Do teacher assistants get paid holidays and vacations in public schools?
Q. Also, can a person work for many years as a teacher assistant in the same school?
Asked by shelly - Mon Oct 1 14:26:56 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Teachers and their assistants get paid for the actual days they work. There are no paid vacations or holidays. In my district, teachers are paid for the 187 days they work during the year. They are not paid for 365 days like so many people seem to think. Teacher assistants are on the same schedule. And yes, many stay in one school for several years.

What NC law states teacher assistants in special ed (EC) classrooms must have a substitute when they are out?
Q. NC Senate Bill 1008--a bill to grant T.A.s in special ed classes personal leave---makes a cryptic comment about teacher assistants in EC classrooms are required to be given substitutes when they are out of the classroom. I'm looking for the law that states this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are any of you teachers or teacher assistants with a AA degree in education? ?
Q. I hope you do not mind me asking this, but if you are a teacher or a teacher assistant; how much do you get paid an hour or in salary with a AA degree in elementary education or early childhood education? Are you working in a child care facility or in a public school as a teacher or an assistant? I am wondering because, I want to start off with a AA degree in elementary education or early childhood education. I suppose it is depending on what state you live in as well, I am from Arizona.

A. I don't have that many answers to offer you, buI can say this: to be the actual teacher you need more than an AA degree. And in my district, teachers start at about 41,000 a year. The teacher assistants at the public schools in my area get between 10 to 13 an hour. If you decide to specialize in special education, you might make more.

Q. I'm a teacher's assistant and she tends to give me more work than her other assts. Why is that..i'm also in her 1st block. We've known each other since last school year.
Asked by sweetchick - Sat Sep 2 15:48:40 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I have student aides and they always ask if I have things for them to do. There is one student in particular that I prefer to do the work because she does it RIGHT. When some of the others ask if I have anything I either give them something that I will not have to redo or fix or I tell them that there is nothing to do right now.

What is the average pay for a teacher assistant in Florida? What qualifications are needed?
Q. I am a freshman at FIU who plans to major in education. Id like to become a teachers assistant at a local school. How should I go about applying? Aside from elementary, do high schools also regularly hire assistants? What are the job duties like? I have no experience aside from my future academic goals, what courses/licenses or other requirements are needed to be considered? More importantly what is the pay like, I am looking for something full time around the $10 hr mark, is this too ambitious? Thanks for your time ; )

X-mas gift for my son's preschool teacher, and assistants?
Q. I want to get my son's preschool teacher and his helpers something for the holiday's this year as a way of saying thanks for all theyve done for us. His teacher is male, and one assistant is male and other female...what are some budget worthy ideas to get them all for the holiday's without seeming like a suck-up?
Asked by clubsandra - Mon Nov 20 00:24:55 2006 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ok, I'm a preschool teacher. I would suggest to ask your child to make a cute hand made card for the teachers and sign their name, do a cute little picture! The teachers will love that. If you want to buy a gift, gift certificates are usually most appreciated...Starbucks, Target, Borders Books...somewhere like that. It doesn't have to be for much, just $10, esp if it is Starbucks, that will buy a few coffees or tea's. In your card write a kind word or two, how you appreciate them! Teachers LOVE to hear that! I always keep such lovely cards I get from parents and kids! I wouldn't say candles, we get so many of those! ps, I LOVE the Dunkin Donuts answer suggested above!

A. If you already have an associate's, you may qualify for a teacher's aide (public schools tend to call them 'teacher aides' or 'instructional assistants') position. There is a paraprofessional test to take though not sure if one needs to take it if have a two year degree. Just a word to the wise about online schools and to steer clear of online, for profit schools such as university of phoenix, strayer, ITT tech, devry, kaplan, capella, keiser as they are out to 'make a profit'. A. Dedicated aides tend to earn the same as an other classroom aides. The things that can effect the salary would be prior experience, any specialized training or college classes/degrees you may have and how long you have been working in that particular school district. Most aides seem to earn somewhere between $20,000-$30,000 a year, depending on the state and district. The school should tell you your salary when they offered you the position and you should be able to find out the salary range for that job by looking it up on the school districts website or by calling the district personel office. Keep in mind that most aide salaries are determined by the factors above...there is little "negotiation" room with them. Also, you will need… [cont.]

A. The word interview itself makes a person tense and nervous who needs to appear in the interview. It is normal human behaviour to become confused or get tensed but such things can be overcome with practice, learning from seniors and elders, thru own experience. At my time internet was not available. These days Internet is a rich source of information. U can learn many things about the interview by visiting the websites the links of which are given below. On some websites u will find questions also along with answers which are frequently asked and questions pertaining to ur requirement can also be found there provided u surf on them thoroughly and consciously. It will improve ur performance remarkably. It will infuse a high level of… [cont.]

A. it is great you are considering this. there is a worsening shortage of male teachers in many places and teacher assistants. if more males were interested, it would give children a more balanced role model. sorry, I dont know of the site, but there is usually a contact us link on any reasonable web page. perhaps you could email them and asked your questions.

A. Teacher assistants provide instructional and clerical support for classroom teachers, allowing teachers more time for lesson planning and teaching. They support and assist children in learning class material using the teacher s lesson plans, providing students with individualized attention. Teacher assistants also supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, and hallways, or on field trips; they record grades, set up equipment, and help prepare materials for instruction. Teacher assistants also are called teacher aides or instructional aides. Some assistants refer to themselves as paraeducators or paraprofessionals. Some teacher assistants perform exclusively noninstructional or clerical tasks, such as monitoring nonacademic settings.… [cont.]

A. Bookish has no clue about this lol. No, you dont need to take the Praxis in most cases. But- you DO need to have at least 30 semester credits from a university to be considered Highly Qualified, the minimum status to get hired as an assistant. Thus, if you dont have that- you can still become an assistant and get that HQ status with the following: -You need to take a teacher assistant test, which most states offer at local colleges for something like 30 bucks (your responsible for that fee). Its an easy test, it covers mainly middle school/low high school type english and math just to ensure your literate. Its similar to the PRAXIS 1, but MUCH shorter. Many states then will require you to submit those results to the district you wish to… [cont.]

A. I am a teacher. I look for someone who has her pulse on the classroom and is observant of what the children are doing and can step in and assist a child who may be in need without me having to prompt her all the time. I need someone who is low maintenance without being pushy. I really look for someone who likes the students and really wants to help and knows her stuff.
