When doing monologues whats the best way to stand?
Q. I don't want to look like a robot. I usually have a hard time looking normal while standing up doing a skit or monologues. Any tips on making it look " natural " and the way my eyes move around too.

A. It all depends on what monologue you are performing. However, you still do not want to always stand in one spot. It bores the judges to death. (unless of corse you are auditioning for a robot or inanimate objects) And yes, pick a spot in the back of the room to look at when you are performing your audition piece. The more you stay focused on that spot the more real and believable you look. From feedback from my Actor's Studio teacher, she said that when you focus on one spot and stay calm the judges will focus on you more. But don't whatever you do, stand in a quarter position. It annoys the heck out of the judges, they want to see YOU not anything else. And don't point to yourself, ugh, they don't like that. Show them through your… [cont.]

This is what they want: One 'serious' monologue from a 20th Century play One contrasting piece after 1980 They have also asked for a Shakespearean piece but I have sorted that one for myself. A. Here are just a few that I'm fond of: 1. 'Krapp's Last Tape' by Samuel Beckett. I find the section that begins 'Just been listening to that stupid bastard...' particularly interesting. 2. Alan Bennett's 'A Chip in the Sugar' from his 'Talking Heads' series 3. The opening section of Tennessee Williams' 'The Glass Menagerie' (although you may well have to change your accent for that one). Hope these help.

What are some good short monologues that I can memorize to break the monotony?
Q. I'm looking for some monologues I can spout off for no reason. Humorous, random, and scary (anything that would creep you out if spoken in a growl, bigger category than you think) monologues are the best. A few examples are the monologue at the beginning of Tool's "Third Eye": (funny/random) "Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is simply energy condensed into a slow vibration; that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather." The "V" monologue in V for Vendetta is another one, and the first of the Cortana Letters: "... There will be no more sadness, no more anger, no more envy. … [cont.]

Why was it a violation that Jay Leno wrote his own monologues during the writer's strike?
Q. I read that it was a violation of WGA terms that Jay Leno wrote his own monologues during the writer's strike. Why is this?
Asked by justalldigital - Sat Jul 4 14:01:31 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Probably because the original union agreement took away his right to do so. Jay was required to obey Union agreements, whether they were striking, or not. Union labor means the employees Rep's dictate the terms of the employment - not the person paying for the job to get done. Jay could possibly, dump the union workers, and hire non union writers, but, if he did, every other union employee working for him would strike too - if they weren't already in support of the writers. Such is freedom when one is forced to employ union labor.

Looking for some monologues for drama class?
Q. I need one two-and-a-half to three-minute monologue and two thirty-second monologues. Best answer to the person that gives me the actual monologues, not just and a site, and makes sure that the monologues are from a published contemporary (not Shakespeare) play. Thanks! It HAS to be from a play, and an actual published play, not just some stand-alone monologue someone wrote when they were bored.

A. I know you said not to just give you a website, but I just found this website like 2 days ago and I think its the best website I have found so far. Whenever I google, I find boring plays or old movie monologues. I feel this website is very contemporary and has a lot of plays... and there is a link for under 1 minute monogloues. I was going to copy and paste one for you but Ihave no idea what your looking for. There are dramas and comedies and serio-comedies. Just look at the website, I think you will like it.

The title of the monolouge is There's Got to be a Better Way from 111 One Minute Monolouges. I have performed it 3 years ago and am still getting comments on the material. Where can i get good monologues on the internet?
Q. I need 2 contemporary monologue that could work for stage and film. does anyone know a good site for them or a good book full of monologues? please help ! thanks.
Asked by Paiigers - Tue Aug 25 13:23:43 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are dozens of monologue books out there, tailored to actors based on age, sex, even type. Just search "monologue books" at Amazon and you'll get plenty of results. A "good monologue on the internet" is a paradox. You want to do monologues from published plays, which can be difficult to find online because people want to make money off that.

A. Has there ever been a monologue that long in a movie? That's even long for play standards, and movie time is like dog years compared to plays. Typically it's best to avoid movie monologues because they're way too short and associated with an actress who everyone knows. You really couldn't find anything you liked in a play? There are female monologues in "Talking With...," "'Dentity Crisis," "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea," "The Marriage of Bette and Boo," "Reckless," "The Woolgatherer," et al et al.

A. I have done some research on places on the internet where you can find monologues and scripts of all types, including duet acting scripts, teen monologues, monologues for girls, women, men, comical monologues, short comedic monologues, etc. I also answer a lot of questions about how to effectively memorize a monologue or your lines in general as well as about common mistakes that actors often make while performing a monologue for an audition. On this page on my site for new and aspiring actors, you will find all that information including links to the types of monologues you are looking for. Good luck in your audition. Tony
