How do you choose the best home-school program?
Q. I am thinking about home-schooling my children, ages 7 and 11, and I know there are different curriculum's for homeschool. I don't know where to go to find out about homeschooling resources or how to compare the different programs. In addition, what resources are available to home-school parents? How can you suplement the social aspects, art, PE, and other programs offered in school. I would like to find the program that is right for my children and encorporate all of the additional activities to create a well rounded education for them.

A. The first thing you need to do is figure out what your kids' learning styles are. For example, you might have a visual-tactile learner, who needs lots of hands-on work. The other child might be an auditory learner who needs to hear the information. You do not need to buy a packaged curriculum for your kids, although many people do. The advantage of such curriculums is that they do the work for you - in a sense. Everything you need - if you like the curriculum - arrives in boxes at your home. The disadvantages are that they are expensive and might night fit your child's learning sytle or the subject matter you wish your child to learn. Here is a site with many reviews of such materials: Socialization is easy. There is a big, wide,… [cont.]

What is national accreditted online school program?
Q. I found a college in Colorado that offer Associates degree in Health information Technology. They are nationally accreditted. They are online school. What do you think, is it good idea to get associates through them or any other national accreditted online schools. I already have Assoicates in Liberal Arts. I wanted to get another Associates degree without leaving the house (perhaps online program) and taking my time, because i have 2 six-month old babies. Any good school you have in mind, i don't $300 credit school. Thanks

A. You'd have more options if you instead did an online degree through a regionally accredited school. A lot of employers don't recognize degrees from nationally accredited schools, and in many cases, you can't transfer those credits to other schools if, for example, you decided to go on for a bachelor's. So I'd rather you found a two year school that offered degrees online, and which is regionally accredited. Check your local community college. Mine - SUNY Orange - offers degrees online. Many do. And those are appropriately accredited. New York University also offers associates degrees online, via continuing education. Not cheap, though. It's hard to do a web search and come up with good schools. Most of the schools that come up via "on [cont.]

How do I begin an after school program?
Q. I am interested in starting my own after school program. Not something that I go through using the school's money, but my own organization. Where do I begin?
Asked by QT D Bomb - Sun Feb 25 14:17:04 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Contact local schools to see if they are interested, they can put out feelers to see whether it is something thie kids would attend. Get in contact with other local organisations (ie if you want to run a sports club, contact a sporting club for advice) and take it from there. Good luck with it.

How can I get government funding for an after-school program in New York City?
Q. I own a children's gymnasium in New York City and I would like to start a free after-school program a few days a week. Does anyone know who I can contact to get government funding for this program, whether it be local, state, or federal?
Asked by Paul G - Wed Oct 22 23:58:58 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Check your city and county websites for available funding. You will probably need to get a fiscal sponsor (a 501(c)3 organization) that will administer the grant money since you are not a nonprofit. You can also search for available grants at our website (free!) under "Youth Development" in New York. The database lists grants for nonprofit organizations, but maybe you'll get some ideas for what is out there.

How Do I Create an After School Program?
Q. I have a great idea for starting an after-school program for a variety of schools in my community. I have a great idea for a central location, but am concerned about how I can get kids to my location without their parents having to leave work and get there. Is there any way I can arrange with the schools to drop off their children at my facility? Would the school board be willing to do something like that? Does anyone have any ideas?

A. Charge tuition to the parents and lease a few mini-vans for the business. You can advertise on the side of the vans and put flyers in the school's front office. Best of luck to you!

Where can I find a reputable online high school program for my homeschooling son? One that is affordable, also
Q. I am trying to look ahead my son is in the 7th grade this year. We do not have the connections academy in our state. I would like a high school program that is delivered through the internet, either through computer interaction that he can get credit for and graduate with a high school diploma. My son has no problem with social situations that is just ignorance talking, he is active in football, scouts, and many more things that keep us in constant contact with the social element. By homeschooling him ,I am giving him an advantage that many others do not have. He is ahead of other kids his age, and is looking forward to graduating early so he can start on college and pursue his dream. I would not call that socailly inept.

A. foxfire isn't so great at all. It kept crashing my computer. As for IE 7 or 8, you should be able to use IE 8 and set it so that your school website is ran in IE 7 compatibility mode. Click the page button in the IE 8 toolbar when you are logged into the school website, then click compatibility view settings, you should see the website address with an add button next to it. click add. That should take care of the problem.

Should the government attach money to the school or to the kids to select the best educational program?
Q. Is it better, when schools automatically get money from the government so they can do whatever and continue losing ground like they have been for the past few decades. Or Have the money attached to the kids so that parents select which public schools, private schools, charter schools, or accreted home school program would best benefit their kids creating a competitive environment where they are all in competition to serve the kids?
