A. Yes, you can be apart of a service fraternity or honor fraternity and still pledge Delta Sigma Theta. Just make sure it is not apart of any of the intercollegiate orgs (NPHC, PHC, etc) If u are confused to what these are. Just email me. good luck!

Q. I did not have 2.5 gpa when I graduated from undergraduate school. I went back to school and raised my gpa up and I also graduated from grad school. Can still pledge Delta Sigma Theta Grad Chapter. Someone stated that if you only have bachelor degree you have to have a 2.5 gpa but since I have received my master's can I pledge grad chapter.

A. Yes, if you have completed your graduate program and are able to submit that transcript, then it can be considered with your application instead of your undergraduate GPA.

What is the process to pledge Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I know that this is a very secret process, so I do not expect a lot of information, but I was wondering what would be the process to pledge DST (Delat Sigma Theta) if you were not able to during undergrad. The chapter located at my school was suspended until further notice and I don't want that to hinder my goal of becoming part of this sorority. So if anyone has any advice on how to join alumni or graduate chapter please help me! Thank you in advance.

A. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta, and if the chapter from your school is suspended, you only have two options. 1. Transfer to another school that has an active chapter, or 2. Wait until you graduate and join an alum chapter. What I would do is contact the Alum chapter and find out about thier events and support them. I gave this advice to a close friend of mine that really wanted to become a member since the chapter in her school was suspended. Lo and Behold, a semester after she graduated, she went to rush and was chosen. Also do your research, contact NHQ and find out where the nearest grad chapter is, and see if they have a website. If they do, more than likely they have a calender of events, so you can support their events. Good… [cont.]

A. University of Phoenix is an online school. I know that they have satellite campuses in several locations, but I do not think they can have Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chartered on one of their campuses. There are certain requirements that a school must meet for a chapter to be chartered, I do not believe University of Phoenix will meet those requirements. You can contact National Headquarters to get more information about chartering a chapter. If you decide to wait until you graduate you do have the option of pledging an alumnae chapter.

How do I pledge Delta Sigma Theta sorority in community college? What if I dual enroll at the university?
Q. I am 40 and interested in pledging. What if I dual enroll at the university, taking at least one class? And do online courses count? My degree program does offer me the option to participate in the transfer program.
Asked by Felicia - Sun Sep 27 16:58:13 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If my memory serves me correctly, you have to be enrolled in a university (where a chapter is present) or have a 4-year degree, where you can pledge in an alumnae chapter. You may want to check out the national website for more clarification: Scroll over "Membership" and select what interests you, such as FAQ and Applicant Rights.

Can you pledge Delta Sigma Theta at Devry University as an undergrad?
Q. Since there is no active chapter at Devry can I pledge at a near by school that has a chapter?Or do I have to wait until I graduate and join the alumi chapter. I have done a lot of community service with San Jose State so far also.
Asked by CuriousChick - Wed Jun 17 18:40:36 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As far as I know there is not a undergraduate chapter established at Devry University. If you are interested in chartering a chapter at Devry University you need to contact Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. National Office to speak with someone about the details of the process. However, be aware that there are certain requirements a school must meet for an undergraduate chapter to be established at the school. I am not sure whether or not Devry University meets those requirements. If you contact the National Office they will be able to let you know. Hope this helps!

A. Hi there, The previous poster is correct. In order for you to join Delta Sigma Theta, you have to be enrolled full time at a 4 year university. You also want to make sure there is an active chapter on campus. There are plenty of chapters in the Dallas area. I would advice that you visit this website. It should have all the info you are looking for regarding chapters in Texas. You can contact the president of the chapter of your choice to inquire more information regarding websites... Good luck

I want to pledge Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. this fall. Questions and concerns.
Q. In a week I will be a senior, I have wanted to pledge Delta Sigma Theta for years and I believe my chance to pledge is coming soon. I have over a year of committed community service, a 3.3 gpa and close relationships with a few Delta's on campus. My only concern is having someone to write my recommendation letter. Someone that I know has offered to write my letter when the time comes. I would like to know if she is financial but I feel like it might be rude to ask. How do I go about doing this? Also, am I on the right track for membership and is there anything else that I should know or do? I haven't expressed my interest in Delta with my friends who are members because I don't want them or anyone else to think that I'm friends with them… [cont.]

A. Congrats on the positive efforts that you have made so far. I am not a member of Delta Sigma Theta but through research that I have found, I believe that if you are very close to members of Delta Sigma Theta you shouldn't have a problem asking them for a rec. letter. That is if you feel comfortable asking them. If a member of DST is willing to write you a rec letter they should be aware that they have to be financially active in order to write one for you. But like I said earlier if you are close with a member (ie they will leave you alone in there house with their children) then there shouldn't be a problem. Continue to do community service, participate in school organizations, and continue to keep that gpa up there. It is a good thing… [cont.]

