How do I change the point slope equation to a slope intercept of a form equation??
Q. This is the point slope equation: y - 2 = 2 ( x + 4), and I need to change it into a slope intercept equation? Can I do this without subtracting or adding numbers from each side? Is there another way? Thank you for everyone who actually answered my question.
Asked by Katia - Thu Jan 17 13:11:41 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. y - 2 = 2(x + 4) y - 2 = 2x + 8 y = 2x + 8 + 2 y = 2x + 10

How do you find the slope intercept form?
Q. I'm trying to do a math project and part of it is to find the slope intercept form of certain line. This question is: a line with the y-intercept (0,8) and the x intercept (-2,0) I've asked my parents, siblings and even googled it but can't figure out how to solve the problem. Any help?

A. Slope intercept form is y=mx + b where b is your y value when x=0 (thus the y intercept). We know that b=8 since at y=8, x=0 (this was given) All we need to know is the slope m. This can be found with the equation (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) No matter what the points look like. Substituting: (8-0)/(0-(-2))=8/2=4. So m =4. The equation is thus y=4x+8

How do you change an equation into slope intercept form?
Q. I know slope intercept form is y=mx+b, but when I have an equation such as 3x+2y=10 or x+2y=2 I can't change it into slope intercept form to save my life and to solve the rest of the problem you have to change it into that format. And can you please tell me how x+3y=7 becomes y=-1/3x+7/3? I don't understand how you get a fraction for that answer. Thanks.
Asked by James - Thu Sep 18 21:23:30 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Very simple x + 3y = 7 subtract the x to the other side 3y = -x + 7 divide by 3 y = (-x +7)/3 or you can put it your way y = -x/3 + 7/3 3x + 2y = 10 subtract 3x to other side 2y = -3x + 10 divide by 2 y = -3x/2 + 5 (10/2) = 5 x + 2y = 2 subtract x 2y = x+2 divde by 2 y = x/2 + 1 (2/2) = 1

How do I plot a line using slope-intercept form?
Q. I know how to plot the y-intercept but am unsure how to plot the slope when a negative number or fraction is involved. For example, y = -1/3 + 6. How do you plot a slope of -1/3? Do you rise 1 or fall 1? Do you run 3 units to the right or run 3 units to the left? Please give me the rules for plotting negative numbers and fractions as slopes. Thanks!
Asked by Mae - Fri Sep 11 08:09:42 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. if you have a problem like y=-1/3x + 6 you should know the slope-intercept formula y=mx+b. m=the slope and b= the y-intercept you plot the y-int. which is 6 on the y-axis then you use rise/run (and if it is not a fraction like -1/3 then the bottom number or denominator is one) you would go down 1 (because if it is negative you go down instead of up) and right 3 (because if it is positive you go right instead of left)

Q. 3/4x+3/5y-8=0 How to write in slope intercept form? I know Slope intercept form is mx+b but I've never seen a problem like this before. Help.
Asked by alfeebester - Sun Jun 7 22:31:30 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You rearrange the problem so y equals the rest of the equation. Slope intercept form is y=mx+b. For your example, you want to start by adding 8 to both sides. It will look like this: 3/4x + 3/5y - 8 = 0 +8 +8 3/4x + 3/5y = 8 Next, subtract 3/4x from both sides, like this: 3/4 + 3/5y = 8 -3/4x -3/4x 3/5y = -3/4x +8 Finally, divide the entire equation by 3/5. This will make some messy fractions. 3/5y = -3/4x +8 y = -5/4x + 40/3

A. If m is the slope, and c the y-intercept, then the equation of the line is y = m x + c...(1) Then, if c is the first term and x is the common difference of an A.P., its (n)th term y is y = c + ( n-1)x, i.e., y = (n-1)x + c...(2) What strikes you most is the similarity of appearance of these two equations (1) and (2). But that is also the only attribute they have in common. If there is any correlation between them at all, then it must be only ' spurious ' in nature. This is because y in (1) is a continuous variate whereas y in (2) is a discreet variate. Glad To Be Of Help.

A. You have 2 points, (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) and you want to find the equation of the line that goes through these points. The first thing you want to do is find the slope. slope is rise/run so m = (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) For slope intercept form , y = mx + b where m is the slope, and b is the y intercept now that you have found the slope, you can solve for b, the y intercept by plugging in your value for m and one of the given points, either (x1,y1) or (x2,y2). For point slope form, y - K = m(x - H) m is the slope, and (H,K) is a point that the line passes through. Since you have already calculated the slope, m, for the slope intercept form, you're already almost done. All you have to do is plug in the point (x1,y1) or (x2,y2). In your question,… [cont.]
