How many samples of hydrogen does a sample of sorbose containing 91g of carbon have?
Q. This is the full question, it should make more sense. Sorbose, C6H12O6, is used in making vitamin C. A sorbose sample containing 91g of carbon also contains __g of hydrogen. The answer that was given to us by the professor is 16g of H. Can anyone explain to me why this is the answer and not 12g, I don't understand, Thank you in advance!

A. moles C = 91/12.011 g/mol=7.58 moles H = 7.58 x 12/6=15.2 mass H = 15.2 x 1.008 g/mol=15.3 g

What is the best way of obtaining the purest sample of myoglobin from an extract?
Q. I'm trying to collect a sample of myoglobin from a crude extract of bovine serum albumin. I tried column chromatography (washing the extract with pH 6 buffer first then releasing the myoglobin with pH 7 buffer), but it resulted in a slightly impure sample. Can anyone think of another way of extracting myoglobin? Thanks is advance for your help! Sorry, read the question incorrectly! I need the best way of extracting myoglobin from a sample of myoglobin-rich heart.

A. How can you get anything other than albumin from serum albumin? You can't. Serum albumin is exactly what is says it is, albumin from the blood. If I was you, I'd try to find out what the impurity was before anything else. sds page will give you the MW etc. It might be easy once you know what that is.

How do I get a urine sample from my cat without contaminating it?
Q. My cat has UTI problems and the vet has had trouble getting a urine sample from her using a needle and trying to draw it from her bladder. I want to try to get one when she is peeing... but how do I get it without contaminating it? What can I use as a sterile container?? Any ideas? How much of a sample will I need? Do you have to refridgerate it or something? Is there a time period that I have to get it to them to test?

A. Hi there...there are a few ways to collect a urine sample if direct bladder expressing cannot be done by the vet. Here's a website that offers some excellent suggestions: After the sample is collected and you are unable to bring it to the vet that day refrigerate it with the date and time that the sample was collected with the pet's name and your last name and then bring it to the vet as soon as they are open. The fresher the sample the better the results. Katkor also sells a product that helps collect urine samples in the litter they've created:

What is the difference between a convenience and random sample?
Q. Is it a convenient sample if you ask everyone from a certain group to be part of a study? If you select a certain amount of people from this convenient group randomly to obtain a certain sample size, is it considered 'random sampling'?

A. Convenience sampling only occurs when you take your sample from a group that's easiest to contact or study, such as asking people from a specific area close to your testing center to participate in your study, or only sampling people in a certain employee database, just because it's more convenient. It causes undercoverage and bias because people from other areas and demographics do not have a chance to respond, and thus overall opinion is skewed. Asking everyone from a certain group to be part of a study wouldn't be convenience sampling, it would be cluster sampling. Selecting a certain amount of people from a convenient group randomly would probably still be classified as convenience sampling, though it could easily be regarded as a… [cont.]

How long can you sample a song before you have to pay the artist?
Q. I heard that you can sample a song for bar before you have to pay the artist. If this is true then how long is 16 bars?
Asked by Gregory P - Tue Jan 27 23:43:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. If your sample is recognizable as coming from another song, then it can constitute copyright infringement. There is no time limit or grace period. I've heard that even three notes could be considered copyright infringement, if they're recognizable as being lifted from a different song. In practice, you only need clearance from the artist if you are selling the tracks, ie, making money off of them in recorded form. You don't need clearance to perform material and play samples from other songs. Saul

Q. My 8 month old son has been getting absesses since birth in various areas. The doctor reccommended that once this new infection started to drain that he be brough in and a sample be taken. I was just curious in case it stopped draining, if we could collect a sample of the fluid on a clean swab and place it a ziplock bag?

A. No. The swab is put in a special medium that keeps the bacteria alive so they can tell what it is and what it is susceptible to. As long as the abscess has not scab-ed over they should be able to get a culture.

A. From the moment you take it.To bottle it traps co2 and other gases. to remove it form the source may warm or cool it. shaking, jarring.Haven't done this in a long time but we would immediately take o2/co2 reading&pH(usually in the source itself with a probe),guess color, smell,no tasting,no feeling ,refrig a swirreled portion, take a veg sample, take a liquid sample.Actually I think we refrig all samples.Degradation at the lab is a variable that I didn't doanything about. If you are a concerned citisen ask lab first.

What happens on the molecular level when a sample of liquid water is heated from 50 degrees Celsius to 60 ?
Q. What happens on the molecular level when a sample of liquid water is heated from 50 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius? Likewise, when the sample is boiled?
Asked by Chelsea - Fri Oct 10 10:41:18 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. As you add heat (energy) the particles begin to move faster, causing them to stretch the chemical bonds between molecules that holds the liquid together. Adding enough heat to break these bonds allows the energized molecules to escape the liquid, forming water vapor. The molecules of a gas can be as much as 1000 times as far apart as the molecules of a liquid of the same substance.

Q. A series of sulfate samples is to be analyzed by precipitation as BaSO4. If it is known that the sulfate content in these samples ranges between 20.0% and 55.0%, what minimum sample masss should be taken to ensure that a precipitate mass no smaller than 0.300 grams is produced?

A. moles = concentration(Molar) x volume(litres) n(NaCl) = 3.638M x 2L n(NaCl) = 7.276 m(NaCl) = n(NaCl) x M(NaCl) m(NaCl) = 7.276 x (23 + 35.5) m(NaCl) = 7.276 x 58.5 m(NaCl) = 425.646 grams That's my answer. Hope it Helps

How is it possible to have less of a sample at the end of an experiment?
Q. The title pretty much says it all. How is it possible to have less of a sample after fully completing an experiment in which it was utilized? For example, I start out with 10g of SoO2 then having maybe 6g by the time I'm completed with my experiment. Let's says it was combined with other samples, heated, and then recovered by physical means.

A. Impossible, but your sample could be elsewhere (in the form of a gas, wasted during scraping or perhaps you measured incorrectly.