Am I too old to pledge traditionally to Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.?
Q. I am a 31 yr old single mother of one that is returning to college to finish my bachelor's degree. I am also interested in pledging Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Here are a few of my concerns: 1. Am I too old to pledge traditionally or should I just wait to pledge grad? I didnt want to be frowned upon as being just "paper" but this is definitely something I am deeply inspired to be a part of, contribute to, and be active. 2. Does the fact that I'm a part time student make a difference? 3. Is there any further research or reading materials I need to do prior to attending rush? I'm really looking for a little honest guidance as to how I should go about this process the right way. Thank you all in advance for any feedback.

A. Hi there, You are not too old go through the membership intake process. I personally know many sorors who were older than you that went through the process through undergrad. We do not discriminate against age. We also have many members who were single mothers who joined as well. It basically comes down to this, Going through the process is not easy, takes a lot of work, time, and commitment. Many before you have done it successfully and you can as well. The best advice that I can give you you is using your time management skills wisely. It is also required that you are a FULL-TIME student when joining our organization. If you feel that you can not meet this requirement, then let me suggest that you wait until after you graduate and… [cont.]

A. NEVER loose sight of your dreams; if this is something that you want strive for it. I once heard a story about a women that went through MIP at the age 49. But to answer your question: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated does not have an age limit for application in either the collegiate or alumnae chapters.

A. I am pretty positive you cannot be in a sorority without being enrolled in the school which it is affiliated. Honestly though, all they do is cost money too much money. You basically are paying for your friends. I came to college without knowing anyone and I have made sooo many friends, and have heard horror stories about sororities and how they are so snotty and stuck up, and its just a big dramafest. If you make friends in life you don't need "Greek Life" to make those friendships last a lifetime, all it takes is a small effort on at least one person's part to keep a friendship for a lifetime. And if you want to volunteer in your community you can find hundreds of ways to do so without joining a sorority. You can also find ways… [cont.]

What are the costs of joining Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am a student hoping to pledge Delta Sigma Theta (DST), but I do not know if I could financially be capable of paying whatever intake fees there are. I make good grades and am involved on my campus, but very short on funds. Is there anyone that can give me a ball park idea of the fees that I would incur in the beginning? Also if the fees are especially high are there scholarships available or any other options that would be recommended?
Asked by N Y - Mon Jan 28 16:05:16 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Hi there, Unfortunately, the price of joining Delta Sigma Theta is privilege information. My best and advice to you is to attend the information/Rush on your campus. The information you will need will be provided there. Also we do not give scholarships for people to go through MIP. I have heard of people taking additional educational loans to pay for the process, so that could be an option for you. Good luck to you!

Can I pledge Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. Hey everyone. I currently attend a private school with ties to a DST chapter at a nearby public university. I transferred to my current school and next year I will be a senior. Earlier this year I expressed interest to some friends about pledging. During a dinner one night I asked a delta if pledgin took place in the Spring and homegirl flipped out on me and I was turned off by that. So here we are in the spring and a new group joined the line last week (I was not asked to pledge) and I'm wondering what I can do to pledge my senior year. All the deltas I know are graduating and I've never spoken to the new ones. I'm really involved in campus act and I have a lot of friends but for whatever reason they don't want me.. advice??

A. At this point, I would advise that you continue being involved on campus. I would also add that you attend all if not as many of my soror's events on campus. This would not only give you a chance for them to get to know you, but for you to get to know them. Aside from focusing on your grades, and continue performing community service, there is nothing else you can do at this point. There are plenty of my sorors that I personally know that did not make it on their 1st 2nd and even 3rd time. Do not let that deter you from your dream of becoming a member of DST. Remember there is ALWAYS grad chapter. Also unless have a personal relationship with one of my sorors, I would NEVER let them know your interests of pledging. *BTW we don't use… [cont.]

A. Hi there, In some cases there can be three different requirements in joining a greek organization. First are the National Requirements, then School Requirements, and last but not least, chapter requirements. For example at some HBCU's you have to have a 3.0 to join an organization even though the national requirement may be 2.5. With that being said, the BEST way to find this information is going to our national website at www.deltasigmatheta.org for the national requirements. I would then contact your student activities office/greek affairs office to see if the school has it's own requirements. (many do not, but some do) And lastly, I the BEST way to find out if the chapter has it's own requirements, the best way to find out what they… [cont.]
