What materials/machines are need to put a photo on a canvas?
Q. What materials/machines are need to put a photo on a canvas? I have some ideas for a small business and part of it includes putting photos on canvas or different materials. What sorts of equipment should I be looking for? And no, I do not want to send it some place to be done- I want to learn how to do it. Thanks!
Asked by s e - Thu Jul 9 12:42:54 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've done it by printing on thin paper and pressing to canvas with wallpaper paste. Some papers can be peeled down to make them thinner when wet. Another way is to use Liquid Light, a liquid emulsion to paint on the canvas. You will probably find better ideas here www.alternativephotograph y.com . Check Epson and Canon professional printers if you need real production equipment. Or, google pro commercial canvas printers.

A. This is a very extensive subject and the materials used today are the same that have been used for the last half century at least Cotton Polyester Nylon Raon Acrylic Linen In the last 40 -50 years spandex took the place of rubber and that is still popular in many knits Spandex is also used in wovens now Leather took the market in the last 25 years or so - skirts and pants instead of only outerwear. That's all I can give in this small space...but you need to read more on the "history of fabrics"

A. i echo some of the suggestions already given such as blocks, white boards, picture books, and computer programs. those are all great things to have in the classroom. some more helpful things to have on hand are wooden puzzles, tangrams, file folder games for when they finish their work, graph art, stress balls to calm themselves down, beanbags, books on tape, fat crayons, fat pencils, pencil grips, incentive charts, and board games for social skills. since you have such a young group, a picture schedule will help out a lot. kids always want to know what's next on the to-do list. also, you can make a picture list of activities they can do quietly when they are done with their work. if you'll be working with a speech teacher, OT, or… [cont.]

What materials do i need to buy a roller coaster for my roller coaster project in science?
Q. My science class was assigned to do a roller coaster project. I don't know what materials I should use. We have to have one loop, and a marble has to be able to go on it and complete the roller coaster.
Asked by Sasha Leigh - Tue Mar 24 09:14:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would personally look at using something flexible and strong at the same time. If a marble has to be able to run the track you will need 2 running parallel with each other, so you will need some sort of support from one track to another, like a railway line. depending on how long the track has to run depends on what to make it from really. a longer track will require less friction to enable the marble to run further. I would recommend you put the loop near the start to make sure the marble has enough energy to make the full loop. For the supports, i would look at something like lolly-pop sticks, as they are easy to cut to the length you need and are strong enough for the support. For the actual track i would look at something round and… [cont.]

A. Easiest method would probably be distillation; as the water boils you would need some means to catch it. Depends on what you have access to, but it could be as simple as boiling salt water with some object/ surface (cloth, glass) to force the water to run down to a collection point. If you have access to a high school science lab you could see about borrowing a distillation apparatus (round bottom flask, distillation head, condenser). Just don't boil the water into a CLOSED system. It could cause the vessel to explode.

A. You don't need anything but yourself and the ground. If there was more than one of you, a berimbau would be useful, and maybe drums, but since you're alone, anywhere will do. I do recommend somewhere with soft floors though.

What materials do you need to build a balloon car?
Q. My teacher wants us to build a ballloon car, but I don't know what materials I need except a balloon. Please helpt his project is due the Jan. 30 so I need some answers.
Asked by Jessica I - Wed Jan 23 13:27:04 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A ballon car? So I'm guessing you will be blowing up a balloon that is attached to your car, and using the air inside the balloon to make the car go, correct?? If this is the case, you want your car to be as light as possible and as friction free as possible. Perhaps you could build the car out of balsa, foam, or even an erector set. You obviously want your car as light as possible to require the least amount of force (from the balloon) to propel it. The friction comes in with the wheels/axels. You want minimum friction in your axel/wheel connection and you want very little surface area contact between the floor and the wheel - in other words, dont use thick wheels. You also want to use a brand new balloon (if you are going to race it)… [cont.]

What materials will I need to create permanent chalkboard art?
Q. I'd like to draw on a chalkboard with chalk and then seal it so the art is permanent. What materials will I need? I see restaurants do it all the time and would like to create one. Thanks in advance!

A. Easy, there is spray laquer. You could remove it with a chemical remover but it is very permanent and can be wiped with water, etc. If you use a chalk fixative it can still be removed. You can buy laquer in a spray can for $3 at a craft store, Home Depot, Lowes, etc in matte or shiny finish. Rustoleum Painters Touch Spray Lacquer is one national brand that is easy to find.

Asked by Max Cola - Sat Dec 30 00:59:31 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Vehicle - a marble. The track - Should be made from a decent sized wire/rod that is easily bendable but still able to hole its shape during the exhibition. You should make 2 rails, so as to support the marble during the course. Thise way you will only have 2 points of contact between the track and the vehicle and there should be very little drag. I would also recommend ignoring any major structure for the track and just support it at the low and high points along the course. To connect the rods, you should be able to either solder them together or epoxy them. Good luck.

A. Some blocks of dense styrofoam. You can easily sculpt it with kitchen utensils, or if you want to make it a little nicer, your crafts store will usually have a few cheap sculpting tools (usually as an inexpensive little pack). All you need to do is sculpt the styrofoam into the saurcer, the neck, the hull (whatever it's called). The nacelles and uh... supports.. could also be sculpted. All you have to do is glue everything together. If the styrofoam is good, and your glue is good (anchor each attachment point with two round kitchen toothpicks), you'll have your own official Enterprise. If you prefer, you can make the nacelles and supports out of wooden dowels. It might not look as pretty, but it's probably easier. Good luck!

What are 3 common materials used for medical radiation protection?
Q. I was wondering what are 3 (or more) most common materials used in the protection of patients and hospital personnel during medical diagnostic procedures? These materials need to be able to shield against x-rays, alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. Also, is there any reputable web sources that I can get reference from? Thanks alot!
Asked by Angela - Sat Mar 24 23:48:55 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. One of the most common materials used is the lead sheet. Lead is very good at blocking all forms of radiation, and it is relatively easy to find. (Mineral ore extraction) Another is concrete, assuming that the protection specified includes protection from the equipment from outside the room itself. You need 1cm of lead, or 6cm of concrete to protect people from radiation. Not sure of any other materials though.
