How small is theta in sin theta during circular motion?
Q. We always assume 'when theta is very small' and all, but how small is SMALL? A range of figures might be good, as well as some references as how you got to that answer. Many thanks!
Asked by randomlyinspired - Sat Feb 21 04:53:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. theres no hard and fast answer to that question, as the relationship between 'theta' and 'sin theta' is an approximate one, or to put it another way, the smaller theta is then, the 'more true' is that theta equals sin theta. try it on your calculator, remembering to work in radians. just choose a small angle and find its sine and see how closely the two agree, then choose a smaller theta and find the sine and you'll see that the agreement is better the smaller you go.

How many community service hours are sufficient for Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta and I am a sophomore in college. In high school i did a lot of community service, but i didn't do alot my Freshman year of college. This year, which is my sophomore year, i am in a service fraternity and am volunteering every week. So my question is, what will be the minimum amount of community service that i need to apply for membership?
Asked by Gobberele J - Wed Oct 31 02:48:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. We require at least one continuous year of service with the same organization within the past 3 years. Some organizations, like churches, don't count, but I can't remember the specifics. Sometimes they are very particular. They want to see that you are doing the service on your own, not because an organization requires it, so they may or may not count your work with the service frat. The best service is when you go as an individual to volunteer...like at the Boys and Girls Club, or as a Big Sister, or at a museum. Your high school service probably won't count. You may have to wait until next year, but you will find out at Rush because you will have the opportunity to ask questions. good luck...

How would it be viewed if someone applies to multiple Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae chapters?
Q. In my county there are 2 Alumnae chapters of Delta Sigma Theta. According to one chapter president I would qualify for them both because of my residency. Would it be viewed negatively if I were to attend RUSH for or apply to both chapters?
Asked by AshantiCole - Wed Dec 31 11:26:37 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Usually, chapters don't overlap with Membership Intake. If one chapter has one in the fall, the other won't have one til the spring or the next year. My advice to you is go with the best fit for you. You can attend the Rush for both if you like but there you can get a feel for the members of each chapter. I wouldn't recommend applying to both. Not that it would be viewed negatively but some members may see it is merely wanting to be a part of DST by any means.

A. "A real-valued function f defined on a set D of real numbers is a rule that assigns to each number x in D exactly one real number, denoted by f(x)."[edwards, 2] The very definition of a function implies that the function is defined on a domain. "it is common to use an expression like, "the function f(x) = x2" to define a function merely by writing its formula. In this situation the domain of the function is not specified. Then, by convention, the domain of the function f is the set of all real numbers x for which the expression f(x) makes sense and produces a real number y."

How do i become a new member of delta sigma theta at the graduate level?
Q. I am very interested in membership into Delta Sigma Theta. However all my friends joined other sororites and I do not know any members. I have wanted to be a part of this organizations for years but I did not feel that i was mature enough to show my interested at that time.I have now graduated from college and would love to become a member. Could anyone give me some advice on the steps on how to become a member? Any information would be appreciated.

A. Visit the offcial website, www.deltasigmatheta.org, to find out information on how to become a member. Also make sure you are doing volunteer work within your community. We are a public service organization and we extend membership to young ladies that serve their community. If you are actively doing volunteer work then you will meet a Delta.

A. @=theta divide each side by cos(@) next divide each side by 2 you get that sin(@)/cos(@)=5/2 sin is opposite over hypotenuse. cos is adjacent over hypotenuse. opposite adjacent --- / --- = opposite over adjacent= tan=5/2 hypotenuse hypotenuse this all means that tan^-1(5/2)=@=~68.19859

To get the best view of the statue of liberty, you should be at the position where angle theta is a maximum?
Q. If the statue stands 92 meters high, including the pedestal, which is 46 meters high, how far from the base should you be? Hint: Find a formula for angle theta in terms of your distance from the base. Use this function to maximize theta, noting that theta is greater than or equal to 0 and less than or equal to pi/2.
Asked by ben_ev0lent - Fri Nov 10 09:15:18 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are missing a constraint in your problem. If your only constraints are - theta must be less than or equal to pi/2 - you want to maximize theta then theta = pi/2. So how far should you be? 0 meters.

