Is missing one day of classes in college a big deal?
Q. I start college next week and I'm going every Tuesday and Thursday. I have five classes each day. My family is planning a vacation for Sept 18-22 and I would be missing the fourth Tuesday of my classes. I'm so scared that I'm going to miss something crucial if I miss a class. Would it be a big deal to miss one day of classes? I'm freaking out. I really want to go to the beach with my family. I haven't been on vacation in a long time. But I'm terrified to miss one day of school. Am I overreacting?

A. It shouldnt be a problem. Have someone get any notes for you. It might not be a bad idea to mention it to the professor. They are usually understanding. The only problem you could have if there was a test on that day. Most tests are announced in a syllabus at the beginning of the semester. You could have trouble making it up depending on the school's and professor's policies.

What bones are whole skeleton fossil exhibits usually missing?
Q. For instance, I saw this whole bear skeleton exhibit along with a whole saber toothed cat skeleton exhibit. But I noticed that there was a missing bone that should have been where the rib cages are. I suspect that the sternum of both are missing, but am not sure if this is common at all. Is it common for whole animal skeletons to be missing the sternum? Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate it.
Asked by unknown - Thu Dec 3 01:43:59 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If it's a "whole skeleton", then the meaning of the word 'whole' would literally mean nothing is missing. With reasonably complete skeletons, there's no generalization possible about which bones are likely to be missing, although the smaller ones from the extremities have the best chances of getting lost; toes, fingers, tail bones. Given their number, missing ribs would hardly be surprising. Other than that, anything could be missing for some reason or other.

How to people missing the lower half of their body use the bathroom, serious question?
Q. People such as Johnny Eck and the guy from the Jerry Springer show. I have always been curious about human deformities and amputations and can't seem to come to a conclusive answer. They are missing the proper anatomy to excrete waste, so how does it work?
Asked by Andy - Tue Mar 18 15:30:00 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. A question almost exactly like this (referring to the same dude from Springer) showed up about 3 weeks ago. I'll give you the same answer I gave then: There is a very radical procedure called a hemicorporectomy in which amputation occurs above the hips. Generally, as much of the digestive tract as possible is retained, but usually the external genitalia are not. People who have undergone such radical procedures also have a colostomy and urostomy, in which the large intestine and ureter (respectively) are connected directly to the skin of the remaining lower abdomen. An external pouch is affixed to collect any waste. You can do a Wikipedia search on "colostomy" or "urostomy" for more information.

How to deal with missing work because of illness?
Q. I have a problem that whenever I start a new job, I take more sick days than normal. My immune system isn't very strong, and I am highly succeptible to respiratory infections, and I get really sick. I don't want to go to work feeling so bad, but I feel just as guilty missing when everyone else seems to just push through sickness. Does anyone else have this problem?

A. Ugh...I am that way too! I feel so bad a lot of the time. I feel like everyone looks down at me, like I'm weak or something. (I have a bad immune system too) so yeah...I can't really answer this question...but good luck.

How do you stop yourself from missing someone?
Q. In order to stop yourself from missing someone, I've heard that you had to go out and have fun. I've done that, multiple times. I love going out with my friends and laughing. I always look forward to it. Then when I come home, a few hours later, the pain comes back from missing him. I've also heard that you should just give it time. It's been about a year, and I've gone back and forth between missing him and not missing him at all, but it always goes back to missing him. Is there anything else I can do?
Asked by Vanessaluv8 - Sun Jul 5 16:19:25 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can ALLOW yourself to miss him. It's natural. What you have to do is be realistic. Remember and be grateful foe the good in the relationship. Smile when you are remem bering. Take away the sadness and pain of it.

Why does the missing Madeleine McCann case get so much media time, when there are thousands of others missing?
Q. Not that my heart doesn't go out to Madeleines parents, but i just wonder why their case is still being talked about 2 years later, when there are children going missing every single day that we never even hear about, and there are children who have been missing for 5 years, who we also don't hear about? What makes their story different?
Asked by PuppyLove - Thu Aug 6 00:28:07 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are several reasons: 1. She is a cute little white girl and they get much more attention than boys and non-whites when they go missing 2. Her parents are attractive looking people but they don't come across as being likeable so because of that, they must have had something to do with it 3. The disappearance occurred in a foreign country at an upscale resort 4. She was taken out of her hotel room while her parents were only a short distance away

How do you deal with missing your children?
Q. I've spoken to them and seen recent pictures of them, but I just want to hold them!!! I've tried taking my mind off missing them with various activities (including Y!A) but now I'm just literally counting down the hours until I can actually feel them in my arms! Suggestions? I don't know what to do!
Asked by Kendall. - Thu Jul 16 17:55:47 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depends on how long you are away from your children. If it for a weekend, then I would suggest getting together with friends. If it is for a summer, then I would suggest taking some college courses (nothing wrong with bettering yourself!). If you are deployed and are away from your children for a year, I would suggest taking up reading.

