why physicians do not refer patients to an eldercare consultant?
Q. As physicians frequently have patients that would benefit from the services of a geriatric care manager and have said so, how can we get them to call us and refer their patients to us?
Asked by ontseniors@rogers.com - Mon Oct 29 21:36:31 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Rather than have a physician refer patients to you, why not have hospitals and emergency rooms refer patients to you. Eldercare is a much needed service. Most patients need an advocate to go to the doctors with them. They need someone to review their medications, and explain to them what the doctor is telling them. Alot of patients have no idea what they are diagnosed with and what medications they are taking. I imagine a physician would feel you are infringing on his territory and therefore are reluctant to refer patients to you.
