Q. i am dismantling cold storage unit. the outside is the compressor with two lines feeding the freon to the cooling unit. what is the best way to disconnect the compressor from the unit inside. i am moving the entire cooling unit and need to separate the compressor and cooler. what is the best way without getting freon leaking out. Asked by spscully10 - Wed Jun 6 04:47:41 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. You can close the liquid line service valve and run the unit. This will pump the refrigerant into the condenser and or receiver. But seriously... I think you should get someone that is EPA certified to help with this portion of the work. The certification is required by the Gov. when handling refrigerants. Also please be advised that you are dealing with very high pressure's and could get yourself or someone else hurt if you make a mistake. Q. We want to install our own unit in a 2600 Sq foot home that has no ducts. Anyone have any idea what the estimated cost of installing a typical unit would be? Or if using a no duct system how many BTU's might be needed to cool/heat this type of square footage? Also are there any websites with instructions on installing ducts in a home? We are very hands on do it yourselfers who are buying a historic home and want to be sure it is nice and cooled/heated! Asked by jennanna - Mon Jul 31 23:13:35 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. generally speaking for the furnace multiply the sq footage x 40 to get your btu input 2,600 x 40 = roughly 105,000 input. as for the central air divide sq ft x 600 = 4.3 ton . but since they don't make a 4.3 ton i would say a 5 ton would be just fine. also make sure the furnace blower is capable of moving enough air. that's about 400 cfm per ton of cooling. like i said in the beginning this is just a general rule of thumb that i have used for years. and there are a lot of different factors for every new home. like were you live etc... hope i helped you out.
