management?
Q. The best thing to come out of Total Quality Management is continuous process improvement. This stimulated quality communication about processes to happen as often as possible within organizations and work groups. What are your thoughts here?
Asked by Raisins - Fri Oct 12 14:12:01 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management strategy aimed at embedding awareness of quality in all organizational processes. TQM has been widely used in manufacturing, education, government, and service industries, as well as NASA space and science programs. Total Quality provides an umbrella under which everyone in the organization can strive and create customer satisfaction at continually lower real costs that result in profitability. The thought that it is continuous must be qualified with a statement that it must be emphasized by management and exercised at all levels to be functional if quality is to improve continuously. Every time I ve implemented a TQM as CEO I have seen initial gains that were substantial, but to get… [cont.]

Why is it important to examine management from different perspectives?
Q. Why is it important to examine management from different perspectives? What do You gain from this type of examination? Think of other possible perspectives or Metaphors you could use to describe management (e.g., management is a Profession; management means being in charge ).What does your new Perspective tell you about management that adds to your understanding?
Asked by Ali - Fri Jul 13 12:21:19 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because management can be so full of themselves and forget why they are in that position. Sooner or later power goes into people's head and they forget what the business is about. For example, it is really easy for someone sitting in the headquarter of McDonald's to forget life of minimum wage people in front of a grill. Management should periodically look at the business from various perspective, and if they still decide to keep same old way of doing business at least it is an informed decision. Best wishes.

Can I use a business management degree to get in to personal management or human resource management?
Q. I am currently in school for Criminal Justice to become a Paralegal, but I am not liking that path and I want to switch degrees. Can anyone tell me if a business degree is acceptable in personal management or human resource management? Business is the only thing close enough to human resource that they offer.
Asked by Nikalyn - Mon Aug 31 12:00:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yep, most degrees are NOT confined to just one area of careers. With that business degree and depending on the school system, you might be able to teach in some of their schools.

What is the exact term to the management's sinister move of promoting an employee then sack him later?
Q. A classic example is that the management want to rid a number of employees, probably a union members, but labor laws discouraged them to sack them outrightly. Now the management will promote them to a newly created section. If these employees take the bait, this section will be closed later with all conceivable justifications and they can no longer be re-assigned by the management since their previous positions have already been occupied. This will give the management all the reasons to sack these employees.

A. That seems like an awful lot of trouble to get rid of someone. I can't imagine an employer going through all of that instead of simply firing someone.

Are the management issues today very different than early humanity or similar in nature? How should we benefit from those views?

What does the management of their campaign say about a candidate?
Q. Am I the only one tired of "questions" that are just a way of making a one-sided statement and then adding a question mark at the end? So here is a question that is not for or against any particular candidate. In terms for management - handling of budgets, the press and organizing and managing people - what does it say about a candidate? If someone runs a great campaign does it automatically mean they will be a good public servant? If a campaign is poorly run, is it a sign of things to come if that person is elected?
Asked by Borrachita - Wed Apr 9 09:23:21 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are on the right track. Generally a competent person chooses those who work for them competently. They look for someone who is knowledgeable, organized, and is a team player. When you throw politics into the situation, you have to add that the people has to support the party and the politician's platform. A campaign that is in disarray is a sign of a candidate who did not competently choose competent people. This would have long-term effects should that candidate be elected. Often-times people are admired and respected from a distance. However, once the person is observed up close the supporter becomes disenchanted - finding the candidate really is human.

What is executive management of corporate America sacrificing for the benefit of their companies and employees?
Q. Ten million people out of work and growing. Consumer spending dropped last month more than it has ever dropped. Home foreclosures at record highs and the economic outlook going forward is nothing but doom and gloom. Just like in politics, why does the executive level management only seem to be concerned about getting bailout money and their bonuses and how taking that bailout money will affect them?

A. Certainly the problems of corporate America and the problems caused by corporate America has started at the very top. Greed, corruption, competition, stock holder expectations, need to achieve forecasts, have all played a negative part in what corporate America has become. The mind set of corporate executives is truly a mystery to most people. The ungodliness that over takes this element and it's own quest for riches has been written in the scriptures over the centuries, yet it still prevails. Those who are elected to protect the people are themselves tainted by the corruption and greed by allowing laws to pass they know will benefit the executive class and deny the people. How important is height for a female in a management career?
Q. I am a petite, 5'3 100 pd. female. I've read articles that height is important if you are in high level management positions because people take you more seriously. I am considering entering a career in marketing, public relations, sales or business management. Am I going to have a hard time getting respect and authority if I am short and petite? Is height more important for men in management positions? As long as I'm intelligent and assertive, should my height matter? Can short, petite women still be successful in these types of careers?

A. People can be incredibly judgemental and make all these false assumptions about someone based on their physical appearance. So will you have a harder time than a tall woman, all other things being equal? The ridiculous answer is: probably yes. But the key is: all other things being equal. They never are. There are too many other variables. If you are intelligent and assertive, those traits will factor more heavily than just your height.

Q. I'm planning to start a home based business soon, and I recently looked into going to a local community college for the two-year business management degree futher on. So please, if you don't mind, explain the purpose of it. If I already have a home business running later, is it necessary for me to have that degree? I'll be waiting for your answers! Thanks!

A. As to whether it is necessary to have the degree, the answer is no. The only time it is truly necessary to have a degree is when you wish to be hired by an existing company that requires a degree, or when you wish to be credentialed for for some practice that requires a degree, such as medicine or engineering. The things you should get from the degree include business computing skills, business communication, a bit of human resources, possibly a good internship, and maybe some other things like marketing and job seeking skills. I would get ahold of their catalog and read the course description for every course in the curriculum. If the descriptions sound like things that could be useful to you then you might give it a shot. … [cont.]

A. I've been working in HR for about 20 years. HR is a great field, but right now, it's pretty flooded, so it's tough to break in. With a BA in HR, you would start as entry level management, but there's a large administrative component to it. Most people think that HR is mostly dealing with people, while in most cases, it's less than half of the job. A lot of time is spent pushing paper or processing information (they never seem to tell you that in school). While you're in school, try to get a part time/summer job or internship in an HR department, even in the school. If you're good, you can move up, but a lot will depend on the type of organization that you work for and how well they do in this economy. Don't go get a master's… [cont.]

How long should I give management to correct problems in apartment?
Q. I am in the middle of typing a letter to my apartment management asking them to please correct some issues such as insects/bugs, a leak under kitchen sink and the wall coming apart. I just moved in 3 weeks ago and already finding bugs everywhere... How long should I give them to correct these issues?
Asked by sweetbaby0809 - Tue Sep 30 23:29:08 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. These issues have the potential to create serious health problems for you. Therefore, the management should act immediately to resolve them (within 24 to 48 hours). You may want to give them a little extra time, but I would not give them more than 72 hours to address these issues. Be sure to send your letter "certified mail" - "return receipt" so you can prove in a court of law they received the letter. And, of course, keep a copy for your records. Best wishes and good luck.

A. Matching volunteers, including yourselves, to needs in your community would be a good way; most areas have nothing like a clearing house. for people or products. (Money-raising activities are, sorry, a dime a dozen.) You could also volunteer with smaller community service agencies to trouble-shoot their logistical bottlenecks. A transportation system to get willing volunteers to the places that need their help is a need in most towns.
