Knowledge is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as (i) expertise, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject, (ii) what is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information or (iii) awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. Philosophical debates in general start with Plato's formulation of knowledge as "justified true belief". There is however no single agreed definition of knowledge presently, nor any prospect of one, and there remain numerous competing theories. Knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning. The term knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose if appropriate. See Knowledge Management for additional details on that discipline. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What is the difference between subjective and objective knowledge? Q. I'm confused about what is the difference between these types of knowledge. I know so far (I'm not sure though, that's why I'm asking) that objective knowledge comes from a person's own experience and it can't be measured while subjective knowledge is a person's impressions, opinions, feelings and it is measurable. Am I right? and can anyone add any more in depth analysis?? Asked by serena - Mon Jun 1 22:36:51 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. In my opinion, objective knowledge is basically things that have a greater degree of tangibility and are unbiased (e.g. 2 + 2 = 4). Subjective is, like you said, one's impressions and opinions (e.g. that movie was terrible - not a fact because other people may like it). What new knowledge and technologies enabled 15th century mariners to make long overseas voyages? Where did much of this technology originate? Columbus and Dead Reckoning (DR) navigation At the end of the fifteenth century, celestial navigation was just being developed in Europe, primarily by the Portuguese. Prior to the development of celestial navigation, sailors navigated by "deduced" (or "dead") reckoning, hereafter called DR. This was the method used by Columbus and most other sailors of his era. In DR, the navigator finds his position by measuring the course and distance he has sailed from some known point. Starting from a known point, such as a port, the navigator measures out his course and distance from that point on a chart, pricking the chart with a pin to mark the new position. Each day's ending position would be the starting point for the next day's course-and-dista [cont.] Answered by sanddancer - Tue Jan 6 12:56:08 2009 How would the world be different if knowledge was considered dangerous?
Q. And for those of you who believe it IS considered dangerous: How would the world be different if knowledge wasn't considered dangerous? Asked by Wrenched - Fri Feb 8 16:25:59 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. If knowledge wasn't dangerous perhaps it would signify the evolutionary rise of Homo Futuris. We poor humans can't handle the truth most of the time. But I believe our TV shows and movies would probably be a lot more exciting.
