A. Steve is right, but you can just as easily look it up yourself. Go to google and type in the name of the compound and it should definitely come up. (Easier method, if you're willing to take the incredibly small risk that someone edits chemical formulas on wikipedia for fun?): Just go on wikipedia and type the name in..you can find most compounds by doing that ;) Hope that helps for future reference!

A. umm basically find the charge of the ion that the element always creates. ex. for the first one aluminum is always +3 and bromine is alwasy -1, so it would be AlBr3 and you keep doing that for the rest of them. just remember that (III) and stuff means that it's a + whaterver that number is. (II) is +2 so it is: AlBr3 (Al+3, Br-1) (NH4)2S (NH4+ , S2-) AlNO3 (Al+3, NO3-) Al2O3 (Al+3, O2-) FeCl3 (Fe+3, Cl-) Na2O (Na+, O2-) Fe2(SO4)3 (Fe+3, SO4 2-) Na3P (Na+,P3-) K2SO4 (K+,SO4 2-) MgC2O4 (Mg+2 , C2O4 2-) Fe3(PO4)2 (Fe+2 , PO4 3-) the parenthesis have the charges of the ions.

A. Use the names of the polyatomic ions as you learned them without modification unless it is an acid: NH4NO3 ---> NH4+ is Ammonium and NO3- is Nitrate Ammonium Nitrate BeSO4 ---> Be+2 is a fixed charge element, SO4^-2 is Sulfate Beryllium Sulfate There is no changing of the charge, you just balance the elements so that the positive charge equals the negative charge. Aluminum Hydroxide --> Aluminum is +3, Hydroxide is OH- The chemical formula must be neutral, so we need 3 of the hydroxides to balance out the +3 on the Al: Al(OH)3 ---> For polyatomic ions, use parentheses when more than 1 are present Cesium Phosphate ---> Cs is +1 and Phosphate is PO4^-3 You will need 3 Cs to balance the -3 in Phosphate: Cs3PO4 When you have… [cont.]
