How do you locate where your passport is?
Q. I applied for a passport back in February. Due to a high volume of passport applications, receiving a passport has been bumped up to 10 weeks. We are leaving for our honeymoon May 7th. I just looked at the government website for passports and it said my fiance and I's passport have been received and processed. Then they game me a passport locator number. My question is, how do I use the number they gave me to find out where our passports are?

Do I need my passport to travel to EU countries if I have a residence permit card?
Q. I'm an Indonesian, and have a Netherlands residence permit card. Do I still need my passport to travel to EU countries, since the 3 month visa I have inside the passport has expired anyway? And do I queue in the EU line, or the International passport line?
Asked by aroma66 - Thu May 7 10:37:17 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You will need your passport and the Netherlands residence permit (Verblijfsdocument) for travel outside of the Netherlands. You don't need to queue since there are no passports controls on Schengen internal flights. You cannot go without a visa to EU countries which are not party of the Schengen travel agreement, those are Ireland and the United Kingdom. The new EU countries Cyprus and Romania allow a 5 day transit, Bulgaria grants a 36 hours transit. Non EU countries which also apply to the Schengen agreement and may be visited without immigration procedures are Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Holders of a Netherlands residence permit may also visit the microstates which do not have border controls and de facto accept Schengen country… [cont.]

A. Indonesian passport will allow him to enter South East Asian (SEA) countries without visa while using USA passport may cost you visa arrangement & costs to enter SEA countries. I think it is wiser to use Indonesian passport to enter Indonesia & SEA countries then using USA passport when returning to USA.

What happens if your passport is lost in the mail when you apply for a visa?
Q. If you have sent the embassy a prepaid envelope to return your passport and your passport is lost in the mail, what do you do? Particularly if you're traveling in 3 weeks what can you do?
Asked by Hello There - Mon Dec 24 15:11:52 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The US Embassy in manila uses a reliable courier service. In your case, you can actually sue the courier company which lost your passport leading to this inconvenience. This means you have to go back to number 1, get an affidavit of loss of passport, certified by a notary public, report loss of passport to the police ( maybe u can bypass this ) , apply for new passport then apply for a US visa again. It is really inconvenient.

A. No, it won't make any difference. Just check into the requirements for getting a new passport so that you aren't stuck with having to sort it out on an emergency basis.

What is a biometrical passport picture and how do I get one?
Q. I will be studying abroad in Germany for about four months and I have to get a student visa. I have to have a passport sized pic for it, and it has to be in a biometrical format. First off, what is a biometrical passport pic? Secondly, what does one look like and lastly, how do I obtain one? Can I use a home personal picture program such as Kodak and a digital camera and make one at home, or do I need to use a professional printing service? All and any help would be appreciated!
Asked by amerikan007 - Wed Mar 15 17:00:17 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As for the picture, a biometric passport PHOTO is simply a portrait of you from the neck up with your head turned a bit off to the side. Make sure you have a neutral expression. Everytime I had to go to the "Auslaenderbehoerde" or Foreigner's Office as an American in Germany, I just looked for a friendly Turkish person near the photomat and asked them for help - they always knew the ins and outs! :-)

How To Get a Passport Quickly From My Post Office Without Stress?
Q. I'm an 18yr old male, college student, residing in Los Angeles California and on July 3rd am going to be in China for about 4 weeks. This is my 1st time travelling outside the United States and have never obtained a passport. Therefore am completely clueless on how to obtain one; especially in a shorter amount of time since the trip is a mere six (6) weeks away. Luckly I live about 2 blocks from a post office and I know they do passports there but can someone fill me in on what I need to do to get one? Especially in this short amount of time? What do i need, when do i need it and how soon? Is there anyway I can speed things up by doing them online? Website links and valuable information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

A. You need your actually birth certificate (not the one from the hospital but the real one from the county with the stamp, no copies allowed), and $100. They can take your picture there, you can fill it out there and off it will go. They can tell you if you need to spend a little extra to expedite the passport so you should bring your e-ticket from the airline with you. You might even need to make an appointment and go to the federal building to get it. Passports are taking about 3 months to process right now. You need to go the post office as soon as you can and sorry but you can't fill out any of it on-line.

A. The best site for your information is the US State Department If it's your first passport, you'll have to go into a passport office anyway. Renewals can be done on-line or submitted by mail. Once the application is submitted it takes at least 3-4 weeks to receive your passport in the mail. They can also expedite your application within 2 weeks with a door-to-door service. You can also check the status of your application at the same website. There are some upcoming changes with Passport cards, it's supposed to be more efficient as far as avoiding fraud or theft. There are some sites that offer 24hour passport service, but there are additional costs involved and there's no guarantee it's legit. Hope this helps!

Do we need a passport to go to Canada from Michigan?
Q. Next August, 2008, my husband and I have a meeting in Canada, and are planning to take our children, the oldest of whom will be 11. We are all US (Michigan) citizens. Will we all need passports, how much does a passport cost, and how long is it valid? Is this done through the Secretary of State's office? By the way, we'll be driving, not flying, if that makes any difference.
Asked by Steph-annie - Fri Jun 8 12:14:14 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This isn't static, it is a work in progress, so you will need to keep on top of it between now and then. Right now, the suggested rules for next year (driving) is you and your husband will need passports and you will need birth certificates for the kids. (Revised rules announced Feb 2007) I would start the process soon. Passports are valid for 5 years, and the US has an easier process to renew a passport. You can get an application at any post office, or at my second link. It costs $97 each, plus photos. See the link - scroll to the bottom for Children. The rule change in the news today is those flying this summer only need to show they applied for a passport because of passport issue backlogs. So, they still would have had to… [cont.]

What happens if a passport just expires before arrival at the destination?
Q. Here is the scenario. The passport is still valid while embarking at a country. The flight travels for 4 hours and because of the timezone difference, the passport already expired while landing at the home country destination. What will happen now? Will they try me for violation? P.S: I am not into this situation. Just to understand the general immigration procedures.

Do I need a passport to travel from Edinburgh to London via plane?
Q. I am planning a trip to London from Edinburgh. The home office has my passport, as I am trying to obtain a tier 1 visa. Do I need a passport to travel on a plane from Edinburgh to London? I assumed I only needed a picture ID, but I recall in an episode of Airport a man being very angry because he needed a passport to fly between Scotland and England. I wasn't sure if this was because he just needed some form of photo ID or actually needed a passport. Thanks for your help!

A. From traveler s information on British Airways: We do not require to see a passport or photo identification if you are travelling on purely UK domestic flights* (i.e. with no onwards international flights). If you are travelling on an e-ticket, you will need to have the credit/debit card originally used to pay for the booking. This is for identification purposes only and you will not be charged again. *If your credit card has expired since payment was made, you have a new credit card or you do not have your original credit card you used for payment with you, you will not be able to use the Self-Service kiosks or check-in desks. Please go to the ticket desk at the airport. The ticket desk will be able to check your booking and enable it… [cont.]

A. I think you may want to check that out.Heart Island is the location of Boldt Castle and you can get off the boat for a short period of time to tour the site.Since it is considered a port of entry for both Canada and the United States you may want to check that out. You probably will be able to take the boat tour but without a valid passport you may not be able to leave the boat, A call to any local travel agent will clarify this point for you. I was on the Thousand Island tour many moons ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. If memory seves me right we boarded in Gananoque.
