North Dakota bans abortion by defining the beginning of life?
Q. North Dakota's House has approved a measure that would essentially ban abortion in the state. It gives a fertilized human egg the legal rights of a human being, So does life begin at fertilization? If so then fertility clinics would become banned as well. Because they discard more fertilized eggs than abortion clinics. Also, they FREEZE fertilized eggs for later implantation. Isn't that cruel and unusual punishment? I'd like to hear from pro-choice and anti-choice sides alike.

A. Source please. :) North (and possibly South too, I can't remember) Dakota have had several ballot measures in election years to attempt to severely restrict or ban abortions. All of them have been defeated. If you're saying they're planning another one, I doubt it will pass either. And no, life does not begin at fertilization/conception because fertilization/conception does not guarantee a live birth. A fertilized egg is a *potential* life, no more. Such laws regulate women to little more than human incubators. If a fertilized *egg* is given rights that supersede the mother, how long before mothers start getting charged with a crime for miscarriages, which is how most fertilized eggs end up? Oh she drank too much caffeine, she didn't… [cont.]
