Q. If I take the ferry, which ports should I use and how long should I allow for travel? Asked by kfrancon - Wed Jun 3 00:08:34 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'll assume you're driving. Downtown Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay: 1/2 hour unless it's rush hour, then it could easily be an hour. If you don't have a reservation, be there at least 45 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure, maybe much more on or near a weekend especially Thursday and Friday evening leaving Horseshoe Bay. Ferry travel: about 2 hours from the time it leaves the dock till you drive off. Driving time to Port McNeill from Nanaimo: about 4 hours, and once you get clear of Nanoose Bay the speed limit on Hwy 19 is 110 kmh and it's easy driving. No gas stations on Hwy 19 betweeen just north of Nanoose Bay and Campbell River unless you get off the highway.
