How do Penn Foster College payment plans work?
Q. If you're enrolled in automatic payments with Penn Foster College, and you wish to continue to Semester Two, do you set up an additional payment schedule and continue to pay on Semester One, or do you consolidate both Semesters to a single payment? I'm confused as to how the automatic payment plan works as you're going through the program. Thanks!

A. They consolidate your payment into one. Same monthly payment too.

Is Penn Foster College a legitimate online college?
Q. My friend just told me that she is getting an online degree through Penn Foster. Does anyone know if this college is legitimate? Or is it a diploma mill. It is awful expensive. I dont want to see her throw her money away.
Asked by Scullytheparrot - Sat Dec 15 17:53:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Penn Foster ( is not a diploma mill and they are not comparatively expensive. By comparison, I pay $1500 per class (not program or degree) where I attend right now and the state school I got my BA from was $900+ per class. Penn Foster charges less than that for a semester in their associate's degrees and full course of study in their vocationals. Penn Foster is accredited by the DETC ( which is recognized by the US Dept. of Education ( and the CHEA ( The issue with Penn Foster (and the similar Ashworth) is that they are not regionally accredited. Most colleges will not accept their degrees in transfer (though some Penn Foster courses have been ACE evaluated and will transfer to some other colleges). Now, if your friend is doing a… [cont.]

What are your ideas on Penn Foster College and trade degrees?
Q. I have been working on diesel engines for a while now but I don't have any degree or certification. I have heard that Penn Foster isn't really helpful when it comes to professional degrees like education but what about the trades?...anyone?
Asked by Ire - Mon Jan 26 08:51:28 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can get your diesel certification at most community colleges, for fairly low cost. CCs are also entirely reputable, and appropriately accredited. The diesel training courses tend to be fairly short, so you won't have to spend too much time there in order to get the certificate you need. Penn Foster - the problems there are that the school doesn't have a good rep, and it's not appropriately accredited. I'd be afraid that you'd spend your money there, and end up with a worthless piece of paper. I'd rather you spend more and go to a reputable automotive/diesel trade school that's local to you. If you've been working on diesel engines for a while, you probably know others who are working in the industry, and local to you. Ask them… [cont.]

Is penn foster college adapted for my needs?
Q. I am taking courses at penn for assistant veterinary and as I am living in europe I wonder if this program really helps me in finding a job after graduation. Can someone help me?who knows much about this ?
Asked by Teodora - Wed Sep 30 12:05:58 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Are you actually taking courses in veterinary assisting or veterinary technology? If the former then you are likely going to see only moderate value placed upon your certification because veterinary assisting is an entry--level position and there is no special training or educatio required to take the position. If you are taking their veterinary technology program, then you are going to be in better shape. In many states in the US you must have a degree in veterinary technology from an American Veterinary Medical Assoc. accredited school in order to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam and be credentialed as a veterinary technician. Penn Foster is an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program. That being said, Penn… [cont.]

A. Well, at least it will be easy! There have been several entries on here recently from people asking for the answers to Penn Foster tests, and several responses giving the answers in detail! So, that probably tells you two things: how hard it will be to finish your degree, and how much people from other schools will respect it.

Will all employers accept a degree from Penn Foster College?
Q. I've been reading alot of positive quotes and opinions online about PFC, but none of them said that they have found employment after completion!. Please fill me in.
Asked by Alexander - Wed Sep 23 00:23:15 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Will all employers...no. If you have a degree from PFC and another person has the same degree from a brick & mortar college, you won't be getting the job. PFC only offers two bachelor degrees; Business Management & Criminal Justice. If you really want to see what a degree from PFC is worth, go talk to some HR departments at various businesses and see what they tell you. If PFC was as good as it says it is, why would they continue to offer up to 28% off if you contact them today?

Is the online College Penn Foster program a scam?
Q. I am looking for online Associate Degrees for Mechanical Engineering and I ran across Penn Foster, I just want to know if it is a scam or the real deal.
Asked by Joe - Mon Sep 1 13:01:19 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Penn Foster is accredited by the DETC which is recognized as a legitimate accreditor by the US Dept. of Education. Penn Foster (at the degree level) is not regionally accredited. That means that their course credit will not transfer to most senior (4-year) colleges. Many Penn Foster individual courses have been reviewed for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and will, based on that evaluation, transfer to many senior (4-year) colleges. As online trade programs go, Penn Foster and Ashworth College are about equals. They serve a valid need for career preparation at the technical/trade level. I suspect though, that a career in Mechanical Engineering may require a higher level school. You might want to consider other… [cont.]

A. I'm not real sure. I know that for a long time there were literally DOZENS of people up here cheating -- especially in the "Homework Help" category. However, I've not seen one in a long time, so it appears that PF has clamped down somehow. So, I'd say it seems to be at least legit enough to do that! :) Truly though, I'd enroll in an online program from a "brick and mortar" university if I were you though. For instance UCLA (if they have one). Then your degree would just say UCLA and not specify if it was on line or not and no one would know the difference. Hope I helped!
