What software are there to track which websites a wireless router user has visited?
Q. I am looking for software that can track the websites and webpages a user has visited. For example, I am operating a wireless router that connects 5-7 users to the Internet. I am interested in what are these people are doing with my wireless service, as in are they abusing the wireless service that I am providing to them? I am interested in how much time they are spending on the Internet, what websites they have visited or the webpages they are surfing and if they are downloading materials. I know that such software are available on the open market but so far, I'm not sure where to find them. I am hoping for examples of such software that I can use. Furthermore, I also wonder if the users on my wireless router can block such tracking… [cont.]

A. One solution is to setup a transparent proxy. This can be done as to not interfere with access but can provide all sorts of data including every web access or you can restrict certain sites if you really want to. There are several add-ons that have been done for squid to provide reporting from the logs that it can keep. A side benefit is that using caching you can maximize bandwidth and make browsing effectively quicker for sites that are visited frequently or by multiple users. This is basically a free solution. Any, say, old pentium machine with decent network cards, a fair amount of memory, HD space and Linux loaded on it can handle this. You could also use something like tcpdump (a packet capture utility) which can monitor *all*… [cont.]

What software and drivers do I need to connect my Motorola Razr v3r to my computer?
Q. I want to use it as a drive, and as a modem. I would also like to be able to charge it with the computer, transfer files, etc., but I have not been able to locate any of the software through Motorola. I don't have the CD that came with it. Does anyone have a link to these software and drivers?

A. You should be able to download the software available for Moto Razr, click here to download the proper driver. As for transfer files, etc...according to Moto site, it says "Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) can be purchased from the motostore. It is available as a software download or as a CD-ROM that can be sent directly to you. Note: MPT can also be purchased at participating Best Buy stores nationwide." Here's the link to the motostore so, if I were you, I would just buy a MicroSD card, (by 1 or 2 Gig, 4 or more gigs are HCSD (High Capacity Secure Disk), not not sure if your Rarz supports HCSD cards), 2 gig would be enough. Plug this MicroSD into the card reader, transfer all the files you want to this card, then plug this card into… [cont.]

A. Secure Cam is a motion detecting web cam surveillance software that can automatically capture a series of images whenever motion is detected in the monitored area. You can adjust the detection sensitivity, automatically archive captured still images and playback the images in sequence with the supplied viewer application. Secure Cam can monitor and display up to 99...etc. Freeware. Other items there also; pick & choose.

How to switch from software to pharmaceutical technical writing?
Q. I am currently a technical writer for a software company in the mobile technologies industry. I am young and early in my career and see growth in the pharmaceuticals sector in my career time, and so would like to switch into technical writing for a biotech/pharmaceutical company. I think the software industry is slowly dying. How do I go about making this transition? Will my experience in software technical writing automatically translate, or will employers be seeking any additional skills? Thanks in advance for your help!

A. Frankly, I will advise you to stick to software. But, if you want a career progression, you can either try your hand at getting some certifications for pharmaceutical writing or shift to the position of a business analyst in your current domain of mobile technology. Software is one field that is dependent on the whole economy. So the chances of your not getting work in the software industry are directly related to economic conditions. Pharmaceuticals offer good work, but they wont ever pay you as much as you can earn by going onsite for a year or two through an IT company. With regards to your question, if you have knowledge of pharmaceuticals, you will not face much of a problem and you will be able to shift domains. Otherwise, you… [cont.]

You may be able to search the Internet and find one for sale, I was unable to find any when I looked although I know they are out there. Q. the software that came with it is not working, so i need to know what will.
Asked by Cecilia - Mon Oct 12 14:27:02 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you are using a Windows/Vista computer, probably none. You need to convert the video to a file type and format the video editor can use. MovieMaker likes WMV files (among others). MPEG StreamClip works well If you are using an Apple Macintosh computer, that should work directly with iMovie. If not, You can use MPEG StreamClip to convert them, too.

What is the easiest software for creating a good digital model of a room?
Q. I need to create a digital model of an existing room, including positioning of the existing decoration (paintings, architectural ornamentation) on the walls and ceiling. Ideally, I'd like to end up with a digital model which will allow me to see how things are positioned in space from different viewpoints. Is there an easy software program which will do this, or is it worthwhile to hire someone experienced in CAD software to do it?

A. If you are looking for easy and cheap you can go with Google Sketchup, which should do the job (especially if it is just for visualizing). It is a free download and I'd say the learning curve for what you want to do might be about an hour. You can download it here: Chris

Q. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49 usb keyboard. It came with several programs with it to teach piano, but none of them will allow me to simply plug it in and play with sound coming out of the speakers. Is there any software out there (would like free or very cheap) that can do this. Should mention it is for a PC, with either xp or vista.
