How do you deactivate the passenger airbag on a 2006 Jetta TDI?
Q. Ok, I know it's probably easy, but I can't find anything about it in the car's manual. I know it can be done, because there is a light on my dashboard that says "Passenger airbag on/off." It's not a button, though. Just a light. Where is the button or switch for this located?

A. First off, any attempt to disable any airbag (or airbag system device) will turn the airbag light on. Seatbelts is correct, the passenger airbag automatically disables when no one is in the seat. One thing he did not mention is the passenger seat is equipped with a P.O.D.S. device. This stands for something like passenger occupant detection system. It is a gel filled mat under the lower seat cover. When someone sits down, it displaces the gel and is measured. This system can tell if a child is in the seat or an adult. It actually has five or six different increments - empty, child, light adult, heavy adult, ect. It will deploy the airbag accordingly.

My passenger airbag deployed, and in doing so it bent the metal bar on which it was attached. How to fix?

A. Take it to a dealership for whatever kind of car you have, and let them do it. You don't what to mess with installing an air bag, because if you don't have the proper training you could set the new one off after you hook it up, and it would probably kill you if it hit you in the face close range like that.

A. You cant. You risk blowing the bag if you tamper with it. Are you wanting to do this to fit a child seat? If yes then Renault will do it for you but you need to sign a disclaimer. If not for this reason then what??? Get someone who is familiar with repairing accident damaged vehicles to disconnect it for you, but it will be totally off the record and you will have no comeback on that person. I have been fixing accident damaged cars for 18 years, I know what you're looking to have done but in terms of liability, you are asking to have a safety device disabled and potentially risk someones life.

Someone punched my passenger airbag and caused the corner of the cover to slightly lift up.?

The question was asked by a customer looking into purchasing a 2010 Wrangler. This customer knew of earlier models having the factory disable switch in front of the gear shift. I know you can do it on the more recent models. I need to switch off the airbag as I am travelling , on my own,for a long distance with my 3 year old ( about 4 hours drive), and it would be much easier to have her with me in the front.
