What is the normal starting point for police work?
Q. Let's say I start with a duel degree in psy and criminal justice, then I fill out a application for a police department, and pass the phisical and written exam, and I go to police accedmy...What comes next, do they start with patrol or traffic duty, or does it depend on your skills in the accedmy? Or is it like a wherever we need you type of thing? Where does a beginner begin in the fild of police work?

A. No matter how many degrees you have before hand, once you graduate from the academy, you will start off as a general duty patrol officer. If you want bigger and better things like SWAT, you will have had to be on the Dept. for a minimum of 3-5 years, apply for the position, and then be accepted. Take it from me, patrol is the BEST!! I've been doing that for 20 years, and not a day goes by that you don't find something new and stimulating comes along. You sure don't get bored on patrol!!
