How much does a tutor at the Kumon Learning Center in the US get paid?
Q. I was just wondering how much they pay a new high school freshman/sophomore age tutor by the hour, probably part-time.

A. Seven dollars and seventy-five cents an hour. Also they don't tutor kids. They correct the work they do.

Is Noetic Learning similar to Kumon Math?
Q. I was going to enroll my son to Kumon Math. A friend of mine told me about Noetic Learning (www.noetic-learning.com) . She said they offer similiar program but is offering online with a fraction of the cost. Is that right?
Asked by Stacy - Sat Aug 25 23:08:53 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I did some research on the program for a friend of mine. Noetic Learning is a new but a promising program for children and parents. Worksheets are online-based, interactive and graded immediately upon submission. Every child has to take an assessment test prior to start the program. And worksheets are assigned based on a child's math skills instead of his grade level. My suggestion is to give the program a try, It is only $19 a month after all.

Is Kumon Learning Center worth sending my kids to? I seen the ad on KQED.?
Q. Is there a big difference in public school and kumon?
Asked by Jayu - Sun Apr 2 20:34:37 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Kumon helps your child speed up in basic math skills. They'll probably breeze by quick multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division skills. It'll be good for the SATs. For your kids to improve though, they must at least tolerate math; they don't have to love it, just tolerate. There are some kids who used to cry whenever they went there, but those are just the extreme cases of little kids (and most of the time they don't do homework, so they really should have nothing to cry about...)

Working at Kumon Learning center?
Q. Hi I live in Burnaby, BC and there's Kumon center near my house. I've always wanted to become a tutor there. I am 15 years old and go to grade 10. I have good grades. I'm wondering about a few things: 1. What exactly do you do there? 2. Will they hire me, I've had related experience. 3. How's the working condition? 4. How much do I get paid?

A. Go and ask them but I don't think they will hire you because you are too young and haven't even finished high school. You can tutor on your own though.

Kumon learning center?
Q. Ok well I am in grade 11 and having trouble with maths. So my dad decided to enroll me in Kumon and paid for 3 months. First day they gave me fractions? I am doing University level grade 11 maths (Quadratic functions, equations, advanced algebra) and they gave me fractions???/ Will they accelerate the levels and get to high school maths and actually help me in grade 11 and grade 12 or are they going to teach me basics? I am really worried and feel awkward because it seems like I am in a kids program. Will they help me get good marks in grade 12 or grade 11 ... or what plzz help???
Asked by Arjun W - Fri Mar 14 20:21:34 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Haha, Kumon is not the best place to go if you need immediate help with math. They will not accelerate you because they believe practice is perfect. If you need help with what you are currently learning, I suggest you to quit Kumon and join a different tutoring center. They are going to continue to teach you the basics until you can do them fast.

A. Maybe if you don't answer peoples questions so mean. Telling that person that cuts themself that they should go die?..Do you realize they might take that to heart and actually do it. I'm not kidding, a girl I knew killed herself because someone she didn't even know told her to go kill herself and she was very depressed. Think about what you say before you actually say it. But back to your question...no.

What is the best private tutoring company (ie Kumon)?
Q. What have you heard is the best tutoring company? I'm trying to find somewhere where I can learn advanced math for an affordable, high-quality education that will really help in school. I've heard of Kumon, Silvan Learning Center, and Huntingdon or something like that and others, and am not sure where to go!!

A. There probably isn t any one perfect tutoring system. You have to adjust to your child s (or self) learning style and hope he or she gets a good teacher. Sometimes like karate or ballet, you have to shop for a program which matches your budget and academic goals. I do happen to know about Kumon, so I will share that with you: Lots of people start things and never finish or worst yet, give opinions, about Kumon, with no knowledge other than what they "think" it is. It was started by a Japanese father who was a H.S. teacher and felt that his son wasn't learning "mental" math. He broke down math skills into small increments and insisted on 100% accuracy for full mastery. It is NOT meant as the only teaching method but as an after school… [cont.]

