Canada

In Canada secondary school refers to high school (grades 9-12).

England and Wales

In England and Wales, secondary school is for children from the ages of 11 to 16 or 18.[1] Secondary school incorporates Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 of the National Curriculum (year 7 to Year 11) and can also include sixth form. After 16, compulsory education ends, and young people can decide whether to continue their studies further, either at school or sixth form college, or enter the world of work.

Presently, secondary schools have 7 grades (Form/Secondary 1-7), but starting from school year 2009-2010, the 3-3-4 scheme will be implemented, and Form 4-6 will be changed into Senior Secondary 1-3, while Form 7 will be cancelled and universities will provide 4 years of education instead of the present 3 years.

United States

In the United States, the term can refer to two types of schools. The first type is the same thing as a high school (grades 9-12) while the second type refers to an alternative school which is sometimes called a secondary school. For example, the school "Richmond Secondary" refers to the a traditional high school, while "Richmond Secondary School" refers to an alternative school.

What are the requirements to become a secondary school history teacher for a US citizen?
Q. I am currently attending Virginia State University in the US and majoring in history. What would be the process and requirements to teach history permanently in the UK at the secondary school level? I'm 19 years old and in my freshman year so any help would be appreciated so that I can turn my higher education in the right direction to accomplish my goals. I've always dreamed of becoming a teacher and always dreamed of living in the UK so I thought why not combine the two. Thanks friends across the Atlantic.

A. I think that you would struggle to get United Kingdom citizenship, or a work visa. Teaching requirements here. Immigration info here.
