Can a published poets book hit the mainstream without a college education?
Q. I've written a book of poetry that I will not name because of rules. I've talked with other published poets they say they believe I have a unique style and perspective in my poetry. Yet, they also say that I won't get recognized because I don't have any degrees. I have the other two books written and getting ready to publish them. Maybe I should just be happy with my accomplishments and forget about what the educators of the world think.

A. With all due respect, and without slamming education or educators, of which I am a "family member"; Formal education, most ecpecially in the sense of being a writer, aids in the technical aspects. It does little for the context and content of what a writer wishes to express, in an emotional/spiritual sense. I assume that any status whatsoever, might mean something to those who achieve it, while some of us went through the process to become more knowledgeable and enlightened. I haven't "USED" my degrees in many years, but I don't think in that sense, when writing. My first book was published as a Junior at NYU, no credentials needed, just $$$ for the process. Certainly you can self publish as well, and mainstream might likely NOT be… [cont.]