A. Kumon and Sylvan Learning Centers are two totally different things. Kumon is where you drop your child off and he does independent worksheets. There are checkers there that can help. Your child will work on each worksheet untill every answer is correct. This seemed to work well for him. My brother went to Kumon for a summer. The one in my area is only open for two days a week, so he went there twice a week for the entire summer. Kumon is a Japanese company that is run by a certified Kumon instructor who is assisted by checkers, who check the children's work. Is Kumon a good idea?
Q. I have a five year old boy who I am considering to start the maths kumon. He wants to learn more and his teachers at school says he is above ave. for numbers etc... but will it alienate him if he becomes way above average in a certain subject?

A. I think it's insane not to allow a child to reach full academic potential for fear of social alienation. Of course, it wont happen to a 5 yo anyway but for an older kid I'd just tell them to let the other kids talk & be jealous...theyll be calling the smarter one "boss" someday. That said, I enrolled my daughter in Kumon when she was in second grade because she was not grasping her number facts & place values well. It was very helpful & she is above average in math onw, 4 years later.

To those who had used Kumon or Enopi?
Q. How was it and what did you learn from it? Did you find it helpful? How's the fun level? I am currently looking into these for my kids. Thanks.

A. I remember doing it when I was quite young. I had a board with numbers, and I would put them in order and patterns, etc. I think it actually helped with my Algebra skills and number patterns. It's not very helpful for later on in math: Geometry, Algebra II, Trig... I don't think I liked it much. The teachers scared me a tad bit, and it was hard for me to understand them. How old are your kids? You should tell them about it and ask for their opinions.

A. Your mum is nuts making you do your kumon with your arm broken. I think you should talk to your kumon instructor, not the marker about this, and ask him/her for a few weeks off until your cast comes off. And, im in J as well, in the beginning of grade 9 and im not using the math yet either, so don't worry if your a few weeks behind, you won't learn any of this stuff until probably grade 10-11

Kumon - Reading or Maths for 3.5yo?
Q. I casually took my 3.5yo girl to Kumon for an assessment. From the test, she did very well in Maths (Kindly Level) I was happy but very surprised considering she only goes to preschool once a week. The supervisor was very impressed and recommended her to take the Maths. I didn't have any intention for her to do Kumon at the beginning, but now..we're thinking if it's worth-ed to start of with English, since her Maths skill is quite advance. Then later on switch to Maths, as it's too expensive to do both subjects, also she's too young to be given so much works. What do you think? Is it too early for her to learn how to read now? Is Kumon offer good Reading program? Thank you in advance

A. At the center I work at, we take kids as young two-and-a-half years old. It may seem young, but this is the best time to start them because their minds are like sponges. Thus, providing them the best time to learn and absorb things. (Think of your child always trying to mimic you or say/do something that they have seen someone else or you do.) My sister is four years old and I had my mom just start her in the program for both math and reading. She currently goes to preschool two days a week, but she loves doing the Kumon homework. It is not too much since the work is suited just for her and it is easy. The starting levels are very easy and require you to be one-on-one with your child. It is not until she gets to first grade level… [cont.]

Level I Kumon Test Preparation.?
Q. Ok. I have my level I test for Kumon coming up real fast. I need reinforcement and I'm feeling weird. I am very bad at this. Can someone please give me some sample problems that's related to what I'm learning in Lv I. A website that has a quiz on it is fine too.

A. The best thing to do is to request review from your instructor. Any good instructor will want you to be prepared for your test and will not have any problems working with you to get you what you need. The good thing about the tests is that the problems on the actual test are puled directly from the worksheet. This means that every problem on the test you have done before and it is exactly the same. If you are not comfortable with how things are, then you are not ready to take the test. Postponing the test is not a bad thing if you want to prepare yourself better for it.
