Where can I get kumon worksheets (without joining kumon center)?
Q. I am looking to get kumon worksheets (in sequence) for my kids. Where could I get it. I know there are multiple sites available who give worksheets but kumon worksheet follow an order (The order of moving to next level after another). That's the only reason I am interested in kumon worksheets. There are some initial stage workbooks but not after subtractions (in math). Is joining kumon the only way to get those worksheets?

A. Kumon is a set of services. Granted, the meat of it is the worksheets. However part of that is your determination to make the kid do the work, and by paying $100/month per subject you are given that determination (dammit, you're doing this because I paid for it!!) and checking in to the Kumon school every week forces YOU to adhere to their schedule. I'm saying "you" as the parent because you're the one who's under pressure, and you have to place that pressure on the child in their own way because it's not their money being spent. (Major rewards have worked for us.) Another "service" is their regular testing and evaluation. My oldest child is in Kumon, but not my younger three. Can someone explain what is Kumon all about?
Q. i have read the info in kumon's website and looked at some of the worksheets. seems to me just like a series of drills like we used to do in school way back when. what's the difference and what is so special about it?

A. Kumon was started by a Japanese businessman who was just helping his kids get through school. The Japanese school system is pretty much a rote-memory deal (remember exactly what the teacher said and write that on the test). The Kumon system is basically a series of very repetitive drills. It works pretty well for some folks, not as well for others. Personally I think it's pretty good, but more than a little boring. Both my kids go to Kumon "cram schools" (like after school classes) in Japan, and it has helped them, especially with math.

A. Well, I don't have any worksheets so sorry. But basically the Kumon Method is learning through repitition. Not to the point where you memorize it, but where you know what you're doing. At lower levels, 1+1 and 2x3 are to sharpen your skills so that you're insanely fast when it comes to those. And higher levels where they start to teach you hard stuff is where the method kicks in. Basically, to learn it, they'll give you an example. you follow the example step by step You fail the worksheet, they make you repeat it. Instructor teaches you how to do it. No better way to learn than through your own mistakes. Take worksheet again. Fail again. This time instructor helps you hammer in fine points. Take worksheet again. Pass. Make you repeat.… [cont.]

Q. I have a 3 year old, and two autistic 5 year old boys that I am homeschooling. No, that is not necessary, but I think it is very necessary for them. I like the Kumon First Steps workbooks, and I have all in one pre-school curriculums for our basics. But I like to have themed unites with fun videos, games, felt board stories, songs, simple arts and crafts, and some fun worksheets that are theme based and will work on basic thinking, sortings, etc. skills. As of this month, everything still has to be very simple... although they are participating, singing along, and in general doing great. Arts and crafts have to be very simple... but not simply a coloring page. I'm still not sure why, but i can only get them to do a wee little bit of… [cont.]

Q. 1st, sorry for posting it here, i just really need some help, need a place where more people can read this... i'm a 2nd yr college student, 17, i stopped studying now so that i can prepare myself for a military school both physically and mentally... i have 2 months left before i enter but i think my math skills are not that good as i was before. i took up a diagnostic test in a kumon center and i only got 24/50 in a time pressured exam. the questions are addition, multiplication , division of whole nos. and some mixed fractions. i managed to answer addition, of course but i answered the multiplication and a had a hard time answering division that took up most of my time. in short i'm not doing good. they gave me a worksheet and it has… [cont.]

A. I wouldn't enroll in a military school right now, since we stand to go to war with Afghanistan at any time. However, having said that, if I were you I would go to the library, and get some standard division sheets--just standard. Start with those and gradually advance to other things like Algebra and Trig--the test will mostly basic division-not alegbra and trig. If u need to then go back and talk to your guidance counselor--they should have some sheets u can use for free and they may be able to help you a lot. I would not enroll in KUmon, however, if that counts as military duty then do it! BTW, I work with the OBT, and we will be praying for you as you make your decision.
