The term can also be used to refer to the result obtained after performing the process. HistoryMain article: History of measurementThe word measurement comes from the Greek "metron," meaning limited proportion. The history of measurements is a topic within the history of science and technology. MetreThe metre (U.S.: meter) was standardized as the unit for length after the French revolution, and has since been adopted throughout most of the world. StandardsLaws to regulate measurement were originally developed to prevent fraud. However, units of measurement are now generally defined on a scientific basis, and are established by international treaties. In the United States, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a division of the United States Department of Commerce, regulates commercial measurements. In the United Kingdom, the role is performed by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What is the best way to express the diameter measurement and Why? Q. Hi, please help me with this question on measurement techniques. In trying to measure the diameter of a wire, a student made the following readings, 2.38 mm, 2.41 mm, 2.39 mm, 2.40 mm, 2.42 mm What is the best way to express the diameter measurement and WHY? (2.40 +/- 0.02) mm or (2.40 +/- 0.01) mm? Asked by Maria N. - Sat Feb 21 08:30:00 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Since the mean of the reading is 2.40 and the max errors were +0.02 and -0.02 so express it as (2.40+/- 0.02)mm... "Standing waves" are set up in an antenna feedline if the antenna does not present a pure resistance to the transmitter at its designed output impedance. If the match is perfect, the VSWR is said to be "1:1" or the feed is "flat". There are various ways of determining the match by measurement of VSWR. It gives an indication of how much of the transmitter power is being radiated, and how much is being reflected back towards the transmitter. It is this reflection that sets up the standing waves (i.e. voltage and current maxima and minima) along the line. The voltage highs were more convenient to measure. If the designed output impedance is 50 ohms (very common these days), and the antenna presents a load resistance of 75 ohms (or 25 ohms)… [cont.] Answered by Technobuff - Wed Jun 24 08:50:15 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "measurement" Brand Marketers Still Reliant on Click-Throughs to Measure
