how much calories am i burning with these exercises?
Q. Hi, I have started writing and couting my calories and want to ask for your help concerning my exercises. All of these I do at home as it is difficult to find time to go out. Please help me understand these: 1) DDR dancing ~30 minutes says ~300 calories burned. I can believe because I sweat a lot. 2) Exercise bike ~30 minutes says ~60 calories burned. Hard to believe, because feels like i worked hard. 3) Can I get some kind of a educated estimate for: a) ab workout routine (5 exercises) 15 minutes total b) weight lifting (~ 15 kg) usually 10 times each hand, then break. Maybe 15 minutes too. I just need the numbers to add to my daily calculation of total calories burned by exercises. thank you!

A. Try registering on www.thedailyplate.com. They have calorie estimates for almost any activity. Just put in your daily workout on your plate for the day and it'll tell you how much you burned. FYI, burning calories is a function of how much you weight and how tall you are. They best, most accurate way to know is invest in a heart rate monitor. You can get a good one for as little as $30 on ebay. If it's less than that, it's probably not good

Variables in all exercises represent nonzero real numbers.?
Q. Variables in all exercises represent nonzero real numbers.Write all answers without negative exponents. Evaluate the expression W-4/W (exponent6) I mean W-4 (W minus 4) I mean W-4 (W minus 4)
Asked by Kisha - Wed Jul 8 13:48:13 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Do you mean W - 4 (subtract 4 from W), or do you mean W^-4 (W raised to the -4th power)? If you mean W^-4, then: W^-4 / W^6 = W^(-4 - 6) = W^-10 = 1 / W^10 EDIT: You cannot evaluate an expression unless you know the value of the variable. You can only simplify it. Since you didn't give a value for W, it cannot be evaluated. Also, it is unclear what you are dividing by W^6. Are you dividing only 4 by W^6? Or are you dividing (W - 4) by W^6? If you want to divide the difference by W^6, then you need parentheses: (W - 4) / W^6 When you write W - 4/W^6, then you are only dividing 4 by W^6.

Free weights - Cardio exercises question?
Q. Hi there, I'm 17 and working out at home. I really don't have the time to go to a gym (but have been a member until some months ago) at the moment, so I'm working on my own. I have some light free weights, a treadmill (lucky me!) and also exercise in cardio and flexibility. What I want is to build a specific type of body, not too muscular like Arnie or Sly, but still strong, outlined and like a 17 year old, lighter version of H. Jackman. I would like advice on how to use the weights (exercise types, speed, strength, set numbers), what other exercises I can try (pushups etc.) and if you are kind enough some diet suggestions. :D :D About me: I'm 175 cm, weight 77 kgs, I'm light framed, and just have a little excess tummy. A. woah if you lost 6 inches on your waist and increased bust and hips, you would look pretty unnatural. more like betty boop than a real woman. However, a grat wist trimming exercise is to do situps bringing alternate elbows to the opposite knee - so you're twisting as you do them. Also hula - hooping is a good one! xxx

Is it inapropriate to allow a 5 year old to scratch lottery tickets?
Q. My sister, who is financially secure and very responsible takes my 5 year old son one day a week while I work. Part of their routine is to sit at a donut shop and scratch lottery tickets (approx $20 worth). I never gave it much thought and was glad my son was exercising his brain matching numbers, etc. My sister told me that a mother in the donut shop approached her and scolded her for being a bad "parent", siting the dangers of gambling. She mentioned there's a reason you have to be 18 to buy tickets. I was horrified because I consider myself to be a responsible parent and my sister a responsible caregiver. A. There is no harm in letting him scratch a few tickets. He's just joining in the fun and no doubt learning that not every ticket is a winner. I would say the reason you have to be over 18 to buy tickets is because you're not considered responsible enough if you are under that age. The last thing you would want is your son spending his birthday money on scratch cards!! My two children aged 11 and 13 have often done scratch cards for me and they have learnt more often than not you are not a winner because neither of them would even consider asking me to get them a scratch card if they had to pay for it with their own money. If anything he is learning they are a waste of money and I'm sure this would put him off gambling rather than… [cont.]

A. e is the usual base for log, so if y = log x, then x = e^y. So, take e to the power of each logarithm result. For example : log x = 2.30258509299405 x = e^2.30258509299405 x = 2.71828182845905 ^ 2.30258509299405 x = 10

A. It's demonstrated that the more effective way of increasing your "good cholesterol" or HDL is exercising, as its produced by your own body and there arent really any types of food that can increase it.

Q. After receiving my diagnosis I'm worried about exercising and the risk of stroke, but need to so that I can lower my numbers.
Asked by justme - Sat Feb 21 11:41:52 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I don't know your full medical history, but provided that the exercise is not too intense, it'll be far more helpful to get mild to moderate exercise on a regular basis. Small vessel disease predisposes you to thrombotic strokes, caused by the formation of clots in the cerebral arteries. Thrombotic strokes usually occur in a person with high lipid levels, but exercise would reduce those lipid profiles. Thus, exercise in your circumstance should help, unless otherwise noted by your doctor, who has a more complete history of your health. The type of stroke that you're worried about in terms of exercise is hemorrhagic stroke, where vessels rupture in response to hypertension. Those type of strokes usually occur in people with other… [cont.]

How long does it take to reduce your blood pressure numbers from high to normal?
Q. I had high blood pressure about a year ago but managed to lose 50 pounds and lower my bp. I just moved and got out of the habit of my normal exercise routine. I went to the dr. this morning and my bp was 154/107. (yes, very high, I know) My doc wants me back in 2 weeks for another bp test. If I get back into a regular routine of walking 5 days a week again, can I drop my numbers in a couple weeks?

A. Quit smoking, cut the salt and black pepper, eat oatmeal with cinnamon, walk if you are able.

I am currently dieting and wonder if exercise is giving me lower "loss" numbers?
Q. I am currently dieting and wonder if exercise is giving me lower "loss" numbers? I lost 2 lbs. this week but I already have noticed my clothes getting loose. Is it because I might be building muscle and since muscle weighs more it seems on the scale I am losing less than I actually might be?

A. You've got it exactly right. When you begin working out if you've been dieting for a while, you'll find a tape measure to be a much better indicator of your success. 6 months ago I began calorie counting, and I dieted my first 15lbs away over a period of about 3-4months (I'd been on and off with it.. spring break, vacations, and such slowed the weightloss down). At the beginning of June, I started exercising and have since lost about 10lbs and a LOT in terms of inches. Went from a size 6 to a loose 4! It really does make all of the difference in the world.

What is the highest number of calories you ever found yourself burn in a day?
Q. I'm curious how my numbers stack up against other athletes (and regular people). I plugged my exercise for today into a calculator and found that I burned around 4500 calories, although my highest number ever was 5000 when I ran a half marathon. What is your number?
