Does Penn Foster allow students to take individual courses?
Q. I see a lot about Penn Foster on here. (Unfortunately mostly from people wanting to cheat.) Some of the electives look very interesting, can someone sign up to take just one class, or do they have to enroll in the whole program? Also, anyone have their web address? Oh come on! I know there are some cheaters... uh... I mean Penn Foster students out there!

Penn Foster Veterinarian Assistant!?
Q. Hello Everyone!! I was considering getting into Penn Foster to take Veterinarian Assistant coarse! I'm just afraid it's a waster of time and money. They say I would get a career diploma and I never even heard of something like that. I just know it's cheap and convenient for me. Have anyone ever gone here or know someone. A. I am about to finish the program for Vet Assistant through Penn Foster. I would say that you first need to decide what your long term goals are. Do you want to be a vet assistant or a veterinary technician? As a veterinary technician, your daily responsibilities can vary depending on your work environment. Most vet techs work in veterinary clinics and emergency centers caring for domestic animals. In these private practices, you will assist in the following types of procedures: Physical examinations Dental procedures Spaying and neutering Immunization Birthing and euthanasia Vet Assistants however have various tasks to do and typically start from the bottom and work their way up. Cleaning cages, picking up poop, pee, vomit,… [cont.]

What are your thoughts on Penn Foster College?
Q. Would you say that their ONLINE diploma/degree programs are a waste of time and money? I'd prefer well-thought answers from experienced or knowledgeable people, including current or previous students. I'm about to finish up my Veterinary Assistance course with Penn Foster, but still am not sure if it's a good 'thing' or not. I've been thinking of signing up for another course, but at the same time I'd like to avoid spending the money if it's not worth it. Thanks!

Penn Foster Highschool?
Q. I have a question for current and past Penn Foster Highschool students. I'm considering signing up for the complete course and was wondering how that worked. I was reading it said as you complete courses they'll send you your next one. So is one course one subject? How many lessons come with the complete package, and is that for your entire high school career? Do you get to pick which classes you take, or do they pick them for you? Any other information is also appreciated. Thanks!

Student Loans For Penn Foster?
Q. I am interested in Penn Foster College (you attend at home online or by mail) and the only way I can afford it plus buy the supplies I need is if I get a student loan but none of the websited I have found recognize Penn Foster. It is an accredited college by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). I am almost 21 and have been out of high school for over 2 years and I'm not interested too much in scholarships. I have searched and tried many of the student loan websites out there but nobody has Penn Foster on their list. Anybody know where I can get a student loan?

A. I'm not taking the high school course, but I am enrolled in the legal studies for an associates degree. They're a good school, very good. You can trust their programs, I assure you. However, I know it is a scary thought, doing education online, so I joined their group online, where there are hundreds of students posting questions and answers daily! Feel free to join and speak to the alumni and current students, they're very very helpful! Best of luck!

Ashworth or Penn Foster for online finance degree?
Q. I decided to enroll in either Penn Foster or Ashworth online college. Does anybody has any experience wiht their finance or accounting degree? I hear Ashworth has a very good online student community - what about Penn Foster? I want to study at my own pace but still be able to hook up with fellow online students. The finance or accounting program would be mainly for my own enrichment - What sounds better? Degree from Penn Foster or Ashworth? I have been doing research for almost a year. I could not find any other self paced college for around $ 4000 total for degree I want. Some college offer distance degrees but you have to work at their timeframe and be in online classes at certain times. That won't work with me. Just not sure if I… [cont.]

A. I just "left school" [stopped attending] about 2 weeks ago, because I'm switching to American School. [which is similar to Penn Foster]. Anyways, I think what they are referring to is that MOST 'students' under 18 are still in -- or, like me, recently left -- high school. For my situation, it means that I should make sure my mom and I go to my school and legally withdraw from the school system and stuff. For you... the situation is probably a little different. GI Bill and Penn Foster College (online)?
Q. Does anyone have any experience using the GI Bill at Penn Foster? Currently I am being awarded 73.00 per month with my GI Bill. I have been told by VA and Penn Foster that at the end of my semester Penn Foster will submit a form to VA showing how many credits I earned and the time frame it took to earn them. Then VA will determine if I was a full, 3/4, half time student and issue a check for the proper amount. I finished 17 credits in 8 months does anyone know how much additional money (if any) I will receive for this. I can't seem to get an answer from VA and I figure it will take several weeks to process. If anyone has any knowledge of this I would welcome any comments. Other than that I really don't know how exactly Penn Foster functions. If you come up with any of the details let me know because I too plan on going to Penn and will be using my VA. Thanks.

Homeschool parent with a question, re: Penn Foster?
Q. I homeschool my children, the older two are in grades 4 and 2 and my youngest is an infant. My 4th grader just turned ten years old, and strives to be a vet. I see a lot of questions in this category about Penn Foster (mainly from people trying to cheat, it seems) and I decided to check out their website. I saw some things that interested me, and was just wondering if anyone has ever used this program? Any feedback would be appreciated. I requested some free information, and I think I would like to contact them about the possibility of purchasing some of their materials without enrolling in their programs-just some things I would like to use for my daughter. She is an "advanced" student and most of the materials geared towards her… [cont.]

A. For an advanced learner, go to the Hoagies Gifted site and check out their links and input: I would steer clear of Penn Foster. Try some other online class options instead: Apex: K12: Florida Virtual School: NorthStar Academy: UNL Independent Study High School: Center for Distance and Independent Study:

Q. I am a very social person, and I would like to be home schooled and my mother hates the county, they are nosey and everything. I would miss my friends, but the thing is I would love to graduate early, and that is my goal. I feel like high school is very overwhelming and stressful. I love that its self paced, so you aren't rushed. I am a great student. I am currently a freshman and have a 3.8 GPA. I need help deciding. Please state your opinions and pro's and con's. Thanks!

Penn Foster's Online High School Program?
Q. I'm going to be calling the school today, but I just wanted to hear from students about their personal experience with the school. I want to graduate from high school early, and the public school I attend is very uncooperative. I took online courses last year and enjoyed them. I really hate the unfocused nature of a public high school classroom, and would rather work at my own pace then be slowed down by class clowns and students who were placed in the incorrect class. Public school's today are really letting themselves go. I can't believe that my counselor and the school's distance-learning adviser are so against this, and they are being both rude and unhelpful. I know you guys won't let me down. =] Thanks! Also, how long did it take you… [cont.]

A. I attended Penn Foster for high school. It took me about 2 years to finish it because you have to have it completely paid off before you actually recieve your diploma so I worked really slow. I could have had it done in about 5 months probably if I didn't take a month here and there without doing any school work. You have 3 years to complete it. It's actually very easy. I really love Penn Foster and it's really nice because you can make small montly payments. But just keep in mind that you can't recieve your diploma until after you have it paid off. Once you have it paid off you recieve your diploma in about two weeks! I would really recommend Penn Foster!

If I'm taking a course in fitness and nutrition at an on line college, is it the same as regular college?
Q. I'm a student of Penn Foster. I like to take on line courses because I have to work full time, and it's cheaper.

A. Is it the same? That depends. Is the college accredited? Do employers in your area respect the students who come out of the program? These are the two major questions you need to ask.
