How do I repair a hole in modal fabric?
Q. I recently bought a tank top made out of 100% modal. Very thin material. Where the tag was attached there are now 2 very small holes in the fabric. I'm afraid with wearing it and washing it, the holes will get bigger. Any idea how to repair it?
Asked by unknown - Wed May 9 20:47:33 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. try clear nail polish on the inside of the top . it will not take a lot to much will be noticeable . this should at least stop the spread the only way to hide the holes would be to get some material to match it and cut a very small piece to glue in place good luck

How well does dye work on 60% cotton, 40% modal?
Q. I have a guaze knit top that's a salmon color. I'd like to dye it red. It's 60% cotton, 40% modal. I was thinking of using a RIT liquid dye. I'm not sure how well modal dyes. Do you think this will work? How many times do you think I'll have to dye it to get a true red?
Asked by skyblue - Thu Apr 5 11:51:12 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It should dye ok. Make sure you soak it in a bucket that gives the sweater a lot of room to move around, and add salt to the dye bath. You might have to dye it a few times.

How might you determine if inter-modal competition is sufficient?
Q. How might you determine if inter-modal competition (competition by other modes of transportation) is sufficient to discipline the sole provider of rail transportation between a coal mine and its customers?
Asked by Bob - Tue Aug 26 22:08:43 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think main measure could include substitution effect in methods of delivery. If rail-road start to loose share of delivery then it really is sufficient (though total transported volume dynamics should be considered too). Another question could emerge here - degree of sufficiency, e.g. speed of reactions in alternative transportation methods and share distribution dynamics, price reactions, etc.

A. Don't touch models direct with a bargepole. They have been "outed" numerous times including the Sunday mail and BBC's watchdog. If a "proper" agency accepts you on their books they will normally send you to some of their preferred photographers to get some shots for your initial book. You may have to pay the photographer for these but often not or the agency will pay and then take it from your first jobs. check out for information on modelling and agencies in the UK.

What are the differences between the Modal, Accusative, and Dative cases in German?
Q. I am currently in German III, taking German IV next year, and I keep forgetting what the differences are between these cases. Thank You.
Asked by Jake - Sun Mar 1 15:49:00 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The accusative case is used for the object of a sentence. "The cat wears a hat" (a hat would be in the accusative because the hat is being worn.) The dative is used for the indirect object. "He gave her a present" "her" would be in the dative because he gave the present to her. I don't think modal is a case. Modal verbs are words like: want to (wollen) should (sollen) etc

A. Double check your terminology. Modal refers to the key/ mode a piece is performed in, major, minor, mixolidian etc Chest voice is the "heavy" part of the low/middle of your singing voice. "Head" voice is the light part of your singing voice as you move into your middle/upper range and really is the prefered lighter sound when singing in choir. There are also your falsetto and whistle which are in the extreem of your high registers when singing. choir director hey, again! I just looked up "modal voice" out of curiosity- that is the scientific term for "phonation" or the sound we make when we say a vowel and hold it like ahhh; it is a term, and we definately sing on the vowel, but it has little or no connection to the musical… [cont.]

why is modal harmony less predictable that functional harmony?

Does the stability of a specific modal tone correspond to the role of that tone in its parallel major scale?
Q. Since the C major scale tones can be listed from strongest to weakest: 1(C) - 5(G) - 3(E) - 6(A) - 2(D) - 4(F) - 7(B), would the tones of the D dorian mode (for example) be listed strongest to weakest : 7(C) - 4(G) - 2(E) - 5(A) - 1(D) - 3(F) - 6(B)? Also, what kind of rule does theory suggest for resolving tones within a mode?
Asked by tyd - Wed Jan 7 21:55:58 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Rather than the idea of strongest vs. weakest, I think of notes as having more or less amount of tension (which I think is what you mean by "stability") relating to the chord at hand, and not just the overall mode. And tension has to do with dissonance. It doesn't make any sense that C would be the "strongest" tone in D dorian. By the same reasoning that C is strongest in C major, D would be strongest in D dorian. Why do you consider the note B in the C Major scale as weakest? I would consider B a strong note because of the tension and how it wants to go towards C. It depends what you mean by strong and weak. Perhaps "most resolved" and "least resolved" would be more accurate terms. However, B is a resolved note in a C Major 7… [cont.]

A. Modal is a bio-based fiber made by spinning reconstituted cellulose from beech trees. It is about 50% more hygroscopic, or water-absorbent, per unit volume than cotton is. It is designed to dye just like cotton, and is color-fast when washed in warm water. Modal is essentially a variety of rayon. For best results, please wash this garment with care. Hand wash or machine wash in cold on delicate cycle. Tumble dry low/cool, or lay flat to dry. Textiles made from Modal do not fibrillate, or pill, like cotton does, and are resistant to shrinkage and fading. They are smooth and soft, more so than even mercerized cotton, to the point where mineral deposits from hard water, such as lime, do not stick to the fabric surface. Like pure cotton,… [cont.]