How come it is called Missing Persons Department opposed to Missing People Department?
Q. Why on street signs, do they refer to people as persons. In addition, when someone goes missing they are reported to the Missing Persons Department. Why is it not called Missing People Department?
Asked by aero847.youtube - Mon Mar 9 19:18:32 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. An individual is a "missing person." You call to report a "missing person." That person is then sought as an individual. "People" is a collective noun. No one calls to report a group of missing people. It's about missing individuals, hence the name of the department, which is correct.

How do I replace a missing button in my car?
Q. I just got a 1998 Nissan Altima GXE, and it is missing a button for the radio. I think it is the button to search down rather than up? It is not a big deal by any means, but if replacing it is simple and cheap, why not go ahead and do it? It doesn't look like anything behind the button is chipped or anything, it just lacks the actual button. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to replace/fix this?

A. i own a shop and try at any good junk yard they may have an old radio for one of those that doesn't work ,and they will probably give you a radio button for it,they usually will on the small stuff, but that shouldn't be too hard to find one for ,good luck with it hope this helps.

What in dentistry is it called to replace a missing tooth?
Q. What is the term used in dentistry to replace a missing tooth? I had a root canal done on a tooth, and it was never finished, the tooth was left hollow and it recently just broke off and only a small peice up close to the gum line is broken. It is my left front tooth. It's very unattractive, and I need to get it fixed. Would this procedure be called a crown, a cap or what exactly is involved in cosmetic dentistry to replace a missing tooth? Is it expensive?
Asked by I color outside the lines - Tue May 30 09:32:21 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Now that the tooth is decayed you have several options 1. Crown Lengthening and crown; Since there the body (coronal portion)of the tooth is gone. You can have a procedure done to actually remove bone to expose healthy root structure(usually no more than 2mm). this procedure allows the dentist finish a crown on the health tooth structure. This procedure is destructive to bone but is usually chosen by the patient who is not ready to loose a natural tooth. 2. Bridge; You can have the tooth removed and have a bridge placed. This is an option provided that it is not the last tooth in the arch. so there has to be a tooth in the front and the back, to allow the bridge to be placed. 3. You can have tooth removed and have an implant… [cont.]

A. Well now it's slightly off balance. If the manufacture only need 6 bolts, than that is what they would of used. I have seen all the bolts fly off an engine from vibrations and it's not a pretty sight.

Q. my girlfriend's gone on holiday for two weeks and, i know it sounds a bit pathetic but i miss her so much. i have no way of contacting her, she has no laptop with her and her phone won't work out there. how can i take my mind off of missing her and make time go faster?

A. Just keep busy with other things. Use the time to do things that you don't do while she's around. Go out with friends, watch things that she doesn't like to watch (sports, movies she doesn't like, etc). That's what my husband does when I go away and he really enjoys it. It won't make you stop missing her altogether but it will pass the time in a worthwhile way.

Q. I'm going on my first plane trip & bought really cute purple luggage & packed all new clothes I bought just for the trip. I'm really worried about my luggage going missing though! does this happn a lot?
Asked by C - Fri Jun 30 01:33:33 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The chances of it happening are slim. Connections increase the risk of bags being delayed, so try to fly non-stop when you can if that is an option from the airports you are going to and from. Never pack anything of value or electronics. Always put toiletry items in your carry on as well as a change of clothes. In your luggage you also need to put a copy of your itinerary and contact information at your home and destination so that if for some reason your tags are seperated from the bag, you can be notified. I served my time in the Dungeon of Baggage Service and it happens the most when you have a connection and one of the flights is delayed or if you are connecting bewteen airlines, say you depart Philedelphia on Delta and fly to… [cont.]

Q. Hi, I am missing a few channels on my freeview box since the digital switchover. They are channels such as ITV, 4 and e4. I have tried searching through the channels as if I had only just got the box a few times but it hasn't worked. How can I retrieve the missing channels? Thanks.

A. I don't think they're transmitting in your region yet. That's why autoprogramming your TV set didn't pick up the channels. Now if you can't get it...you can't get it. If your friends CAN get it, then YOU need some serious work on your aerial system.
