Well do you all eat steak, fish, chicken? Let me guess all of you who said hunting is wrong are pure vegetarian? Right. How do you think that hamburger you've eaten got on that bun. Someone killed an animal to provide it for you. As man takes up their habitat I guess you buncha wussy's think its better to allow them to starve and freeze to death. Oh yeah they can always get hit by cars and die a slow agonizing death if they aren't lucky enough to get hit by a truck. Next time you go to the grocery store think about that meat your buying. I'll bet the Great Plastic Wrap Fairy had nothing… [cont.]

How do I kill the root of an oak tree damaging my foundation without killing the tree?
Q. There is an oak tree damaging my foundation in my backyard and I need to know how to get rid of it without killing the tree. Is there such a way?
Asked by pamelawells12 - Sat Aug 29 20:55:16 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I agree with Sara, you'd have no choice but to remove the root in question ONLY. You'd have to be able to dig a big enough hole to expose the roots and then have someone cut out ONLY the root that is damaging your foundation. Hopefully that will remove the problem and still not kill the tree.

Would killing people who pose a threat to society be justified if the police wont arrest them?
Q. Hypothetically, someone poses a threat to society and has already killed someone through his reckless actions is released back into society, wouldn't it be justified in killing him because he might harm others again? The police wont arrest him because he hasn't done anything after being released, but does a pose a threat. If people like this were killed rather than spending taxpayer's money on providing food and shelter for them, we would be much safer and these people dont deserve rights.

A. If you kill other people because you believe they are a threat to society, then you yourself are a threat to society.

Should killing a police officer carry a stiffer penalty than killing a civilian?
Q. I'm not advocating killing cops, but killing a police officer is a federal offense. Why? What makes a police officer's life any more valuable than anyone else's?

A. I think many put their live on the lines hundreds of time a year to help others. "Laughter" is correct on the statement too-about what is a federal offense and with whom. Does the average citizen? How many times does the average citizen have to answer a call that involves mobs, drug dealers, domestic, rapist, killers, kidnappers, nuts with guns, speeders who kill and so on... When was the last time you looked at someone who had a gun on you? Ask most policeman it happens often enough. I don't know any who would say never in their time as an officer. Do they deserve perhaps a little more consideration for protecting many and putting themselves out there It is not a matter that they are better than anyone else's life --it is a matter… [cont.]

How do you keep a hawk from killing birds at a birdfeeder?
Q. I feed wild birds throughout the winter for the fun of it and don't want to quit feeding them, but a hawk keeps killing them. I live in a semi-rural area in Southern Ohio and love my birds. The feeder is near my kitchen window (15ft) and the Hawk swoops in from field and scares the birds. Normally birds fly into the window and the hawk picks them up and carries them away. It has killed over 8 birds and it has left 2 birds to die on my deck. Please help me. -thanks
Asked by themanwodrums - Mon Jan 18 11:59:46 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sounds like you need to move the feeder away from the window first of all. You can take it down entirely for a week or so until the hawk realizes there is no easy meals there and then replace it (away from the window) once the hawk leaves the area. Or keep it up, but move it to an area where there is some cover for the birds so they might hide if the hawk comes in. You last choice is to remove the feeder completely. I assume this is a Cooper's Hawk that is eating them..they are smaller hawks and are very maneuverable. Besides that, there is not much you can do to stop nature. Keep in mind you cannot harm, or harass the hawk in any way, they are protected by law.

What mamals are killing members of the same specie?
Q. I remember, but I'm not sure about it, that Konrad Lorenz said that humans are the only mamals killing members of the same specie. Recently, I saw on TV a movie showing that chimpanzees are killing chimpanzees too. But some people I spoken to recently say there are many mamals killing con-specifics. Is there any specific difference between humans and chimps of killing members of their own specie and the other mammals? Thank you all
Asked by Rampante - Sun Dec 30 18:01:21 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many mammals will kill other members of their own species. Most times, it is during territorial conflicts or competition for mates. Males competing over territory or mates usually attempt to resolve conflicts through bluff and intimidation, but when fights occur, they can be deadly to one combatant. In almost any species where males fight, there are occasional deaths. In some species where groups of females are "owned" by a male, a new male taking ownership after defeating the previous male will kill that males offspring. This is common in lions in particular. By removing the young of the defeated male, the new owner brings the females back into estrus more rapidly, and ensures that his genes dominate the next generation. … [cont.]

