A. I'm not going to do your stoichiometry homework for you. Do it yourself, that's how you learn. Give a man a fish... or let him open his chemistry book and figure out how to cook. That's how it goes, right? EDIT: Then write what you got, and we can check it, that way nobody risks academic misconduct.

A. Your chemistry book should explain to you the different types of chemical reactions. For example, the 5 types of reactions are: (1)Combination / Synthesis (2)Decomposition (3)Combustion (4)Single Replacement (5)Double Replacement It is hard to show you how to balance equations on the computer, but you book should explain it to you too.

Asked by nbug - Wed Sep 27 19:44:35 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Actually the colour would be a good guide before you added anything! But moving right along, since BaSO4 is a white ppte, first add potassium sulfate to some of the solution. If no reaction, add zinc bromide. A reaction producing a brown colour would indicate Cu^2+: 2Cu^2+ + 4B6^- ---> 2CuBr + Br2 If no reaction, add sodium chloride. If the iron solution is present as Fe^3+, then addition of Cl^- should produce a yellowish solution due to formation of [FeCl4]^- I hope that helps.

A. That's a pretty tall order. I'm not going to do all of these reactions for you and I doubt anyone else will be too keen on it. You need to work on writing the formulas from the names. Then you need to consider what occurs in a double replacement (metathesis) reaction. The positive "ion" of one compound will combine with the negative "ion" of the second compound and vice versa. You must pay attention to the oxidation numbers of each "ion" and adjust the subscript so that the total of the oxidation numbers adds up to zero. Look at the links provided here:
