What are the steps to pledging Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I'll be a 22 year old freshman when I enter college.. for the first time... I also have a child.. Will this matter to the sorority?

A. No, but one thing is very important when joining a NPHC organization..discretion. .do not broadcast your desire to join the organization to people that don't need to know...get to know a person in the chapter you plan to join and speak privately with them about it

I'm a freshman and want to pledge Delta Sigma Theta, and I'm white. How do you feel about caucasians pledging?
Q. Thanks for all the support. I just know that not being African-American I didn't have some one to tell me all the things I need to do to be on line. Any suggestions on what to do?

A. Delta Sigma Theta welcomes all qualified women, regardless of race, to apply for membership. It is an exclusive organization, however, because the current members of the chapter you are seeking to join have the power to vote for or against you and do not have to justify their reasons. My advice is for you to show the current chapter members that you are genuine and you should do fine.

Pledging Delta Sigma Theta Grad Chapter (GPA wise)?
Q. Hello. I am interested in pledging Delta Sigma Theta; however, my undergraduate g.p.a was a 2.3, but my graduate school g.p.a. is a 3.2. Will my undergraduate gpa haunt me in my endevour? Will my gpa for my master program be of any benefit?

A. I agree with my soror. Although I did not pledge grad chapter, I have had some sorors that was in the same situation. My best advice to you? If you are worried or concerned about your undergrad gpa, make sure everything else is on POINT! e.g. community service, knowing the members of the chapter you desire to join, and attending if not all, as many of their events that your schedule permits. The fact that you have a Master will DEF help you. Good luck to you!

A. Yes, you can be apart of a service fraternity or honor fraternity and still pledge Delta Sigma Theta. Just make sure it is not apart of any of the intercollegiate orgs (NPHC, PHC, etc) If u are confused to what these are. Just email me. good luck!

About pledging Delta Sigma Theta....?
Q. Im a junior in college and Ive been considering pleadging for Delta Sigma Theta but I dont know if I'd be able to do anything really physical because I had a knee replacement not too long ago but I dont want to pledge in the Grad chapter. If I try now..and get invited to pledge...will it be unfair to the other ladies or should I just go grad chapter?? I wouldnt feel right asking one of the Deltas just because... I pretty much know the process...I was just wondering with my knee and everything, would I get treated differently...and then my line sisters would treat me differently also?? And I have several letters from active members and besides my godmother is a "famous" delta so I know that part wont be a problem. I just dont want to sign… [cont.]

A. I'm going to try and say this as politely as possible. If you ever become Greek, you'll understand why I'm saying these things the way I am. I mean no harm; I just want you to think about it. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., I need to know why you don't want to join a grad chapter. Is it because you're worried about being paper? A skater? If these are your only reasons, then maybe Greek life isn't for you, or you need to change your priorities a bit. Sororities are about sisterhood and SERVICE, not about what you can get out of it. I'm sure you truly are interested in striving for these principles, but honestly think about why you want to join. If by chance you do get picked to pledge, talk to the girls on line w/… [cont.]

How does someone who has already graduated college plede Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am a college graduate who is living in the Bronx, and I would love to pledge Delta Sigma Theta. I have had a deep interest in this sorority since I was a young girl and I am ready to make that commitment. I would like to meet anyone who might also be interested in pledging and how they are going about it. I am really looking for specific answers. Thanks in Advance

A. I am pretty positive you cannot be in a sorority without being enrolled in the school which it is affiliated. Honestly though, all they do is cost money too much money. You basically are paying for your friends. I came to college without knowing anyone and I have made sooo many friends, and have heard horror stories about sororities and how they are so snotty and stuck up, and its just a big dramafest. If you make friends in life you don't need "Greek Life" to make those friendships last a lifetime, all it takes is a small effort on at least one person's part to keep a friendship for a lifetime. And if you want to volunteer in your community you can find hundreds of ways to do so without joining a sorority. You can also find ways… [cont.]

Grades and other criterias for pledging Delta Sigma Theta?

