When I vote, I expect it to be anonymous. How does a vote be thrown out because of a problem with a signature?
Q. How do they know which ones to toss, and why are ANY votes tossed out? If we take the time to vote, our votes should count.
Asked by imgram - Mon Jun 22 14:07:13 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When you mail in a ballot you sign an outer envelope to certify that you have the right to vote in the election, have not voted any other ballots for the election etc. This signature is checked before the envelope is opened. If the signature does not appear to be valid the vote is held (still sealed) until it can be verified or not. Once the signature is verified the envelope is opened and the ballot (which does not contain any information to link the vote to you) is opened. In some states they even have the ballot in a second envelope with in the first so that the person opening the first envelope can not possibly see the votes cast on the ballot.
