From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Scars (also called cicatrices) are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin (or other tissue) after injury. A scar results from the biologic process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound (e.g. after accident, disease, or surgery) results in some degree of scarring. Scar tissue is not identical to the tissue that it replaces and is usually of inferior functional quality. For example, scars in the skin are less resistant to ultraviolet radiation, and sweat glands and hair follicles do not grow back within scar tissue. A myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, causes scar formation in the heart muscle, which leads to loss of muscular power and possibly heart failure. However, there are some tissues (e.g. bone) that can heal without any structural or functional deterioration. GNU Free Documentation License What would a scar look like for an appendectomy that happened when the appendix leaked but not fully ruptured? Q. How would a surgeon perform an appendectomy on someone whose appendix started to leak into their intestines, but didn't fully rupture? I know there are two types of surgeries, and I was wondering what the scar would look like in this scenario? Like how big and stuff? Asked by . - Sat Aug 29 01:44:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. If the appendix was leaking around / outside the intestines (would not be into them), it means it has ruptured. Whatever the case, most appendicectomies in my part of the world are done laparoscopically - this means one cut below the belly button approximately 15mm, and two other cuts 5mm long. For a non-laparoscopic appendicectomy, there would be a cut in your lower right abdomen between 30mm and 120mm long. Q. I cut my arm with a blade about 2 years ago, the scar is right in the middle of my arm and its white. Not sure what type of scar this is but does anyoneee have any creams or tips to minimize this, its an old scar and i really dont wanna spend or undergo surgeries. Yet i hate it and want it to go :( any help appreciated! Asked by Someone4evr - Wed Aug 22 22:54:38 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Buy a boottle of Vitamin E Oil. It's cheap, so you can get the 56,000 units (the more units the better it is) and apply faithfully every day. Apply at least twice a day and 3 or 4 times if possible. It will take a while, but you've lived with it this long. Just try to get the pure kind that has no other oils combined with it. If it is not thick, it usually has safflower oil in it and that weakens it because it's just another softening additive. It's about $3 to $5 at Walmart or any drugstore.