I have done my share of community service and love the joy it brings to me by helping those less fortunate then me but still i don't think that is enough. i'm a sophomore going into my junior year of college and don't want to wait too long to pledge as I'll begin taking my much harder classes to graduate. A. Hi there, Delta women pride themselves on choosing individuals that are hard workers, and take pride in helping the community. Grades will be a key factor when choosing individuals for membership. Now I am not saying this to discourage you, I am just keeping it real. If Delta is in your heart and you meet the minimal requirements, then I would suggest that submit you packet and try anyway. In some cases I found that where some people lack in one area, they make up in other areas. Overall my advice is still apply and let the chips fall where they may. If you are not chosen, then apply again...remember membership in Delta Sigma Theta is a lifetime commitment! Good luck!

Can juniors in college pledge Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am currently a sophomore at IUPUI in Indianapolis and am planning to transfer to Texas Southern University this spring. I have found that in order to pledge you have to attend RUSH week that is held in the fall. Being that I'm transferring in the spring I know this is not possible. I have concerns that I will be maybe "too old" to pledge. I will be 20 in the fall of 09. Anyone suggestions on whether or not to pledge?

A. To answer you question, YES you can join Delta as a junior. At my chapter, there has been times where we have picked Seniors. Also we do not discriminate against age. One of my lines sisters was 36 when she joined our org,and the youngest on our line was 19. I say that to state, don't let your age deter you from becoming a member of this prestigious organization! Good luck to you!

A. -By joing most groups either a Sorority, social club, or anything; they require money to operate. For example do you think the power company gives free electricty to homeless shelters? No, they have to pay for operations. -So, to answer your question if you are selected to be a member of Delta, then yes you will have to pay dues. Most sororities including Delta often donate money (often hundreds of thousands) to charities, so members have to contribute...the money doesn't fall from the sky. -Dues differ from organizations. Plus I doubt any Delta would tell you how much they paid in dues, especially on the internet.

A. When joining an alumnae chapter, you are only able to join one that is close to where you reside. If you already know where you will be residing after graduation, then I would suggest that you visit our national website, and go the region section. There you will find websites to different alumnae chapters. On various websites, my sorors will list upcoming events, and some even have a place where you can join a mailing list that will keep you updated on upcoming events, including Rush/Informational. Once you know which alumnae chapter that you are able to join, (possibly) I would attend their events, get to know them and more importantly allow them to get to know you. I like stress a strong academic and community service relationship. Along with educating yourself and getting to know chapter members you should be off to a good start.

A. The pledging process has nothing to do with sex, so I don't see how your sexuality would affect your pledging process. Also, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. doesn't discriminate on any basis, so your sexuality shouldn't be an issue. But to be real, sexuality is a controversial subject in America right now (and always has been really), and some people are more open minded than others. I have a lot of gay friends and I've been with a girl before, so I am more open minded about it than others. You never know, just be cool and don't let your sexuality define you and I'm sure you'll have no problem. A. Sure,,,why not? I would recommend this to a person that is dedicated, and determined to not allow this process to come between their school work, as well as their jobs. Two of my line sisters both worked full time, while in school full-time, and one of them also had a 8 year old child...So it can be done. They also both maintained a 3.4 gpa during MIP. Q. I live in Dallas and I can't find any events online, I may be searching the wrong websites. I've wanted to become a Delta every since my grandmother told me stories from when she joined. If anyone knows any information please tell me, thank you in advance for the help!!

A. Hi there, The previous poster is correct. In order for you to join Delta Sigma Theta, you have to be enrolled full time at a 4 year university. You also want to make sure there is an active chapter on campus. There are plenty of chapters in the Dallas area. I would advice that you visit this website. It should have all the info you are looking for regarding chapters in Texas. You can contact the president of the chapter of your choice to inquire more information regarding websites... Good luck

Would it be possible to pledge Delta sigma theta at different school?
Q. If my school chapter is suspended

A. Unless you were banned or rejected by the chapter at the first school, there's no restriction on future pledging elsewhere.
