Do muslims go into a mosque when they hear the adhan?
Q. I'm a little confused about this aspect of Muslim prayer. I know Muslims are supposed to pray five times per day. In NYC, I often see Muslim people lay their prayer mat out on the sidewalk and pray there. But, in Arabic countries, what exactly happens when the adhan is given? When they hear the adhan, do Muslims lay out their prayer mats and pray whereever they are, or do they go to the mosque, and pray there? Thanks for any help--

A. If it's convenient to get to the Mosque, then yes, they would. Otherwise, most people pray in their office, or on the street.

Do you think muslims deserve special considerations in the US?
Q. Like foot baths in airports, special toilets for muslims, Public schools for Muslims taught in Arabic(NYC). Muslim dorms, prayer rugs There is no such thing as a public catholic school. Catholic schools are privately funded by the church and tuition charges.
Asked by Linda S - Fri Aug 3 20:42:27 2007 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They don't need special considerations above anyone else. I really have to agree, if any legal aliens want to be part of America, become American. Otherwise, stay in your own country. Irritates me immensely for any of them to cry when someone does not want a foreign flag flown on American soil. If you are so mad at Americans for the way you are treated, why did you come here? or stay here? You are most welcome to become one of us, but do not try to take over our country with your country's customs. I'm truly sorry for the way some are treated, and we who are christians, will make you feel welcome, but you left your country...big word LEFT so leave it behind. You CHOSE America, we didn't force it on you.

Who actually believes that the Muslims have always hated Jews?
Q. Do you believe that there was no indiginous Jewish population living in the Middle East before the European Jews arrived? Did you know that there was a flourishing Muslim civilization (Andaluz) in Spain for 800 years where Jews held positions of power and were highly respected? Did you know that in NYC Orthodox Jews and Muslims live and thrive in the same neighborhoods? Often Muslims choose to move into an Orthodox Jewish area because they consider it more familiar and safer for their children. These are just 3 examples that I know of offhand,

A. Don't forget the Ottoman Empire -- they welcomed al-Andalus' Jews when the Christian Reconquista and Inquisition forced them out. The irony is that, historically, the safest places for Jews were in Muslim countries and Germany. Unfortunately, things changed that never should have.

Q. I'm American, I'll defend my country if I have to---but I will not just sit there and listen to the kind of nonsense, uneducated abuse people throw at each other about muslims. First of all, you can try to find this one in the major Italian newspapers if you can read Italian like I do: the former Italian president made this statement when he left office: "9/11 was orchestrated by the MOssad(Israel)and CIA(United States), and the intelligence communities throughout the world know about this"--so why would anyone throw stones against the muslim or defend the Jews? Prejudice against Arabs and Muslims in the US. How is this justified?
Q. Check out this article: I'll summarize it here, A woman that has lived in the US since she was 3 years old tried to start a public charter school in Brooklyn. The school would follow the curriculum typical to all other public schools but would offer classes in Arabic as well as in English (many schools in NYC offer classes in other languages, the article says there are 67 in the city) and would focus on multiculturalism and religious tolerance. It would be entirely secular and only teach issues relating to religion in social studies, just like all other public schools in the state. A. I didn't bother to read your article, but in my case I was convinced of your point of view anyway so it was redundant. Imbeciles who dismiss hundreds of millions of people based on the actions of ultra-violent and fanatical fringe elements are intellectually lazy at best. It's tantamount to demonizing WASP men based on the acts of Timothy McVeigh, or Christians based on the demented rantings of people like Pat "Homosexuals want to come into churches and disrupt church services and throw blood all around and try to give people AIDS and spit in the face of ministers" Robertson.

A. Good for you, sweetie. In all the Muslim "anger," have you heard a single Muslim actually deny that what the Pope quoted (even though he specifically said the quotation did not represent his own opinion) was absolutely true? Islam IS evil and inhuman! They aren't angry because the Pope lied about Islam--they're angry because he told the truth! And so they protest by burning churches and shooting nuns. Is that supposed to prove that Islam is peaceful and humane?

Did you notice Obama did NOT mention the four Muslims arrested for the plot to bomb a US military plane and a NYC Synagoge? All four of them were prison converts to radicalized Islam!! How does England cope with the rising muslim population?
Q. Quite often the media shows the influx of radical muslims coming to England. What really got my attention is the lack of respect they displayed. Some were defiant. Do you not think England is setting itself up for a blood bath? Look what happened in France with the riot. There is an Arab living in London that emails me quite often. He has a sense of entitlement to that country but does not like whites. Why is England allowing more and more muslims to enter? That is akin to letting your enemies inside your home in the name of being open minded or tolerant. What is tolerant about having bombs going off? Tell those in NYC about being open minded! A. I understand and empathise with what you are saying. However, we can't start banning people from entering the country or removing people based on grounds of race or religion. The levels of immigration which we are experiencing and the contempt that certain sectors of society show towards our country is offensive. I don't know where it will all end. I suspect that the immigration problem won't be stopped and will continue until our economy and standard of living meets that of the developing countries from where so many migrants originate. We are losing (or have lost) the struggle to maintain our British identity by being supremely tolerant to those who exploit tolerance and generosity.
