Kumon for math: Worth it if my child is already advanced?
Q. My daughter is one full grade level ahead of her class in math, and I was thinking of sending her to Kumon to keep her interested (she feels bored in class since most kids are way behind). The Kumon rep that I spoke with said they start them at a low level, and after a few *months* they should be at their grade level, and only then progressing to higher levels. Is it worth it, or is Kumon more for kids who are lagging behind?

A. I actually work at a Kumon center and participated it in myself and i think its worth it. It shouldn't take too long for your daughter to progress to the appropriate level if she is advanced. It's important to start at a level that is lower because often times the child doesn't have the strongest foundation possible and reviewing the "easy" stuff is helpful. Since Kumon is done at each child's own pace, it can be useful for kids who are behind, ahead, or somewhere in the middle. hope this helps!
