Nounsurroundings
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Surroundings are the area around a given physical or geographical point or place. The exact definition depends on the field. Surroundings can also be used in geography (when it is more precisely known as vicinity, or vicinage) and mathematics, as well as philosophy, with the literal or metaphorically extended definition. In thermodynamics, the term (and its synonym, environment) is used in a more restricted sense, meaning everything outside the thermodynamic system. Often, the simplifying assumptions are that energy and matter may move freely within the surroundings, and that the surroundings have a uniform composition. GNU Free Documentation License Do you think the surroundings of a fish enhances and decreases their energy level? Q. I've been doing a little testing with my new betta, Serendipity. When under my light, she seems to sluggish. When she's on my desk on the other side of the room, she's extremely active. Do you think the surroundings, lighting, and people affect how the fish act? Do you think it's the same with all fish or just bettas? Asked by Shan F - Wed Mar 18 22:27:01 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes they do. I think all fish would be affected by the environment the tank is in. Answered by ufknrun - Wed Mar 18 22:32:58 2009 Helium in a toy balloon does of work on its surroundings as it expands with a constant pressure? Q. Helium in a toy balloon does 3.30 X 10^2 J of work on its surroundings as it expands with a constant pressure of 2.51 X 10^5 Pa in excess of atmospheric pressure. The balloon's final volume is 1.5 X 10^-3 m3. From this information, determine the initial volume of the gas in the balloon. Asked by John L - Tue Jan 15 19:31:30 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The work done by a constant-pressure expansion process is given by: w = P * delta-V where P is the pressure and delta-V is the change in volume. w = P*(V_final - V_initial) V_initial = V_final - w/P In this case, P = 2.51*10^5 Pa + 1 atm = 2.51*10^5 Pa + 1.01*10^5 Pa P = 3.52*10^5 Pa Plugging this, and the other values given in the question into the equation for V_initial above, we have: V_initial = 1.5*10^-3 m^3 - (3.30*10^2 J)/(3.52*10^5 Pa) V_initial = 5.62*10^-4 m^3 Answered by hfshaw - Tue Jan 15 19:40:41 2008 How can I make my cat comfortable in its new surroundings?
Q. My six year old cat is adjusting to the new house and backyard wonderfully, but my two year old, Ginger, just doesn't seem to be happy here. Ginger is a Manx and this is her first move. She is an indoor/ outdoor cat. She meows incessantly if she's kept inside and then disappears for hours if I let her outside. At our old house, she had a hiding place under the house and was always nearby. When I came home from work she was usually waiting for me at the backdoor or would immediately come to me if I called her. Do you have any suggestions for maybe building an outside "safe haven" for her so she's comfortable and doesn't feel the need to hang out in the neighbors yard. I fear she'll decide to live with someone else!!! Asked by Jeanie D - Sat Apr 21 21:26:07 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. The idea of constructing a safe den for her is a good one. I'd put some of her bedding or something that has your odor on it in the shelter, both to reassure her and so that she can find her way back there by smell. Personally, I would not let a cat, especially an unhappy one, out in a new neighborhood. Sometimes they try to go back to the house where they were happier. I own a Manx and have had several over the years, and they're strong-willed cats. Sometimes you just can't keep them inside if they're determined to go out. There are products available to soothe an anxious cat. They are synthetic versions of the pheromones that are produced by glands near the cats' whiskers. They produce a calm happy feeling in cats (this is… [cont.] Answered by Kayty - Sat Apr 21 22:24:21 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "surroundings" This image from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter shows the ...
