Has the united states isolated itself from the rest of the world economically?
Q. Our allies are investing heavily in Sudan, but the United States doesn't. Are we so isolated from investing in unfriendly countries do to our policies that we have become our own worst enemy and virtually guaranteed our economic collapse? I should have said that Sudan was just an example. This question isn't limited to Sudan.
Asked by OU812 - Fri Dec 15 02:04:34 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Undeniably and irrefutably no. We live in what is percieved as a post-modern society because we have, supposedly, abandoned all guiding meta-narratives - except this isn't precisely true, because Globalization (of the marketplace, if nothing else) is a greater meta-narrative than any of its predecessors. The American economy is very much engaged, indeed almost dependant upon, foreign influence, provision and investment. Having said that, refusing to invest in Sudan will hardly lead to economic collapse. There are far greater threats to our national economy than that. For instance, every President since Richard Nixon has reduced the overall value of the dollar, increased the Federal Budget deficit, and weakened the American trade… [cont.]

A. Well the War with Mexico War ended in 1848, nd by then Texas was already annexed to USA. That happened in 1845. The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1850, and that was the deal about slavery in the western territories. USA took a whole chunk of land from Mexico at the end of the War with Mexico, and USA did not know what to do about slavery in that area. So that was the major problem USA had: whether slavery should be allowed in the Western Territory

It's based on manipulation and exploitation of our desires and weaknesses and gullibility. we are constantly being told that we need every conceivable consumer product, most of which we soon throw away, depleting our resources, destroying ecosytems, and not really in our best interest economically. How will a United States economic collapse affect Asia?
Q. Apparently, from what I've heard the United States is headed for an economic collapse. What I want to know is how will an Economic Collapse affect Asia? According to Peter Schiff, Asian currency will rise as the US dollar falls. China is looking to be a world economic leader and would lead Asia. Also billionaire Jim Rogers has moved to Singapore and said that China is going to grow. Do any of you feel that any of this is true? What I want to know is how will Asia do if the United States collapses economically?

A. First of all, the US economy is not going to collapse. It's not even clear we're in a recession. The great depression was exacerbated by a fledgling fed that did exactly the opposite of what they should have done. That is, they took liquidity out of the system rather than adding it. Regarding your question, a collapse of the largest economy in the world (we are four, some think five times larger than China in GDP) would send the entire world into a depression. Since we would presumably default on our treasury bonds, of which China and Japan hold the most in the world, countries who hold our bonds as foreign reserves would experience a crisis of liquidity. Also, their export markets would dry up overnight and there would be a run on their… [cont.]

How does the United States and or its people practice ethnocentrism?
Q. I need 3 examples of how the united states and or americans practice ethnocentrism...I am having a tough time figuring out what to write about... For anyone who doesn't know..Ethnocentrism is the assumption that one's own culture and way of life is superior to others...like americas ways of doing things is the best way.
Asked by Ell1989 - Thu Sep 10 21:44:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ethnocentrism doesn't just mean that you feel that your identity is superior, but you use your view to view other cultures. Example: In South East Asian, most countries eat dogs. To them this is normal and because South East Asia is extremely poor they are accustomed to this. For Americans, we don't need to eat dogs because we have cattle, etc so we view dog eating as culturally unacceptable. We're using our biases to view South East Asia. Other examples could include how we go to war, democracy being better than socialism or communism, gun rights (many Asian countries don't have gun rights), stricter drug laws, and other foods.

A. hello. the United States used the Atom Bomb, a weapon they were unsure would succeed. They knew how ferocious the Japanese were at ground fighting. (see Guadalcanall, the entire Island hopping they'd already done). Operation whatever would been a very bloody event. The ugly success of the Atom Bomb was almost a blessing.

A. Yes, if you mean a government that has sworn to try to destroy the western way of life. It's the humane approach! Let me try to explain what happens if we don't reserve military force as a last resort. Let's say Ahmadinejad manages to enrich uranium to the level necessary for a bomb and then sells some of the enriched product to ??? The bin Ladin crowd for example. Maybe they would be successful in structuring a bomb and detonating it in Boston, killing 600,000+ people and leveling the city. Each reactor has a measurable signature that can be tracked through it's product. It would be very easy for the US to figure out where the plutonium was produced... Iran in this example. Just how do you think the USA would react to that? (Final… [cont.]

Should the United States government require citizens and private industry to further "green up" or else?
Q. According to the National Geographic article "After Oil; Powering the Future", sweeping change in energy conservation won't happen until our government mandates it. Some mandates exist at federal and state levels but most are minimal and many are meant to appease environmentalist without interfering with "dirty energy" profits. Should the United States government require citizens and private industry to further "green up" or else?
Asked by Educator1 - Tue Sep 15 06:44:44 2009 - - 3 Answers - 3 Comments

A. The USA is already the greenest nation on earth. Do you know that the air coming into California from the Pacific is why the state can never meet the EPA clean air standards. The air leaving the US for Europe is cleaner than that leaving Europe for Asia. So the US is already walking the walk and per capita is the lowest polluting nation on the face oft the earth. It should be when is the rest of the world going to catch up. If we could replace every coal fired power plant with nuclear plants we would be below even the strictest air quality standards. You can thank your local environmentalist green freaks and their energy company funded pogrom against nuclear power for the small amount of pollution we still have.
