Is it a good idea to continue with Kumon?
Q. My three kids 7,8, 10 are taking Kumon classes in Maths but they complain a lot about it. Has Kumon helped anyone?

A. There are better programs out there other than Kumon. I started going in the third grade and haven't seen results in the first year I went. Kumon is only good if you start at a young age and continue going for many years, other than that, it isn't so useful. If your kids need help in subjects they are dealing with right now, another program would be better. Kumon focuses on practice and it's hard to get into the next level.

What do tutors at Kumon really do?
Q. I'm thinking of accepting a job at kumon as a tutor, but I'm curious to know what they really have to do, and how much teaching is involved for the tutor. Hope someone can help.

A. You are not directly helping the kids. Kumon is a self-learning center and although the kids may get help if they are needed, the correct way to help them is by referring them back to the examples. Most positions at a Kumon center is to grade work. There are some centers that do things differently, but for the most part, centers follow the regular center routine. I would be able to help you if I knew your age and what position it is that you are applying for.

A. i work at a kumon center and honestly I really am not sure if it helps that much, it is about 100-110 a month to go there plus other one time fees like registration. And also Kumon provides the work so you could be doing stuff at kumon that you may never do at school. You could consider a private tutor although that will most likely be more expensive, but the education will be a lot better. I see a lot of parents bringing in their kids to take the placement/diagnostic test to see if they really need help