How to keep away insects and mosquitoes from home without killing them.?
Q. I have seen in many restaurants, hotels and other prime places they use electronic equipments to kill small insects. I want if there some other tool so that we keep them out without killing them. After-all they also have right to live, we have no right to kill them.

A. You might not feel that way if you lost a pet from west nile disease, or someone you knew got it because of mosquitoes. If you want something eco friendly then put up bat houses to eat mosquitoes or attract insect eating birds through feeding them or houses...do your research as to what insects you have and what eats them. Try a natural venue for controlling insects.

What are the animals that will kill just for the sake of killing?
Q. I've heard that aside from humans, there are only about five other animals that will kill just for the sake of killing (as opposed to killing for food or self-defense). Minks are supposed to be one of them. Do you know the others? I didn't know about the making war on its own species thing...thanks for the information. However, I meant killing in general, not just intra-species killing.

How do I tell if my loud noise is killing my fish?
Q. I recently bought some fish (5 guppies and a Siamese fighting), and put them in my lounge room. I like to watch movie with loud sound, but got me worried because I know fish die from loud sound. Now, will my fish swim around if it's killing/hurting them? Or will they stay still? Don't want to kill 'em. Thanks, Jebus Pet shop lady said he wouldn't, but we'll see what happens. Thanks for the reply, they stay still when I watch movies.
Asked by Jebus - Tue Sep 23 11:47:58 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's hard to know what is too much noise. Start with a quiet room, let them settle down and get used to your presence because even you entering the room can either get them excited for food or nervous for a second. Turn on the music or dvd and you will firstly notice them darting around in a panic, then they'll 'settle' in a hiding spot. If those things happen then it's too loud. As long as youre speakers are not too near or can vibrate through a shared surface then you can get away with adequate volumes, you dont need to remain whisper quiet. just observe your fish regularly and you quickly get to realise whats natural behaviour and what's odd.

How could the killing curse kill the horcrux/piece of voldemorts soul living inside Harry?
Q. How could this be if only certain items (such as basilisk venom and curse fire) can destroy horcruxes. Or is it just a piece of voldemorts soul that could be terminated by the killing curse, please explain in detail, thanks.
Asked by Lauren - Sat Oct 10 23:17:42 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think it was because Voldemort killed Harry personally, so therefore he killed the part of his soul living in Harry. Because the piece of soul can't live without it's host, it died when Harry "died."

Is there anything I can do to discourage my 18month old female cat from hunting & killing?
Q. I know it's in a cats nature to hunt and kill various small animals. I don't so much have a problem with her killing things, it's more the fact that we often find just a head or a pile of guts or a chewed up bird. It's bad enough that she leaves these grisely discoveries for us outside but she is starting to bring things into the house. My 5year old daughter is finding this very distressing and I'm concerned about the cat bringing dead things into the house as I find the whole thing stomach churning and unhygenic & I'm extra worried because we've got a baby due in 6weeks. She seems to have a real taste for killing now and kills something everyday. She's had mice, rats, birds, moles and a even baby rabbit (which really upset my daughter).… [cont.]

A. I don't know about other spiders, but I know how to kill black widows. Spray straight amonia towards the base of your house. Make sure that there are no pets, or kids, etc., around when you do this. The amonia pulls the black widows out and the fumes kill them. Good luck. I hate spiders too!!!

How do I stop my beagle from killing chickens?
Q. Our beagle (Bagel) is 2 yrs old. We go to our farm about once a month and chickens run free there. There is no way to pen them up or keep them out of her sight. Also, putting her on a leash is not ideal as she loves to run free, and other than her chicken killing habit is a good girl. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this habit may be broken?
Asked by Jess V - Sun Jan 3 10:24:37 2010 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'll need to restrain the dog for at least the short term. There's no other way to interrupt the behavior. You can work on teaching Leave It, but casing and hunting is what the dog was bred to do. It's going to take awhile to train a reliable enough Leave It to protect small game around the dog.She might never be reliable around chickens because she's succeeded many many times in getting them.
