A. 12 * 2 / (-8) =24 / (-8) = -3 Work multiply and divide from left to right. Only look at the two numbers you are working with at the present time. So first we multiply +12 times +2 Positive * Positive = Positive +12 * +2 = +24 Now our problem looks like this +24 / (-8) Positive / Negative = Negative So +24 / -8= -3 --- Basically your rules are if you are multiplying or dividing integers. If they both have the same sign (whether its positive or negative) then your answer will be positive. If you are multiplying or dividing two numbers with different signs then your answer will be negative. A. for the first sample,(i'm assuming that g/l is grams/liter) 5 g/l * 4 micro liters the two liters should be of same kind.. so, we convert 5g/l into 5g/1000micro liters since 1000micro liters is equal to 1 liter, this is okay.. we get: 0.0005g/microliter * 4micro liters when you multiply them, it is like this: 0.0005g 4microliters --- x --- 1microliter 1 since there is a microliter above and below, they will cancel out.. the remaining unit will only be grams.. so, the answer will be 0.0002g.. for the second, there are no same unit with different kind. the one is for mass while the other is for volume so, you just divide them including the units. you will get 5micrograms/microliter.. the micro part is like saying x10^6.. you can… [cont.]

I remember answering this for somebody (Maybe also in your class) The reason that multiplying by 0 is not mentioned in multiplying by 0 is that theis would result in both sides equals 0, in whch case the inequality will not hold. The reason that division by 0 is not mentioned is that division by 0 us not defined in mathematics.

Ok, my calculator is still in my locker, but im positive that i've got it down...first you type whatever number the numerator is (top #) and then if you look around above the number pad until you find a button that says ABC on it, press it and what looks like a comma will appear then all you do is put in whatever number the denominator is (bottom #) ...go on and press divide or multiply, then type in the second fraction using the ABC button too

A. the purpose of simplifying is to remove radicals from the denominator. when you think about it , dividing by an irrational number to obtain an estimate is more difficult than dividing that irrational number by a rational number. remember that ( x)( x) = x, if x >= 0 and ( x)/( x)=1 and multiplying by 1 gives you the same number. 5*3* (5*3) [ a* b = (ab)] =15 15 3/2 2 =3/2 2 * 2/ 2 [multiplying by 2/ 2 = multiplying by 1] = 3 2 / (2*2) = (3 2)/4

In addition and subtraction, you should visualize a line of negative numbers on the left and positive numbers on the right with zero in the center. A. Because direction of the numbers has changed also. If you move along the numerical line as follows: - 5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... <---0 ---> you can notice that if you move in the positive number upstream (to the right), the farther the number from zero, the greater the number respect to the left one. If you move in the negative numbers downstream, you will notice that farther from zero, the opposite applies: the left number is lower that the one at the right.
