How fast can you go in Kumon?
Q. I'm told that Kumon is a self directed program for math fluency. I have a 10 year old who can do the math accurately, but I can't seem to get him fast. How long does the program take to help in speed? I'm just told kids have to do these little packets. If they complete them within in a few days, do they move on? Can anyone give an example of each level's questions?

A. Well, there is a certain time limit for the levels. The levels go for A to N. They give you a 10 page packet(for level A and B) and a 5 page packet(for level C, D, E, and so on). You are supposed to do 1 packet per day, or unless in level B, they give you 2 packets per each day in the weekend. I got in speed really quickly. I have passed 4 levels in the past 4-5 months. The time limit for the packets vary. it is usually 20-30 minutes per packet. It'll probably take about 2 months for him to get fast. They give you 30-50 packets per level.

Can i speak fluently english if i go to KUMON?
Q. ever heard of Kumon? they have the cutest logo and weirdess i ever seen, some cram school that is supposed to improve your grade, never been there but plan to. A. I was in Kumon for around... 6 years or more. I took math, but i say that it has helped me in a way as it improved my speed and accuracy in solving math problems. My cousin took the English one, and from the way he's doing now, i can say that he improved. basically, Kumon (if ever you are allowed to enroll) will start you off at a lower level (like me for example, i was grade 4 but i started with grade 2 math.) and from there, you have to work on sheets (200 usually) and then you take an achievement test. if you pass, then you move on to the next level (depicted by letters). if you don't pass, they're going to see where you got the most mistakes, and from there, they're going to review you in those parts before you're allowed to take the… [cont.]

How long should it take to do my Kumon?
Q. I've been enrolled in Kumon for nearly 2 years. Sometimes it takes me 10 minutes to do it. Others, sometimes an hour to do...help? What is a good time to start and finish kumon? Also, how can I convince my mom to let me quit after I complete level "J"?
Asked by Andrew F - Fri Nov 6 21:22:05 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well U should of started when you were a kid like in gr 3> and start AFTER!!! your school work, that way you dont fall behind in school, remember your in kumon to do better in school. Depending on the level your on and how much worksheets you do in a day =how much time needed to do the work. Tell your mom that Kumon takes too much time when in lvl J and that you dont have enough time to do your school work, there's no point in being in kumon but not having any time to do the work they give you.

Q. I am doing Reduction in Kumon level D. Can anyone tell me a quicker ways to do these types of sums? 45 __ 63
Asked by Tanny - Mon Jan 19 23:49:09 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You just have to be able to see that 45 and 63 are both divisible by 9. So just divide the numerator and denominator by 9, giving you 5/7

Are Kumon workbooks good birthday gifts for 4 year olds?
Q. I think the Kumon teaching methods ( are better than many other ones and their junior workbook set for preschoolers, e.g. My First Book of Tracing and My Book of Rhyming Words, are very suitable for these little ones. But are they good birthday gifts for 4 year olds? Will parents think they are silly? Kids would need some parents' help to follow through on the exercises (not a whole lot once they get going on it). Would this be a bad idea for busy parents?

Q. Does anyone know how i can apply as a tutor for kumon? or do i just walk in and ask to apply? what are the requirements and such?
Asked by mashimaro - Mon May 28 14:16:50 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First visit this site: www.kumon.com Then ask yourself if you are capable/qualified to join it. Also you should know that a private tutor can charge a higher rate but you are restricted to a specific area - smaller market of potential students. If you tutor online, the rate is lower but you can have more students. Think outside the box! Try online tutoring. Then you can have a worldwide market of potential students. Try sites like: (1) (2) (3) ... many other sites (use search engine) Think outside the box and you'll have more options! Good luck !

I'm entering 9th grade and just joined Kumon. I feel like an idiot, I'm in level F. Is the program beneficial?
Q. Hi, I just joined Kumon like two weeks ago and I'm in level F, the equivalent of a 6th grade math education. I was wondering if the program really works for people of my age as I heard from some people that it is only truly beneficial from middle schoolers or younger. I was wondering how many levels can you usually pass through in a year? I'm taking Geometry this year so I hope that by the end of this year, I can be ahead of grade level and maybe even start to learn pre-cal in a year or two, is it plausible? Also, if you take or have taken Kumon, is it really beneficial even if a person such as I started kind of late such as during high school and not earlier? Thanks for the help!