A. You can use the INVERSE sin and INVERSE cos functions. Also know as sin(-1) and cos(-1) For what angle THETA does sin = -1? 270 degrees. For what angle THETA does cos= 0? 90 and 270 degrees. If sin(theta) = 1/2 then theta=30 degrees.

Do I need special connections to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Alpha Chapter?
Q. I don't really know any important deltas. I do have two cousins who are members of Delta Sigma Theta, but not the Alpha Chapter at Howard. I would really like to pledge at Howard.
Asked by WC - Mon May 26 17:14:11 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. No, you do not need "special connections" to become a member of DST. Have you reached out to your cousins who are deltas and made them aware of your interests? I am sure my sorors would tell you the same. With that being said I will say since you are attending Howard and interested in joining Alpha Chapter, there are a few things I will suggest. Get involved on campus as soon as possible. There are many other organizations that you can become apart of. Also I would get to know my sorors on your campus. This is VERY important because as I have stated before on this answer board, you can meet the requirements of becoming a member of DST but if you don't have the majority vote then it doesn't matter. As long as you have a great solid gpa,… [cont.]

What are the costs of joining Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am a student hoping to pledge Delta Sigma Theta (DST), but I do not know if I could financially be capable of paying whatever intake fees there are. I make good grades and am involved on my campus, but very short on funds. Is there anyone that can give me a ball park idea of the fees that I would incur in the beginning? Also if the fees are especially high are there scholarships available or any other options that would be recommended?
Asked by N Y - Mon Jan 28 16:05:16 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Hi there, Unfortunately, the price of joining Delta Sigma Theta is privilege information. My best and advice to you is to attend the information/Rush on your campus. The information you will need will be provided there. Also we do not give scholarships for people to go through MIP. I have heard of people taking additional educational loans to pay for the process, so that could be an option for you. Good luck to you!

Does theta cancel itself on a put option spread when both are the same?
Q. Sold a bull put spread and the theta on both puts was the same, so everyday that passes, does the theta not matter for the higher strike since the lower strike is the same?
Asked by linda101 - Wed Nov 26 13:14:57 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Short answer, yes. Long answer: At the time that you sold the spread, theta was neutralized by offsetting positions, but it will not remain neutral until expiration. As the stock price changes the theta of each leg will change at a different rate. If implied volatility changes that will also have an influence on theta.

How to write r=4 sin(theta) with rectangular coordinates?
Q. How can I write the equation r= 4 sin(theta) with rectangular coordinates? I know that I need to convert this polar equation to an equation with x and y, but I do not understand how to do it. Thank you in advance for your help!
Asked by CoinGirl12 - Sun Aug 12 22:26:28 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Write the equation r = 4sin with rectangular coordinates. Remember the identities. x = rcos y = rsin x + y = r ___ r = 4sin Multiply both sides by r. r = 4rsin x + y = 4y x + y - 4y = 0 x + (y - 4y + 4) = 0 + 4 x + (y - 2) = 4 This is the equation of a circle with center (0,2) and radius 2.

A. If you get asked to join any kind of honor society or co-ed club that is based on gpa, I would suggest joining it because it will look good on your resume`. This shows responsibility and leadership, two qualities that all employers are looking for in their candidates for the job.

A. 15 = rcos and 20 = rsin => tan = (rsin ) / (rcos ) = 20 / 15 = 4/3 => cot = 3/4 => csc = 1 + cot = 1 + (3/4) => csc = 25/16 => csc = 5/4 [Note: Positive because r>0 => cos and sin > 0 => is in the first quadrant.]

What angle theta does the ray refracted into the water make with the normal to the surface?
Q. Use 1.33 for the index of refraction of water. A plate of glass with parallel faces having a refractive index of 1.56 is resting on the surface of water in a tank. A ray of light coming from above in air makes an angle of incidence 37.5 degrees with the normal to the top surface of the glass. Express your answer in degrees.. thank you!
Asked by Olivia:) - Mon Mar 9 12:27:38 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Use this equation n1 x sin i = n2 x sin r In each case n1 is the refractive index of the medium the light is leave, n2 is the refractive index of the medium the light is about to enter. sin i = sine of incident angle of ray, sin r = sine of refracted angle of ray. That should be enough to get you there.
