Obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when a person, object, or service is no longer wanted even though it may still be in good working order. Obsolescence frequently occurs because a replacement has become available that is superior in one or more aspects. Types of obsolescenceTechnical obsolescenceVideotapes making way for DVDsTechnical obsolescence may occur when a new product or technology supersedes the old, and it becomes preferred to utilize the new technology in place of the old. Historical examples of superseding technologies causing obsolescence include CD-ROM over floppy disk which allowed for greater storage capacity and speed, DVD over VHS which allowed for greater quality and multimedia functions, or the telephone over the telegraph which allowed for audio transmission instead of coded electrical signals. On a smaller scale, particular products may become obsolete due to replacement by a newer version of the product. Many products in the computer industry become obsolete in this manner; for example, Central processing units frequently become obsolete in favor of newer, faster units. Some products are rendered technologically obsolete due to changes in complimentary products which results in the function of the first product being made unnecessary. For example, buggy whips became obsolete when people started to travel in cars rather than in horse-drawn buggies. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is it really worth buying movies when the format and equipment become obsolete? Q. People would buy movies on beta, vhs and dvd and now they are going to blueray. What is a person supposed to do with all these movies when the viewing equipment becomes obsolete? What is your opinion? Asked by gussie - Tue Apr 1 13:28:22 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't suppose you can lose with buying a Blu Ray player since it incorporates your DVD library. I say if you're ready to put the bucks in for upgrading, go for it. Then buy whatever you don't have on DVD in Blu-Ray format from here on. I think more care is taken to preserve previous formats, hence DVD is not really obsolete and probably won't be. I really think Blu-Ray will be the final physical media format, because if you think about it, there is no need to upgrade the technology further. We have crystal clear images on ideal 52" household screens. I don't think householdwise that we would need to push the technology any further. Will TV's get any bigger in homes? And i look forward to seeing your results on here i hope. I think you may have guessed right. The applications available now, are making stuff like this less and less used. Though it brings memories for me, i think it is still great in primary schools or for certain uses, there is the fun of actually using the tracing paper , this cannot be replicated in other ways. Q. I'm going to build my own computer and I am thinking about the Q9550, but since intel released the i7 how long till my chip is no longer used? I am building a Gaming/work computer but I'm not an avid gamer. Asked by Dogman - Wed Jul 8 09:45:12 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It all depends to whom it is obsolete, to you or the industry. Currently Dual Cores are the norm for PCs. Quad Cores and up are for enthusiasts and businesses that need the processing power. (Extreme gamers, Gaming industry, Hollywood 3D effects, Pixar, etc.) IMO the chip you want to use will probably last at least 5 years. There are still people using Pentium 4's so you should be fine.
