When performing a Sodium Iodide in Acetone test, why is it SO important that the test tube is so dry? They are not soluble in acetone unlike KI, and so they precipitate. However as you may guess they are soluble in water, so if your test tube is not dry, you may have a false negative result even if KCl or KBr does form! Hey, Anyone have any ideas on this question :/ I'm really stuck. But whoever answers can you make it understandable, i want to understand it before i write it down. If you mix aqueous bromine with an iodide solution, the bromine will oxidise the iodide to iodine, while being reduced to bromide. Br2(aq) + 2I-(aq) 2Br-(aq) + I2(aq) This will give a brown colour. Q. How could you distinguish sodium chloride (table salt) from sodium iodide ( a poison ) ?? Asked by Litoallie - Mon Apr 16 01:57:04 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Sodium Iodide is Hygroscopic (absobs atmospheric moisture), whereas Sodium Chloride is not Hygroscopic. By the way, Sodium Iodide is used in treatment of Iodine deficiency and is not poisonous in small amounts.
