A parent is a mother or father; one who sires or gives birth to and/or nurtures and raises an offspring. The different roles of parents vary throughout the tree of life, and are especially complex in human culture.

Father

Main article: Father

Like mothers, fathers may be categorised according to their biological, social or legal relationship with the child. Historically, the biological relationship paternity has been determinative of fatherhood. However, proof of paternity has been intrinsically problematic and so social rules often determined who would be regarded as a father e.g. the husband of the mother.

Biological parents and parental testing

The term biological parent refers to a parent who is the biological mother or father of an individual. While an individual's parents are often also their biological parents, it is seldom used unless there is an explicit difference between who acted as a parent for that individual and the person from whom they inherit half of their genes. For example, a person whose father has remarried may call his new wife their stepmother and continue to refer to their mother normally, though someone who has had little or no contact with their biological mother may address their foster parent as their mother, and their biological mother as such, or perhaps by her first name.

can the parents or parent get into any legal trouble if their child runs away?
Q. First off no im not planning on running away nor is anyone I know. I was simply curious because I don't see how they can unless the child was forced out the home or living in a terrible environment(getting sexually abused and such). So can the parents get into trouble with the police or charged with anything if their child free willingly runs away? And if so what type of legal actions take place for the parents not the child.

How can my SIM character mourn his parents' death if they live in different houses?
Q. My SIM just grew into an adult and he needs to move out of his parent's place. His parents are elders and they will die soon. How can the son mourn his parents' grave if the parents r going to die in a different house?

A. when his parents die there will be no one left in the house. you can move him out of his new home or get someone else to move in with him and when he moves back in his parents place he can have the graves in his inventory. if you really wanted to you could put the graves at his home. so his parents will always be with him.

What exactly can parents do to help their daughters enter the dating world with confidence?
Q. Girls rarely get to direct their own sexual identity or development in our culture. Between the messages they get from the media, friends, parents and boys, it's amazing any of them leave adolescence unscathed. Unfortunately, though, many don't. So what can parents do to protect their girls? How can they help girls navigate their way through these messages, and still somehow stay true to the girls' own desires? How can they still get to date, without getting too sexually involved? Thank you so much on behalf on me and my daughter!

A. First, ensure that they know to take care of themselves. Teach then how to make sure no one does anything they don't want them to do. RAD courses are something I would recommend. There are too many sickos out there. Even at my age, I worry when I go out the door and am terrified for my daughter. Ensure she always has enough change for a payphone in her purse. If her cell gets stolen, she'll need a way to call you. Always make sure she has enough change to make a call if she needs to.

Parenting is the process of raising and educating a child from birth until adulthood.

Sourced

  • Parenting is among the most personal choices anyone ever makes. At the same time, no other individual decision has as significant a societal impact. Finding a careful balance between personal autonomy and the public welfare is often a considerable challenge.
  • Mrs. Darling first heard of Peter when she was tidying up her children's minds. It is the nightly custom of every good mother after her children are asleep to rummage through their minds and put things straight for next morning, repacking into their proper places the many articles that have wandered during the day. If you could keep awake (but of course you can't) you would see your own mother doing this, and you would find it very interesting to watch her. It is quite like tidying up drawers. You would see her on her knees, I expect, lingering humourously over some of your contents, wondering where on earth you had picked this thing up, making discoveries sweet and not so sweet, pressing this to her cheek as if it were a kitten, and hurriedly stowing that out of sight. When you wake up in the morning, the naughtiness and evil passions with which you went to bed have been folded up small and placed at the bottom of your mind; and on the top, beautifully aired, are spread out your prettier thoughts, ready for you to put on.
  • Let France have good mothers, and she will have good sons.