A. i'm currently enrolled in Kumon and have been enrolled for the past 7 years. im going to be a junoir in the fall and am on level L. i believe it is beneficial in many ways. even though you are new to the program, i am sure your instructor may advance you quickly if you have the knowledge. even though you are in level F, is it not bad to continue. in the future, it will help you greatly and the material goes very high, up to statistics i believe. there is some downfall to starting late, but at the end, you'll be thankful.

Q. i have been struggling a lot lately in honors trig. currently i have a D and i want to be able to bring it up an an A in 5 weeks. (is this possible? test coming up along with project) so, i want to get a tutor. is kumon worth it and does it help? how much do they charge?

A. Kumon focuses on building the basics from the ground up. It is a process that takes YEARS to full take affect. You really have to spend a lot of time on it. Also, it is very expensive and i would not advise it if you want to make such a drastic grade change in 5 weeks. You should probably get a fellow student to tutor you, they are cheap and they will be willing to teach you in unconventional ways. Good luck.

A. What I would do is find a time when both your parents are calm and are willing to listen ( dinner). Then I would tell them that Kumon is not helping me at all, and have you (your parents) seen any improvement in my work/ grades. Then I would tell them that I would like to have a tutor ( my math teacher is my tutor) or go to another learning certer (sylvan, ect) I would tell them that If I had a tutor you (your parents and the tutor) could decide on how much to pay the tutor. From my personal expierence, it is usally only an hour long session, and about 2 days a week. I only have 2-3 worksheets that I need to compleat by the next session. I would get more one on one help, and It would probabily be cheaper. Than ask them if they will… [cont.]

Q. How Kumon can help me?
Asked by katarighe - Wed Feb 18 17:17:45 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Kumon has an independent learning method that helps people basically learn on their own (with the assistance of instructors) through many worksheets. You complete worksheets through levels of math and/or reading and gradually you obtain skills that will help you in school. I've seen a lot of success at my center and I highly recommend it. Some people don't like it because they feel they are forced or simply "too old" to be there. No one is too old to go, I have a student much much older than me. As long as you keep an open mind there, you will learn a lot.

Q. Well, I get to do Kumon for free. Because mom is a Kumon Instructor in Alaska. But I get really bored. And before mom became an instructor, I went to Sylvan. It was fun. But didn't help as much. Then when I did Kumon, It was not fun but helped a lot. Which 1 would u rather prefer.

A. I was in Kumon for a few years, and I really hated it. I hated how they timed you, etc. I hated the homework they made you take home.. but then again, I was only 11. I'm 23 now. It did hlep. I was really poor in math, and the whole summer I was doing Kumon...and when I went into my next year at school, I got the highest mark on the math test. It really helped with making me think quicker and just with basic times tables and divison. I just knew off the top of my head.. and all that basically helped when I had to take harder math programs. I dunno. I hated it, but as I got older I realized how much it helped.

A. I think that it is a great program and it really does help you. You may not realize now, but you definitely will in the future. Your parents are not making you do the work to see you suffer. Do you understand the goal of Kumon? It is not just a service for kids who are doing badly in school, but also an enrichment program to help you study above your grade level. I know a kid who is six years old and completing Kumon worksheets that have work that kids do in six grade (about eleven years old). I also know a child who is fourteen years old, going to a private boys high school, and has completed above college level math. And this is all because of Kumon. Do you do the work everyday? Do you allow yourself to get easily distracted… [cont.]

A. Yes. It's really important to get a solid grounding in Algebra. If you get help now, you should be good for the rest of high school. If you don't, you're going to flounder through the whole thing and that's going to blow your honors program. Kumon is good - go for it.

A. When you want to start any franchise business! Here are some of the questions you might want to ask the franchisor and some of the franchisees who are in it before you. 1. Can I operate this franchise in any location I want? 4. Does the franchisor give continuous training to the franchisee? And many more...

What's the going rate for private tutoring Algebra 1 and 6th grade math?
Q. My children need help with math but I do not want to take them to Sylvan, Huntington, Kumon, or the likes. Perhaps, tutoring centers are less expensive but not as good. Is my impression true? We live in Houston, TX. Thank you for your inputs.

A. My neice spent the summer between her 5th and 6th grade at one of these learning centers. Since you live in Texas, as I do, you know if you don't pass the TAKS, you don't pass. Thousands of dollars were spent that summer and she did good at the tutoring center, but when she started school again it was back to failing. She gets tutored for free at school and it does no good. I don't live in Houston, but I do live in Texas and here in East Texas, I tutor and for math or science I get $25 for 2 hours a week. Some charge by the hour at least 20 per hour. Some tutors get all the students in the same grade together and do it at the same time and charge you less. Ask at a local college in the math department, for the best tutors...also, I… [cont.]
