How to get my math teacher to give me extra credit?
Q. I need to have a 90 average to prevent getting in trouble from my parents and to stay in the AP program. My scores for math are: 76, 90, 90, 90, 76 I really would like some extra credit to help improve something from those scores. How can I convince a math teacher to give me extra credit? What are some ideas I can suggest to the teacher that I can do in return for extra credit? Thanks.

A. You could ask for a grade exchange. The teacher gives you the extra points you need now, but you pay them back next semester even if that results in your letter grade being lowered. I don't allow this often, but I have done this for students who have a demonstrated work ethic. Is your semester over? Don't you still have a final exam? Show some real improvement over the long term. Don't let your parents take you out of an AP program. College/University admissions want to see students take a challenging course load. Also, you need to prepare yourself for college by taking the classes you will learn the most from. One not so perfect grade in an AP class will not put you out of the running for admission (your GPA will barely change) because… [cont.]
